Re:Technology moves forward
here is a guy with a Rover SD1 running a merlin engine but he struggles to get as much power out of it as he's not found a gearbox to really take advantage of the power https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

All for nothing, but the chicks are free?
808 hp in a country with 70-75-80(-85) mph speed limits,
What will happen with american built high power cars when - perhaps even by committing a crime - being pushed to the max speed? (breaking apart?)
Because its no such big deal to put much power into a car, the problem of aerodynamic lifting forces come into play interacting with shock absorbers.
The space between the street and your cars under-floor at high speed can make out the difference between driving and flying,
because more distance to the road = more air being pushed under the car = lifting your car off the ground. So a bump on the road can send you flying, and I don't think american highways are designed for speed like the german "Autobahn".

How It's Made . . .
. . . did a segment on Tesla a few years ago. Looked very laid back - not like this claim at all. No grease monkeys, clean uniforms (uh, maybe that's a clue it was staged?), and every was spotless.
Not the Dream Cars branch, but the regular How It's Made.

Re:The Quota Show
Hammering it home would have meant that they used every other episode to showcase how they're not as backwards as they "used to be" (read: as they are in the 1960s) and making a point about Uhura being black. Actually, I don't even remember a single occasion where her skin color became an issue in the show.
While her skin color/ethnicity might not have been an issue it was brought up in the show.
SULU: Iâ(TM)ll protect you, fair maiden!
UHURA: Sorry, neither.https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
KIRK: Lieutenant Uhura of communications.
TRELANE: Ah a Nubian prize. (he kisses her hand) Taken on one of your raids of conquest, no doubt, Captain.
KIRK: No doubt.UHURA (to crewmen) The door to my quarters still rattles when it opens. Would you stop by and see if you can do something about it? Thanks, Bobby. (Green changes into African crewman) Crewman, do I know you?
CREWMAN: In a way, ma'am. You were just thinking of someone like me. I'm guessing of course, but you do look a little lonely.
UHURA: I see. So naturally, when I'm lonely I think of you.
CREWMAN: Ina cuvanea mwanamke turee.
UHURA: Una kafeeri Hur. You're Swahili? You can't really say that about the more recent past, even in TNG we had to be lectured about how backwards humans were (read: are in the reality) and how lucky they are that they overcame it.
Aren't we backwards? and will we not be judged by our descendants like we judge our predecessors for their failings?
Take a hint. People don't like being lectured. It creates resistance.
You know what, all this anti-SJW stuff is basically a bunch of white guys complaining because having an african-american president and a woman running for said office "bothered" them on a subconsciously racist level.
Those guys may not be "actively" bigoted, but the changes in society over time bothered them on a subconsciously bigoted level. And other things also subconsciously bothered them.
more visible ethnic minorites in leading roles
more women in leading roles
women in leadership positions in business and politics
women criticizing developer stupidity in the medium that you subconsciously think of as "belonging to guys"
You get the picture. It's why the gamergaters often used "invaders" language in regards to women.
Heck, in this very discussion I've seen Meta-monkey claim that Star Trek is basically a guy thing... for goshsakes, Star Trek of all things. Well known for having a large fanbase of women since the 60's!

Re:Trump supporters still bitching about birth cer
As a point of interest, Trump supporters who comment on Scott Adams blog just this week were still bitching about Obama's "fake" birth certificate. How is that even rational any more? Even Trump himself when pinned down about it after winning the primary admitted Obama was born in the USA. But even if this certificate was faked, then we need to deal with the following.
1) Ted Cruz was born in Canada to one US citizen parent. How is that different to Obama being born in Kenya to one US citizen parent? Cruz was allowed to run for president. So even if Obama was born in Kenya, how does that disqualify him from being president? And if somebody is then going to argue that his mother gave up her US citizenship they have to prove it by providing US government records that show it happened.Easy. It's because of the magic (R) beside the name that makes it all different and allowed. If you have anything else, like a (D) or such, it's really bad. But having an (R) means you have a free pass.

Once again, government fails physics
The measure was introduced over fears a bomb could be concealed in a device.
There is already a bomb in the device. It's called a charged lithium-ion battery. Have you seen the energy density in one of those things?

