Re:They're just doing this now???
Government for the Idiots, by the Idiots, and of the Idiots.
Whether 9/10s of what Wolff writes in his book is invention and exaggeration, the fact a guy with his long-established reputation was walking around the White House just baffles me. What the fuck is wrong with Trump's people? Are they all fucking idiots? At every turn, this is an Administration seemingly hell bent on fucking itself over.
Um, you've been watching this administration for the past year or so, right? I'd say the answer is obvious. These people didn't even know they had to hire their own White House staff. https://www.washingtonpost.com... They are completely and profoundly unprepared to do this job.

Good news for the rest of us?
From TFS:
The people who have left were responsible for collecting and analyzing the intelligence that goes into the president's daily briefing.
Daily intelligence briefings for the Chief Executive used to be a vitally important component of policy formulation. Then President Chump was sworn in, and suddenly they became completely irrelevant, because they bored him. He refuses to read or even listen to them, even when they mostly contain brightly-colored graphics, videos, and other visual elements designed to appeal to the functional-illiterate-in-chief. They've also been tailored to avoid topics, such as the latest intelligence on Russian psyops interference in the 2016 election, that push the Orange Oaf's buttons. (Let me point you to an alternative citation, because the Washington Post article may be paywalled for those who don't know how to use private browsing and cookie deletion to get around it.)
Think about how you'd feel if you had dedicated your career to producing detailed, highly-nuanced, daily reports on a whole range of intelligence topics for the most powerful national leader on the planet - only to discover that the new guy is completely uninterested in any information that can't be expressed in crayon drawings and bumper sticker catchphrases. Now throw in civil servant wages, and ask yourself whether that job would be in any way attractive to you?
Yeah - it's like that.
That's why they're leaving

When you have the WAPO of all places saying that Antifa are just as bad as nazi's, you're in the wrong fucking neighborhood of support.
Oh and you want an example of Antifa killing americans? This one will do just fine. 26 dead at a church. Self-identified as a "UAF" that's "united against facsism" was a hardcore leftist who hated christians, and a extreme atheist to boot. UAF is a splinter of antifa.

Re:REAP YOUR TAX CUTS MY FELLOW AMERICANS!
Hmm, the NYT and The Atlantic don't like tax cuts. Democrats don't like tax cuts. I'm sure it's just a coincidence, and not that the NYT and Atlantic are only reporting things that fit the Democrat agenda.
And if you look at the study they cite they're talking about personal taxes, not corporate taxes.
The study I linked to found this
The results in column (3) show that, as expected, the coefficient of CIT rate is negative and statistically significant. The magnitude of the coefficient is, however, higher than what we obtain in column (2). The coefficients of the personal income and sales tax rates are still statistically insignificant. The coefficient of the interaction term between the sales tax rate and the RSTdummy is still negative but statistically insignificant.
I.e. lower corporate taxes mean higher growth 'the coefficient of CIT rate is negative and statistically significant' . Interestingly they can't tell if that's the case or not for personal and sales taxes because 'The coefficients of the personal income and sales tax rates are still statistically insignificant.'
This is why you need to look directly at economics research and not Google 'do tax cuts increase growth', and find an article on the NYT or Atlantic saying they don't. Clearly the sort of tax cut matters. You also need to read the whole paper, and not a summary by journalist who - in the US - is basically guaranteed to be left wing (only 7% of US journalist are Republicans), and given they all have liberal arts degrees, innumerate. All they're doing is Googling for some 'science' that backs their prejudices and then writing a long rant summarising it. Shit, even I could do that.

