Re:Let's just make solar illegal to import!
I have solar....my house is ~100% solar powered, but I really don't think oil companies are worried about a few solar panels.
Really? Then explain Florida in 150 words or less. Go!

Oddly, why didn't you suggest a story on how Taxi drives are on strike right now at this very moment over Uber, which you mysteriously, inexplicably failed to mention! http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/84e1... https://www.bostonglobe.com/bu... http://algarvedailynews.com/ne... http://www.chicagobusiness.com... http://www.cbsnews.com/picture... http://www.abc.net.au/news/201... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/new... http://www.theguardian.com/tec... https://euobserver.com/connect... http://www.wftv.com/videos/new... http://in-cyprus.com/nicosia-t...

Re:Some of these are overreaction
it should be legally obvious that you can't be arrested *only* for "resisting arrest"
Logically, that makes complete sense. However, police officers and District Attorneys, and the legal system in general, do not operate on a purely logical basis.
"Resisting arrest" should probably be renamed "Contempt of Cop"

Re:Whole Trial is bullshit
Your view about "insurmountable barriers" is interesting. Sometimes one's political views form the basis for that, and no amount of evidence helps.
Here you go, knock yourself out. The police call transcript and map are helpful, as is various aspects of the other material.

Re:WTF?The cop doesn't need to rely on his memory, he can just plant drugs he took from someone else. You can bet your life that this happens to someone, somewhere, on a daily basis (one of many examples).
I wonder - would you accept 3 months in jail with breath mints being the only evidence? Is that close enough? (link)
They can also force a catheter up your penis without evidence. (Well, they can taser you if you don't let them.) Dontcha think that stings a bit? (link)
Or they could just charge you with conspiracy. You can be jailed for years with no evidence for conspiracy, because the sentence (at least in my state) is exactly the same as if you really possessed the drugs. So even if you've never possessed drugs, merely talking about it on the phone carries the same sentence as possessing the same amount. The added bonus is the prosecution now needs no evidence of actual drugs to convict! Open and shut case if you have a phone recording.
While the original poster was possibly engaging in hyperbole - I don't find it quite so objectionally out of realstic bounds. A case could pop up where that is what happened. It would probably require other factors to aggravate the situation (i.e. somebody schtupping a cop's wife), but it's not unimaginable to me.

Re:Ethics aside... How?
According to this news piece, http://www.wftv.com/news/25798994/detail.html, the instructor used exam questions supplied by the publisher. Apparently, the test bank the instructor was drawing the questions from had been released into the wild and some of the students found copies online.

Re:Does that mean it can run on BIOdiesel?
Here in Florida, they just put electronic speed limit signs on I-4. They intend to lower the speed limit gradually from 65 to 35 during rush hour. I think they're saying that it will reduce the 'slinky' effect.

Re:"oblivious..."
Here is one example: http://www.wftv.com/news/15215683/detail.html Man Pleads Guilty, Gets No Jail Time For Friend's Drunk Driving Death POSTED: 5:16 pm EST February 4, 2008 ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 22-year-old man pled guilty Monday for a drunk driving accident that left his friend dead, but the man walked out of the Orange County courthouse without serving one day in jail. Both the driver, Brent Lewis, who was 20 years old at the time, and his passenger, 20-year-old Nick Fisher, were drunk. The accident happened at University and Goldenrod in April 2006. "Brent is going to decide his fate. Either he is going to make a difference in life and he is going to do everything he is supposed to and, if he doesn't, he is going to end up in jail anyway. So, it's really up to him," said Teresa Fisher, the victim's mother. Lewis will lose his license for 12 years, serve two years house arrest and ten years probation and he will have to undergo alcohol abuse treatment. Copyright 2008 by wftv.com. All rights reserved. Re:{citation needed}
I'm not the poster you're responding to but googling "12 year old girl school taser" got me an article about that incident, plus a broken link about the (six year old!) kid with broken glass mentioned above. Coincidentally, both incidents involved Miami police and were only a week apart.

Re:Now we can visit grammar sites
Well at lease their knot misusing apostrophe's or homonymns.
More seriously, and actually on-topic, with a liberal dose of commas, I'd like to say it's about fucking time! There is no way to physically harm anyone over the internet, short of selling them drugs or cigarettes or booze or something (and yes, I know cigarettes and booze ARE drugs). Your kid is far more likely to be molested by their coach or Priest*, or harmed by a babysitter than some random stranger, let alone a random stranger from the internet.
The "internet is dangerous!!!!" is like "We must give up our liberty because of teh terrorism!!!!" Do the math: less than 3,000 dead in America this century from Muslim terrorists, while there are half a million from heart attacks and another half million from cancer, and forty thousand from auto accidents every single year! I'd say that Homeland Security money would be better spent on a few guard rails, and maybe if we can outlaw smoking something that slows lung cancer we can outlaw something that causes it? Or at least legalize the one that slows it so the cigarette smokers can legally... oh hell, never mind. This is mainstream media, law and government we're talking about. Logic, reason, and sanity should have nothing to do with the debate.

