Re:History repeating itself
Just because AMD can work with game developers to optimize code for the CPU does not necessarily mean that the game developers want to, or can even afford to, optimize their code for two different platforms.
That won't be necessary. For every game house now, Vulkan is a top priority. Invented by AMD, it works best on everything but especially, AMD.

Re:Use the Crosswalk!
Hire a few extra cops to patrol the sidewalks, start citing pedestrians for J walking and crossing outside a crosswalk, with an egregiously heavy fine.
Those pedestrian deaths wouldn't occur if the cars weren't there. Because of that and because cases of drivers violating the pedestrian's right of way [are] more common than pedestrians violating that of drivers, maybe the cops should do a better job of citing drivers who blast through crosswalks.
Also, did you know that some crosswalks are unmarked? So what may look like a person jaywalking is actually someone crossing perfectly legally.

Re: Sounds like it's working as intended.
Social Security works by the government creating money and giving it to people. As long as the resources that people want to buy with that money are available the model will endure.
Greenspan kind of lays it out here.

Re:It's just a game
The real problem here is the idea that save files are copyrighted to the developers, so you don't actually own your saves. Thus, you have no right to backup your data.
Also, take a look at this: Nintendo EULA Forced Update. If your console knows an system update is available, it will lock you out of the system until you perform the update (which is different than other consoles that will simply lock you out of new content until you update). Given how many people in the comments don't think it's a big deal the company holds a gun to your head, is it any surprise that they can get away with this?

That is not what the bill does (read it here). [...]Nothing to see here.
What can be seen is “(5) The Administrator shall carry out this subsection in a manner that does not exceed $1,000,000 per fiscal year, to be derived from amounts otherwise authorized to be appropriated." In words, that is One Million Dollars, or, with overheads, maybe around 5 qualified employees. How much vetting of science and handling of NDAs do you think 5 people can do? Assuming you get someone qualified for such a mind-numbing job...

Totally. See the Werner Herzog Documentary.
I second that.
Just yesterday I nearly got run over on my bike by some SUV driver who was texting/dialing while driving.
Smartphones and texting while driving kill people. The problem is so obvious, that carriers had renowned filmmaker Werner Herzog do a freely available documentary on the problem a few years back to keep people from doing this ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?...Watch it and tell your friends to do that too. It's a must.

Re:History repeating itself
Certain improvements could involve simply compiler updates. Apparently, Ryzen could be better than Intel's Bridgelakes in decoding complex instructions, which is something that contemporary compilers are unlikely to emit due to Intel's dominance.

Re:Dilemma Solution
This is not right way to decrease the population, there is a good chance that war will increase breeding rates and have the opposite effect of your stated desired outcome. Besides, we are already heading to a stable population.

Probably the only other factor to worry about would be global warming, and it seems that nuclear energy would be the solution to this.

Re:A gimmick by pseudo-scientists
But we already know another blatant mistake of the governments, which has lead to the explosion of the obesity epidemics and millions of premature deaths — the War on Fat. And on cholesterol — though manufacturers are still marketing "low cholesterol" foods, the government's current stance is Cholesterol is not a nutrient of concern for overconsumption...
I'm with you so far.
Though Americans — and other nations following America's lead — grew obese, no one was punished for that mistake.
Umm, maybe. Who do you think should be punished? The scientists? They were saying at the beginning of the War on Fat that the science was inconclusive. It was the politicians who said, "We don't have time to wait for facts. We need to act."
Without any accountability for the FDA personnel even when the fault is obvious, what is there to restraint the EPA? What "checks and balances" are there to prevent them from banning anything another "charismatic and confident" doctor suggests to ban without much proof?
I see how you can get there. But as I said, the problem wasn't with the scientists. It was the politicians pushing the agenda, and the sugar industry funding it.
The "Trust Us" science is junk science — and Congress is absolutely right to fight it, even if they are too chicken to abolish the EPA altogether.
And that's where you go off the rails. In the case of fat, there was heavy industry lobbying in favor of a position that scientists said was unsupported by current research. We now know that it wasn't just unsupported; it was wrong.
In the case of environmental regulations, the industry money is all lining up to say we don't need to reduce fossil fuel use. And the vast majority of scientists are saying that the science is settled, and it goes against what industry is pushing.
But my biggest gripe with your solution is the suggestion that if the EPA isn't perfect, the solution is not to fix it but to abolish it. That's a common solution for certain advocacy groups (and political parties) who know that it's a lot easier to destroy programs that benefit society than it is to build them.