Re:# Where Have All the Insects Gone?
Es gibt keine Maikäfer mehr (There are no may bugs left) – Reinhard Mey (1973)
Now and then old man Schlüter inspected my catch
He was a may bug expert and remembered
That the bugs used to be a plague, that even
Whoever caught the most got a reward
That the kids got leave from school for the may bug hunt
And he said he got some brilliant triumphs in his time
And the numbers he quoted deeply impressed me
So I walked home almost ashamed with my catch -

What about the world's deadliest joke?
You obviously couldn't have the joke documented in the copyright, unless you wanted sudden, violent comedy.
-
"Recipes" are a handy analogue here
Probably not. This feels similar to the copyright situation surrounding recipes.
You can't copyright a recipe. You can copyright a particular description of a recipe, which is why many recipes come with flowery descriptions and pretty pictures. Those can be copyrighted. But the thing itself, the list of instructions, cannot be.
By the same token, it'd be unsurprising if the courts found that particular wordings or diagrams can be copyrighted, but the joke itself -- the end product -- cannot be copyrighted.
Conan isn't a hack, he's genuinely funny (IMHO). This is probably coincidental. Somewhat related (from Zach Wiener): An Open Letter to Sarah Silverman

One word: sadness
You know you have screwed things up when you have to look at China and India, two countries that have long been considered backwards when it comes to using renewable sources of energy, for a brighter tomorrow. Kudos to China and India to realize the problem and starting to get their act together. I mean, c'mon, look at India and the problems it has and it is still doing something about it. So much about us being the superior.

Ah, this is the example I was really hoping to find: The Incredibles US trailer focuses on comedy, slapstick, and action while the trailer for "Mister Incredible" features much more of his family and a focus on Parr's attempt to balance home life, reintegration with society, and suppression of his old life.

Obligatory:Intel CPU Backdoor Report (May 5 2017)
The goal of this report is to make the existence of Intel CPU backdoors a common knowledge and provide information on backdoor removal.
What we know about Intel CPU backdoors so far:
TL;DR version
Your Intel CPU and Chipset is running a backdoor as we speak.
The backdoor hardware is inside the CPU/Bridge and the backdoor firmware (Intel Management Engine) is in the chipset flash memory.
30C3 Intel ME live hack:
@21m43s, keystrokes leaked from Intel ME above the OS, wireshark failed to detect packets.
[Video Link] 30C3: Persistent, Stealthy, Remote-controlled Dedicated Hardware Malware
[Quotes] Vortrag:
"DAGGER exploits Intel's Manageability Engine (ME), that executes firmware code such as Intel's Active Management Technology (iAMT), as well as its OOB network channel.""the ME provides a perfect environment for undetectable sensitive data leakage on behalf of the attacker. Our presentation consists of three parts. The first part addresses how to find valuable data in the main memory of the host. The second part exploits the ME's OOB network channel to exfiltrate captured data to an external platform and to inject new attack code to target other interesting data structures available in the host runtime memory. The last part deals with the implementation of a covert network channel based on JitterBug."
"We have recently improved DAGGER's capabilites to include support for 64-bit operating systems and a stealthy update mechanism to download new attack code."
"To be more precise, we show how to conduct a DMA attack using Intel's Manageability Engine (ME)."
"We can permanently monitor the keyboard buffer on both operating system targets."
Backdoor removal:
The backdoor firmware can be removed by following this guide using the me_cleaner script.
Removal requires a Raspberry Pi (with GPIO pins) and a SOIC clip.Decoding Intel backdoors:
The situation is out of control and the Libreboot/Coreboot community is looking for BIOS/Firmware experts to help with the Intel ME decoding effort. If you are skilled in these areas, download Intel ME firmwares from this collection and have a go at them, beware Intel is using a lot of counter measures to prevent their backdoors from being decoded (explained below).

Re:The worse part of a trailer...My oldest son is a trailer editor in Hollywood. It drives him crazy when the studios force him to promote the movies in certain ways. They'll often take his work and combine it with other trailer houses work to produce frankentrailers.
What I hear is that most, if not all, trailer editors are serious film geeks and would love to be able to do good work but the client always wins.
Here is a version of a trailer my son made on his own time and showed the client just to try and do something he could be proud of. The client loved it but then the client's marketing department made him tone it way back. It's not what he first wanted, but it's still pretty fun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Japanese trailers
This sounds like American film trailers are becoming more like Japanese film trailers. The trailers are often cut to tell much of the plot, and since there's more of a focus on the interests of Japanese women (as opposed to the obsession with American teen boys) they tend to add more emotion to the trailer itself. This is maybe most stark in the trailers for animated films which have a long history in Japan as adult fare, but are still often relegated to the animation ghetto in the USA.
Compare these two trailers for Inside Out. The American version focuses on slackstick humor, while the Japanese trailer kicks you right in the feels and isn't afraid to spoil the plot.
Also, the Trailers Always Spoil trope from TV Tropes is always a good read on this.