Re:"war zone" rhetoric is so lame.
People are such cowards these days. It's NAUSEATING.
Out of curiosity, are you including or excluding yourself from that generalization? I find that lots of people on /. like to deride others for cowardice or other moral failings when, truth be told, they wouldn't act any better in similar circumstances.
This woman was not the subject of a harshly-worded argument or even a juvenile personal attack; people were posting Photoshopped images of her in sexually degrading situations, and posting graphic descriptions of violence, mutilation and rape. Maybe that's something you can just laugh off and ignore, but it's getting to the point where women can't even do that any more.
And if she does get assaulted or killed, the same type of people who are condemning her for being too weak to simply put up with it will be condemning her for not taking the threats seriously enough. It's a no-win situation for women and victim-blaming is an easy way to avoid having any empathy for the victim, or feel the need to press for change. -

Polishing Up A Mistake?
After NASA's new directore Michael Griffin recently called the space shuttle and space station "mistakes" I would bet that this story was cultered-up to soften his comments. From http://www.wftv.com/news/5032927/detail.html KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- There were stunning comments made Wednesday by NASA's new leader: Michael Griffin believes the space shuttle and the international space station programs were mistakes. Now, Space Coast workers are firing back. People at Kennedy Space Center were generally shocked to read what Griffin said. NASA's administrator has said before he believed the shuttle was flawed, but 14 people gave their lives to the shuttle program and other people who devoted their lives said Griffin went too far. "I saw that this morning and immediately spilled coffee all over myself," said Charles Mars. Mars spent years working on the planning and development of the space shuttle and the space station and when he read NASA's administrator called the programs a mistake, he took it personally. "You know, I get angry. I can't believe I was working on a mistake. Two mistakes, shuttle and the space station. No, not a mistake," Mars said.

Re:The controvers is...
Also, if possible, imagine you're seeing the movie for the first time. You haven't seen the trilogy. You didn't dress up like Han four Halloweens in a row. Hell, you haven't even seen an Indiana Jones movie yet, and as a 10-year-old, you surely didn't watch American Graffiti a few years earlier. You don't know Harrison Ford from a hole in the wall and you don't know Han is a great guy. He ices some ugly green dude minutes before he agrees to take Ben & Luke on a ride. We know something they don't. We worry for their safety in this lunatics hand's. Etc etc etc.
Jesus, I'm posting to SW:EP4 threads. Anything to take my mind off Ivan, I guess. -
It happened in FloridaThe school budgets didn't increase at all. The money coming in from gambling replaced taxpayer funds - it wasn't added to them.
Check out this article. Granted, it's an editorial piece, but it is pretty accurate.
Something the article doesn't say...for the couple of years after the lotto was instated, education was highly funded. Only afterwards were the original funds slowly siphoned away, so now instead of the lotto being used as an enhancement, it's pretty much replaced the original funding.
The children of Florida thank Governor Jeb Bush for his wisdom.

This is the second flight in the X-43A project. On June 2, 2001, the first X-43A vehicle was lost moments after release from the B-52. Following booster ignition, the vehicle deviated from its flight path and was deliberately destroyed. The mishap investigation concluded there was no single contributing factor, but the root cause of the problem was identified as the control system of the booster --NASA

Pope hosts break-dance party
Break-Dancers Perform For The Pope, Get His Blessing
VATICAN CITY -- In an unusual spectacle at the Vatican, Pope John Paul II presided Sunday over a performance of break-dancers who leaped, flipped and spun their bodies to beats from a tinny boom box.
The 83-year-old pontiff seemed to approve, waving his hand after each dancer completed a move, then applauding for the entire group. He watched the performance from a raised throne.
"For this creative hard work I bless you from my heart," he said.
During the show, one dancer -- part of a Polish group that helps poor and marginalized youths -- planted his head on the inlaid marble floor of the Vatican hall and spun to loud applause from his group and from Vatican officials. Another performer flung his body around in a series of spins and handstands.
"Artistic talent is a gift from God and whoever discovers it in himself has a certain obligation: to know that he cannot waste this talent, but must develop it," John Paul said.
Earlier Sunday, members of an Italian Catholic youth organization enthusiastically cheered the pope's weekly remarks in St. Peter's Square. A few were invited into his papal apartment and helped him release doves from his window.
The pope, who suffers numerous ailments but appeared relatively strong Sunday, called out to the other children cheering below his window.
"I love you all. I love you very much," he said.

RIAA Says It's Not After Small-Time DownloadersEDT August 19, 2003
Record labels don't want you to download music without paying for it. But they also say they don't want to throw people in jail just for snagging a song or two online.
The Recording Industry Association of America says it isn't going after small-time downloaders when it sues people who trade songs on the Internet. The industry group says it is interested in suing only those computer users who take part in what it calls "a substantial amount of copyrighted music." -