That's a temporary problem. Roughly 1 decade of your life (as much as 2 if you have multiple kids, 3 if you get nutty about it). I know that probably sounds like a long time right now, but it does end and life goes on. It won't be like this for long.

Need better cellars
There is something to be said for the way copyright manages to keep some popular collections alive and well-tended, rather than rotting away in a cellar.
What we need to do, is invent a new storage system which is better than cellars, combined with some kind of means whereby the public can access it.
I wonder if the electronics nerds could come up with something. I remember watching a Woody Allen movie called "Take the Money and Run" where Woody's character mentioned his aunt had some kind of special machine. Does anyone know if that was just science fiction, or was it based on a real thing?

Re:My how have the tables turned
>Looking back, was there anything your record label did that you couldn't have done yourself? The song was featured in a flim that had a wide release in many theaters. Our record label paid the recording costs -- it was done by some really good engineers and mixed by Tom Lord-Alge. I'm a decent engineer myself (ahem, self promo) but there's no way I could achieve that kind of sonic quality. And the promotion we received was worth a LOT. I could never afford that kind of promotion. >As for the losers on youtube ripping you off, it sucks that you're a little guy. The big guys have the resources to search and get YouTube to take that stuff down. You can track down and stop some guy in Cyprus from using your music, but he'll just go rip off some other small artists, he's not going away. I'm not saying you should accept the futility of it and do nothing, but that you may have to accept that what you have to do for yourself probably won't change things in the grand scheme.
I hope you'll acknowledge the impact the safe harbor provision has on little guys like me. Our label was a little guy too and has since folded as a functioning record label. I've filed a lot of DMCA notices. I can't put a song up on youtube without some bot scraping the audio and offering MP3 files for download. It's whack-a-mole from hell. If there was no safe harbor provision, I could sue a company (e.g., Youtube) that lets the cypriot asshole post my music and profit from it. Then, they might be motivated to help me profit from my music instead of criminals. I'm pretty sure you'd still get your music affordably. Removal of the safe harbor provision would not prevent you from making playlists of your favorite songs on youtube. I'd still put my music on youtube. It'd have no impact whatsoever on iTunes or Spotify or Rhapsody, etc. Safe harbor provision sucks IMHO. -
Re:Confluence of factors
In the past, people were only exposed to a handful of information sources, but now there are millions, all accessible at the click of a button.
No, in the past we had independent newspapers and radio/TV stations across the country. Then in the 90s we got media consolidation so that 5-6 major conglomerates own 90% of the media in the US. These conglomerates all have similar interests (hint: they're not the same as yours). Now all of a sudden we can do instant narrative checking and that's a big problem.

Re:Here's an idea
Some theaters are much better than others. Those that offer alcohol and real food often cater to adults who want to enjoy the movie experience. Some might kick out customers that are rude.

Re:"We're" loosing it?
I mean, how can you take any politician seriously when they openly advocate to let their own constituents die to save money?
What, you mean this guy that listens to (supposedly) regular joes? You wouldn't know that watching CNN because they mysteriously lost their connection the moment people started discussing their personal problems that came about because of the ACA.
Soon after Nancy Pelosi tweeted asking for people to share their Obamacare stories and the replies were mostly negative. Just because it improved things for some people doesn't mean it's a good thing if it's at the cost of the majority.
President Trump's claims of the imminent collapse of Obamacare might not be so far fetched when leaked documents claim that the Obama administration seized the profits of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, with the alleged intention of using it to fund Obamacare at the cost of fewer Americans becoming home owners.