If I've said it once....
If I've said it once.... I've said it a hundred times.
Our technology is evolving faster than our species.
Suicides of teen girls in the USA are up due to cell phones and social media.
Cell phones are killing our necks.
In addition to carrying a personal tracking device, governments are using and abusing any and all technology to spy on citizens
The Sun could wipe out our power grid with a direct hit from a geomagnetic storm, and utilities aren't doing anything to mitigate the risks.
5 Countries are destroying the ocean with plastics and covering the earth with asbestos.
And let's not forget about the Doomsday clock and Nuclear Weapons. We still have a cold war posture that could end badly.
We have governments with cheap gene editing tools CRISPR/CAS9 working to make designer pets that glow in the dark and super biological weapons
Video Game Addiction is rampant
The Internet is a Pandora's box of garbage and porn, bad behavior are shaping your minds through YouTube and other video streaming sites.
The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. There will be a tipping point and this will lead to global unrest.
We can truly say it was the best of times, it was the worst of times. If we could all just grow up and use our technology for good, but we can't. Just like light and dark, yin and yang, the good of technology is always accompanied by the evil dark side.
My prediction for 2018 is that AI and machine learning are going to be applied to hacking. AI's will be trained to write code to exploit all things and the exploits will be endless. Humans won't even be able to understand the exploit code as the AI software churns them out. Further I predict human cloning will happen this year and that China/Russia/North Korea will test some pretty nasty hacks on Americas Banks, Stock Market, Telecommunications, and/or gas/electric/water. I also predict that US drug usage will continue to increase (opioids, weed, alcohol) and the life expectancy will continue to decrease and suicide rates will continue to increase. I also predict that based on an increased energy in the atmosphere that storms will continue to grow in intensity. I also predict there will be a war in North Korea due to an error in a rocket test hitting a US ally. Further I predict Russia will take over another ex-Russian republic and China will continue to flex it's military muscle.
7 billion people on the planet. Technology everywhere, and we still can't figure out to behave and share.
I was watching TV with a little child and she was horrified by the war videos on the news and she asked me, "Why is there war? Why are they fighting?"
My answer, "Because, Sharing is hard."
To all reading this, in 2018 do a better job of sharing, loving your neighbor, and using less plastic.
Happy New Year!

Re: What an asshole
That was a disgusting shooting, the guy basically was shot 10 rounds into a game of Simon Says. Swat teams need to consider that they are meant for shock and awe but trained and give instructions expecting calm and careful reasoning of subjects in front of them.
You can't reason with the police, they hire the bottom of the bottom of the barrel. The people that end up cops would do just fine in a criminal organization. In In the police they're paid less, but can kill citizens with impunity. What's not to like from their point of view ?
Not only that but even when fired, they're usually quickly re-hired someone else.

Re: It's a male, take him down!
police work isn't even in the top 10 of most dangerous professions
It's low on the list of overall risk but according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics law enforcement officers are the second most likely to be murdered on the job. Number one is taxi drivers.

Re:Uh... They are the same?
Warming and cooling of the earth is indeed not the problem. What is the problem is the speed of the change and it's correlation to the time after the industrial revolution. In case you don't trust this, see the info in this link, google a bit on non-US sites and you'll see who else agrees on this.
It seems to me that it is a bit strange that practically every other country agrees that climate change is a real problem. Certainly if you include the fact that some of them will have just as much economic loss as the US (e.g.: Western European countries) by admitting this.
About the correlation, I know that correlation does not imply causation, but I can't really think of something that causes both the industrial revolution and global warming...

Re:Just ask yourself one question.
Don't destroy ISIS
Obama did that, with his strategy of working with local forces. Trump just got to put his name at the bottom.
Don't give middle class workers a tax cut
That tax cut turns into a pumpkin in two years and will cost them more than they're saving.
Don't increase GDP over 3%, higher than Obama did any time over 8 years
Get back to us in another three years, let alone eight.
Don't prosecute illegals that kill Americans
Illegals do a minuscule percentage of the killing of Americans. Most of the ones with a really good body count come from Saudi Arabia, which Trump didn't put on his Muslim Ban List.
Don't protect VA whistle-blowers that are trying to help veterans
Don't worry, Trump wouldn't do that.
Don't bring back Americans jailed overseas, such as shoplifting basketball players
That's literally part of the president's job. Also, have you seen any of the evidence against those basketball players?
I don't think your advice is very good.
Who are you?

