I grew up with a copy of Horowitz and Hill, first edition, but there's a sizeable contingent of people who pull a Martin Prince about H & H (they are 'familiar with his work' so to speak). It's an excellent book for general coverage of practical electronics, but snobby EEs find it threatening (it empowers people who didn't have to take all the sucky classes they did, I presume)

Eagles around the world fight for our freedom
Eagles around the world are fighting for our freedom to keep the sky safe from Russian drones and ISIS drones. These drones are trying to hack our elections, scramble our GPS signals, and listen in on our cell phones. Would pepper spray even work on an eagle? Birds can't taste capsaicin; if anything, it's numbing to them.
It's interesting to see how territorial these birds are. You can find lots of videos on Youtube of them doing things like attacking ultralights and such. I think they're simply going to have to "eagleproof" their drones. Which unfortunately will make them need to be bigger (and more expensive) for a given-sized payload, since a greater chunk of the mass fraction will need to go into structure.

These attacks have been known for a while, and are not hard at all. All you need is a radio that is stronger than the GPS signal. It's been demonstrated multiple times at DEFCON, and there are youtube videos that show you how to do it with a hackrf radio (for example, if you want to move to a particular place while playing Pokemon Go).
Wikipedia suggests that Russia spoofs GPS whenever Putin is in the area. -

Second, when a business has a sign that says "No Shirt, No Service" they are NOT violating your rights. The reason they can't say "Race _x_ not served" is because the Business derives its permission (aka power) from the Government. It was some unnamed IBM engineer/product manager, back in the late 1980s, that dreamed it up and then worked on implementing it.
And IBM did what with the Simon? Nothing. Just like Xerox did nothing with Xerox PARC GUI, whereas Apple based the Macintosh on it.
Maybe Jobs' genius was sifting through tens of thousands of (then) worthless products and selecting the right product to improve, refine and give it that Apple magical design and UI. It takes talent to know what is a gem and what is a worthless stone.

The point stands though that this is incredibly wasteful
The idea is to eventually create the methane fuel via the Sabatier process which converts carbon dioxide and water into methane. This is a necessary capability to refuel on Mars. Using solar energy to power the fuel manufacturing process would essentially make this vehicle solar powered.
Most noxious emissions from combustion are due to:- A. Oxygen reacting with nitrogen from the atmosphere. Which isn't a problem since rockets don't use air, but instead carry their own oxidizer.
- B. Incomplete combustion. Which can be mitigated with careful engine development.
Once out of the earth's atmosphere, aerodynamic drag goes away. Which also might save some energy.

Linux is almost usable as a desktop right right now. The guy who ran the "linux sucks" presentations just had his last talk in 2017. Year after year, he'd bring up the same problems over and over, but eventually they did get fixed (albeit a lot later than promised). It's not as if every problem is currently fixed, but most have been and the few remaining have clear paths to being fixed. Or to put it another way, enough stuff has been fixed or almost fixed to no longer warrant further "linux sucks" presentations.
All that's really left is widespread integration of Wayland (and deprecation of xfree86, x.org), stable and high performance open source graphics drivers, game support.
While that's not that many things, those things are big and they are dealbreakers. I wouldn't recommend linux to a gamer now, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Free Speech from the American perspective isn't a universal perspective. It is unique to our circumstance and our history. The EU has Free Speech but the details are a little different and that is fine in principle.
And we tend to be a little bit less nipple-averse than the US.
Our concept of Free Speech vs Censorship doesn't in any way go nut whenever there's a little bit of flesh shown somewhere (*).
Nudity isn't a reason to kick-ban you from European media, because of "Think of the Children" and "OMG! Femal Anatomy ! Run for your lives !".Indeed, based on past history, each side of the Atlantic pond has a slightly different approach on the Free Speech vs Censorship scale.
We can quibble over the details of where the line on free speech should be but you have to address how you plan to control hate groups if you let their rhetoric flow freely.
There are also other very valid trends in Europe that try instead to instil a little bit of critical thinking when exposed to bullshit on internet.
(This specific youtube channel deals more about fakenews and conspiracy theories, but the general approach of teaching critical thinking is also applicable for anything else going on the internet).
So instead of blocking the rhetoric of hate groups, you try tackling the problem from the other side by making the people less receptive to the king of bullshit that goes online.(And by the way the channel names happens to have some unfortunate implication in the US, but in its native France it's just a quote from a known author)

The end of the Cold War is part of it, but to be honest the seeds were planted before that and the ball started rolling in the aftermath of Watergate. It was somewhere around the 1970s that a phase change happened.
Between the end of WW2 and the 70s, society was optimistic. The leader who got elected was the one who could give us the greatest vision. Science, technology, and the new economy would make everyone's lives better. Everyone would get a piece of the pie.
After that, society became pessimistic. Science was no longer the solution, it was now the great problem. It could actually destroy the world thanks to nuclear fallout or ecological disaster. No longer was the would-be leader's job to create a better and more equal society, it was to protect us from disaster (be it terrorists, illegal immigrants, cancer, or what have you). The leader who gets elected today is the one who can manufacture the worst nightmare that they will save you from.
When we gave up on utopia, dystopia became rampant.
Adam Curtis has done a number of documentaries exploring the idea that many of the thinkers and technocrats on all sides who were responsible for getting us to now (and, of course, those who were influenced by them) have constructed a world based on theories and frameworks which only work up to a point and fail to take into account the real world in all its complexity. The upshot is that most of our leaders are living in an elaborate constructed fantasy world populated not by people, but by over-simplified models of people like "conservatives" and "liberals", "good guys" and "bad guys", "Islam" and "the West", and homo economicus.
It sounds like a conspiracy theory, but it actually isn't. Conspiracy theorists believe that the shadowy forces are running the show. Curtis' point is that nobody is in charge, and we are actually governed by a tangled web of self-reinforcing fantasy, incompetence, wilful blindness, and sheer bloody-mindedness.
The Trap probably lays the argument out the best, although The Power of Nightmares may be worth watching first. HyperNormalization brings it up to the "fake news" era.
I want to stress that this is just one strand of thought, and it's not even close to the whole story. But it has a lot of explanatory power.