Re:Can't believe..
It is a bit misleading to call it an "Education Lottery". It would be more honest to call it a "Public School Lottery". At public schools they aren't going to give kids the math tools to understand why lotteries are a bad idea.
Offtopic but worth noting. North Carolina - and I'm sure several other states - use the same terminology. Its a marketing gimmick for the general public. While the funding does go towards public education - the relative level of public education funding remains the same. i.e.
No lottery: X per year in funding from taxes
With lottery: X*0.50 per year in funding from taxes + X*0.50 per year in funding from lottery.
*Tax money not allocated to X (public education) goes to Y and Z instead ... NOT education.
Overly simplistic model - but you get the idea. State law has to be strictly / expressly written to note the lottery provides additional funding to public education above/beyond the current levels, not just "funding". Sadly - there is no additional funding in most states for public education due to the lottery. This isn't a huge secret either - marketing does its job extremely well with the lottery: https://www.washingtonpost.com... -

Re:Heroes.
Whatever the purpose of their hack, glad that it interfered with the inauguration and likely helped protesters avoid prosecution. I'll drink to them tonight.
The black block rioted in full view of the TV cameras. Many trash cans were grievously assaulted.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Unfortunately these were government trashcans and you don't need to assault very many of them to be over the $5000 limit you need to get a felony riot conviction in DC. Even inciting other people to do more than $5000 property damage is enough
https://beta.code.dccouncil.us...
(d) If in the course and as a result of a riot a person suffers serious bodily harm or there is property damage in excess of $5,000, every person who willfully incited or urged others to engage in the riot shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than 10 years or a fine of not more than the amount set forth in Section 22-3571.01, or both.
So some of them are going to get ten years for felony rioting, sometime in 2018. They fought the trash cans, and the trash cans won.
https://www.washingtonpost.com...
Jury selection began Wednesday for the cases of the first defendants to face trial in the Inauguration Day riots in downtown Washington, with the judge quickly asking prospective jurors about their views.
"What I am asking you is whether anything you may have heard about that day would keep you from fairly and impartially deciding this case? What are your feelings about the president and Inauguration Day, and will those feelings keep you from fairly and impartially deciding on a case and viewing evidence?" D.C. Superior Court Judge Lynn Leibovitz asked the 70 panelists.
The six defendants, whose trial could begin as soon as Monday, are charged with felony rioting in the Jan. 20 disruption that left several businesses vandalized and resulted in thousands of dollars in damage.
In all, prosecutors charged 212 people in connection with the riots. So far, 20 have pleaded guilty and prosecutors dropped cases against another 20. Trials for the others, in groups of five or more, are set to occur almost monthly through mid-2018.
Prosecutors allege that a group called Disrupt J20 helped plan protests that pulled in participants from across the country. They said some rioters used "black bloc" tactics - wearing all black and hiding their faces with masks and goggles so it would be harder to identify them.
The first defendants to face trial are Michelle Macchio, 26, of Naples, Fla.; Jennifer Armento, 38, of Philadelphia; Christina Simmons, 20, of Cockeysville, Md.; Alexei Wood, 37, of San Antonio; Oliver Harris, 28, of Philadelphia; and Brittne Lawson, 27, of Pittsburgh.
The trial is expected to last through mid-December.
The six defendants face felony counts of inciting a riot and destruction of property, charges that carry a maximum penalty of 10 years each.
Interesting how most of them seem to come from red states - Florida, Philadelphia, Texas were all Red. Maryland was blue.

I think a lot of antifa/far left types are rebelling against their Republican voting parents, who I'm sure will be very sad when they end up with ten years in prison. It's a shame really, I bet their Mummies and Daddies are lovely people.

No citation needed for that one though?
No because everyone has the countless cycle of Democrats claiming there is a Russia collusion on the news.
I have helpfully provided many links for you as you appear too be too stupid to have ever followed the news, or to use Google. You poor bastard. Can't keep helping you though so you are on your own from here.

They didn't wave Nazi flags, but they did march and are the moral equivalent of Nazis. When you use violence and the threat of violence to shut down political speech and stop non-political annual events - you're no better than a Nazi.

Both sides?
The crime of selling 100k worth of ads, that promoted both sides ?
"Both sides"? What side do Russians have in the US election? Last I checked they were neither democrats nor republicans. They have no business being involved at all. If Facebook facilitated their actions then there is a good chance Facebook was complicit in attempted election rigging and quite possibly in violation of federal election laws.
Which statute does that break exactly ?
There are plenty of articles on this very topic.
If anything, the ads just served as confirmation bias to people on either side, and were used more to sow discord than to actually influence the election one way or another.
Russians buying ads is by definition an attempt to influence the election. You are making a distinction without a difference.

Re:I'd say this is good news
>"That The Facebook needs saving is encouraging news... that seems to indicate its popularity and influence is waning."
I have never been more proud of never having had a Facebook login. I really hope Facebook falls and burns. Although it could do some good things, the bad is really bad. From bullying and harassment to invasion of privacy, fake news, tracking, and manipulation, it is probably the world's largest and most dangerous cesspool.
I must close with my absolute favorite South Park link:

Re:Man, he used "Balkanisation" properly
So, you didn't actually investigate the mountain of evidence, you merely attempted to discredit the alternative media outlet that's shouting the truth. Jeez, do you work for the mainstream media or something? An extensive timeline of the corruption in the FBI, and how it affected the election.
Just a few days ago, FBI's top General Counsel James A. Baker, the man who leaked the "Piss Dossier" to Mother Jones (a far left magazine), is reassigned by FBI Director Wray. This is huge, huge. Is your news not reporting this? Maybe you're listening to fake news. Get out and listen to the alternative media. Here's a good starting point for you, he's a leftist just like you, you'll agree with a lot of what he says. Start clicking on the related videos it'll start showing you and follow where they lead. Good luck! I envy the intellectual journey of enlightenment you're about to embark on.

True.
Maybe Trump doesn't want people remember all the lies, so he doesn't want his Twitter comments saved.

Re: Paid prioritization controls the national netw
Even if all ISPs are completely patriotic, it's hard to distinguish foreign interference from grassroots movement. You only need to look at a few recent examples, e.g. Heart of Texas. Before ISPs and Facebook realize that they have been foreign sponsored, it would have been too late after the damage is done.
And seeing how the ISPs are able to lobby the government to abolish net neutrality, they now have enough monopoly and power so that they don't have to pretend to be patriotic anymore. In many municipalities, the telecom companies have exclusive access to the utility poles so even Google Fiber can't build new Internet access. Let alone common folks like you and me. And Municipal Internet is just not happening. Here is the list of states with conditional or total ban, or minefield in their laws.
I still want to know how you got your Internet. You seem ingenuously optimistic.

Re:Those who were there vs those who were not
The home ownership rate is higher today than in 1967.
Median home prices are about the same today as they were in 1967 after you adjust for inflation.
Mortgage interest rates are lower today than in 1967.
Median income is up for all quintiles since 1967 after adjusting for inflation, even the bottom two. Meaning the home price to income ratio has fallen since 1967 (you need to use a smaller percentage of your income to afford a home).
I'm sorry for your situation, but you are an outlier. Not representative of the norm. Home ownership is easier today than in 1967.
If you want to know why you Millenials are having a hard time buying a home, the answer is really simple. The savings rate has fallen from 12% in 1967 to about 6% today. Basically, you spent all your money instead of saving it. Contrast this to, say, the UK - where the savings rate has actually gone up since the 1970s. It's not all bad news though. Young people began saving more beginning about a decade ago. Unfortunately, you actually had a negative savings rate from about 1995-2007 (you were spending more than you made). So combine your higher savings rate with paying off your accumulated debt, and you can't afford to rent an apartment so you end up living in your parents' basement. -
Re:Evan Greer lives in a fantasy
Sorry, Scentcone, but the requirement was:
Please name one elected official that "paid for" their action or inaction on any of the following issues...
You only named two politicians, but Nancy Pelosi is still in the House, as minority leader(a position which gives her no real consequences to the failed actions of the majority party), and received almost 80% of the vote in the most recent election, and hasn't really "paid for" it with any substantial opposition developing, while Hillary Clinton received a 3 million popular vote lead in the most recent election, and only lost due to the Electoral College, not to any particular opposition from the people.
You'd have done better to find Democrats who lost election in 2010, or even 2012, rather than focus on the two that make for the worst examples for you. And even then, you'd have to prove they really lost because of the ACA. Even Scott Brown can't really make that claim, he was bounced right after. And Boehner? Got trounced because he wasn't a fanatic and lives with the stain of his predecessor's sexual perversions being exposed. Yay?
Then, of course, we got years more of the Republican's uncontrolled deficits and out-of-touch agenda, leading to what? A technical victory with no demonstrated accomplishments? Even their tax plan makes them look bad. How do you lose by cutting taxes? Huh.
Your conjecture over the attempted repeal doesn't even give names, just asserts an outcome, which also applies to your blathering on immigration reform. We've had almost a decade on the former, and yet you can't produce a single name, and the latter goes even further back, and still nothing. You know you were asked for something real.
But you've got nothing.
PS, actually, it was Trump who appointed a person without a lengthy judicial background. Not to mention other nominees without experience.
It appears your command of the facts happens to be insufficient. You're confused about appointments and political consequences, and are not apparently aware that your conjecture was already rejected and substance demanded.

I'm sick of this narrative
We are inundated with political ads all the time. We don't always know who paid for them directly or indirectly or why.
When Obama was running they accepted untraceable contributions and no doubt used them to run ads.

Re:Even worse for some European countries...
Oh sorry, cold fjord, that is not supporting the claim above:
Most immigrants end up costing the government more a lot more in services than they ever pay in taxes.
Note the immigrants part does not mention legality or not, therefore, you'd have to factor in both. Except your report does not even attempt to reflect all immigration, so it is not even necessary to point out the flaws in it, because well, you neglected to address the issue of immigration in the entirety at all.
Ooops! Your bad there. You needed to consider net immigration.
Sorry, but those numbers work out differently regardless.

Re:Kim's securing Bitcoin to subvert embargoes
A GDP chart, from 2015. Really? That's nice... Since you can't see me, I have a really annoyed look on my face. I have to wonder if you're just an idiot, trolling or just plain clueless with that chart. Probably trolling. Here's a clue, it's useless to what we're discussing. Unless you believe Trump somehow had something to do with the GDP at least two years before he was even elected president (since you appear to be math challenged, it's a 2015 chart, meaning it's from at least the previous year and Trump was elected in 2016, became Pres in 2017, so that's at least two years).
Since I'm sure a guy like you can't believe anything unless it's from the NY Times or WashPo, Here you go with a real article:
https://www.washingtonpost.com...However any comparison to Obummer or anyone else for that matter is really premature. Yet I know they can't stand waiting. A footnote to the Obama administration is they changed how they figured the GDP so he wouldn't look so bad. Something a lot of people missed.
So you're hung up on GDP? How about black people back to work - https://data.bls.gov/timeserie... . So much for him being a racist. Is there a measure that is your favorite? Don't go looking for one, it's likely a fools errand. I don't think you'll find one.
Given the tax restructure rates just passed today, the largest in 30 years, this will be like rocket fuel for the economy. Money should return to the states, people will work again. America will be great again. If we had Hillary, we'd be headed for Venezuela. Where they're eating their zoo animals to survive now. Socialism never works, wherever it's tried. So only really stupid people support it over Capitalism. Might not be perfect, however it's the best man has come up with.

Better explanation
Translation: Doctors get a kickback from prescribing a vitamin. Clueless patients fill the prescription and send it to their insurance. Everybody loses except doctors and drug companies.
Here is a less cynical and probably more accurate version
Over The Counter vitamins are an almost completely unregulated market (congress specifically forbade the FDA from regulating vitamins) and it's been demonstrated that major retailers are selling fakes. So if you are a doctor and it's important to ensure a patient get the proper dosage of that vitamin, what other options do you have?
Translation: FDA approved vitamins that other vitamin manufacturers either cant get approval for or have to spend a fortune to get.
The FDA is forbidden from regulating vitamins. The only power the FDA has is to limit the sale of a product it finds to be unsafe.

Re: Retirement?

Re: Our ISP's best buddy
Not actually true. Any regulation can be undone without any justification given, that's pretty much the point of a regulation. Unless it's a regulation with regards to law, in which case it's a different beast.
I don't understand this. All regulations are with regards to the law that granted the agency the authority to enact regulations for the purpose of enforcing the law.
And if an agency can change regulations whenever it wants, how did a court block the EPA from delaying the implementation of a regulation? -
Re:Who do we call?
You're being hysterical, making a mountain out of a molehill.
The cops get safer every year, but the cops kill more of us every year, while simultaneously claiming that there is a "war on cops" going on. It may not be a mountain yet, but it's well past molehill.
From the link at my previous response, it seems that the cops killed 64 unarmed people for all of 2017 (all ages).
64 out of 300m is very much a molehill - it's not even a rounding error.
Look, I'm as wary of armed men standing around with not much to do as the next person. I'm of the opinion that all interactions with the police should be recorded. I believe that the job attracts bullies, and that the cops close ranks to protect their own. I refuse to answer affirmative when asked "May we enter your house" and "Can we search your car"...
But, 64 killings out of 300m is literally statistical noise, especially considering that these people are in public all day, everyday, armed as well. We can't even plot those numbers on a chart that includes other unlikely causes of death in the US, such as falling down (11,500 last I checked).
Getting killed by cop is exceptionally unlikely. You are 180 times more likely to die by tripping over your own feet than by death by cop.
-
Re:Who do we call?
When the cops ARE the danger?
How often does that happen? What's the odds that a citizen will die at the hands of a police officer? According to this source, 937 people were killed by police officers in 2017.
The odds of the cops being a danger to you are miniscule, and those odds drop further if you aren't engaged in a violent crime.
You're being hysterical, making a mountain out of a molehill.

How does giving people more money screw them?
If you look at the chart of who gets larger refunds, you'll see an awful lot of green. The only people who pay more are the very rich (didn't all of you want them to pay more??) plus some kind of unicorn group of poor people who make below 40k/year but have more than 40% deductions (who is that anyway? Curious who that would be).
From a merely tactical point go view I think it's a really bad idea for all you liberals to scream so loudly about how unfair this is when the only people really hurt are people who own $1 million+ in real estate. I mean, anyone can plainly see that so don't you think THEY will think you are insane for screaming about what turns out to be totally fake news? When the jobs start flowing because companies have so much more money to spend, do you seriously think people will be mad about that?

Fanboi or clueless?
However, I've never really had anybody defend that position with actual quotes, taken in context about some topic that's actually material to the governing of the country.
Then you haven't bothered to look. 20 seconds on google would get you endless lists of his lies documented and refuted or explained. Serious news organization are keeping track of them.
I get that he's abrasive and spouts off stuff of questionable sources at times, but I don't see him as the kind that just lies to hear himself speak, or lies for political advantage like some from the other side of the isle have in the past.
Then you are truly a clueless idiot.
"Tapped my wires" tweet which was widely condemned as a lie but was pretty much true looking back on what we know now.
I don't know where you get your information but it was a lie then and it is a lie now. There is no evidence for this claim.

First Amendment Issue
I am not at ALL sure the "Trump Administration" (whatever that LEGALLY means!) can actually "Ban" (whatever THAT means!) a Government Agency from the exercise of Free Speech.
For example, certain Protections, such as Copyright, do not apply to the Government. Afterall, just WHO is the Government going to enforce that Copyright AGAINST?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
But, apparently, Federal Agencies, like the CDC, do NOT have First Amendment rights against the Federal Government:

Oh well, it was worth a try...

Re: There is no housing shortgage
Except that where it's allowed to work, it usually works really well. The only thing pushing back against it are entrenched lefty entities like teachers union bosses and the city/county councils with which they have an ugly little symbiotic relationship at the expense of students and their families.
Except for the religious agenda being promulgated that seems to be all too common. Not to mention the profiteering.
Sorry ScentCone, I get it, your dogma requires you to recite the shibboleth. Same as the testing agenda and your exhortations against Common Core.
Maybe if you tell more absurd lies, you'll get a prize too.