Re:Don't lie! The government hates the competition
Journalists are professionals who are dedicated to finding and making public the truth.
No, sometimes CNN is just straight-up lying. You are an example of the problem I'm talking about.
Bias is inherent to humanity. Even just choosing what news is newsworthy is biased. So Breitbart goes nuts every time an illegal Mexican commits a crime and you say "well that's just right wing propaganda." But CNN goes nuts every time a cop shoots a black guy and you say "well that's important news!"
It's all propaganda. Breitbart is propaganda. CNN is propaganda. However, I think readers of Breitbart mostly understand they're reading right-wing propaganda. They're not trying to hide it. But people are watching CNN and thinking "these people are dedicated professionals just telling me The Truth (TM)." No they're not. They're selling you a narrative, too.
So this researcher is standing in the middle of lecture hall with the people on stage screaming lies through bullhorns and saying "hey, those 5 people over in the corner are whispering lies!" Yeah, sure, they are, they totally are. But what about the people on the stage? Isn't that kind of a problem, too? Maybe even a little bigger than the nutjobs in the corner?

Re:Double standard
I took the time to view some of the Full Footage. Some is really really long 5+ hours.
Short videos are highly edited and from what I heard in the longer videos... there was nothing damning.https://www.youtube.com/channe...
You could do the same but what I have found is that if you think PP is criminal you will hear criminality in the discourse.
If you do not, then you won't. Your beliefs will always tinge the watching of videos about abortion in some way.Multiple investigations did not find criminality. Fact checkers have found significant editing in a way to slant what has been said.
You will either look at that and say it is all wrong or not wrong based on your own beliefs.
"Is PP lying? I think it's likely"You seem to have formulated your opinion with no need for video of any kind.

Listen to Paul Anka and Lisa Simpson....
Really. Seriously. I have spent the last couple of years really cutting back on my news. I haven't watched the nightly news for 4 years. I only catch a little bit of TV news in the breakroom at work because its on. I check the BBC website on occasion. That's really about it. I ditched Instagram, I don't do Facebook.
You'd be surprised how much most of it really doesn't matter.
To paraphrase a great quote:
If you don't watch the news, you're uninformed. If you do watch the news, you're misinformed. -
Re:So 60 Minutes...
Luckily you can just go and look the videos up. You don't have to take anyones word for it.
But I have looked at a bunch of the full videos and they are very very long. 5 hours plus.
It will take some work on your part to do however to comb through it all.
The short videos are nothing like the long ones. The long ones are really really really long and boring for the most part.I will do the easy part for you
.... but you will have to do the rest.Center for medical Progress videos:

Windows 10 for ARM will succeed on mobile
Given the abysmal market share of Windows 10 Mobile
The big change that's coming though is that Windows 10 for ARM will have a Win32 x86 emulation layer. This will allow you to run unmodified Win32 applications on your ARM device. Neither Apple nor Google have any similar to offer. 2017 will see Microsoft start to succeed on mobile.

PTSD Cure Illegal
Not to diminish the importance of blocking memory formation (nice research), but most people do not care about those who suffer from PTSD.
We have a known cure for PTSD, combination MDMA psychotherapy, but it's currently illegal in most of the world because both the US FDA and DEA political hacks claim that no medical uses exist for the chemical (despite the DEA Court finding otherwise).
It's a clear case of government vs. science and the loser in the battle is the vulnerable population of patients with PTSD (and the rest of society by extension). Sadly, most of society supports those politicians over both science and the needs of the afflicted.

HTML5 killed Flash
The Apple fans will say Jobs and Apple did. But while Apple complained about Flash and threw temper tantrums over it, they never offered anything to replace it (at least not alone). HTML5 (along with Javascript and CSS) is what replaced Flash and kiled it.
The only reason Flash ever became a thing was because web designers were begging the W3C to add multimedia capability to the HTML spec. The W3C saw the web as a medium of information exchange (the way Berners-Lee originally envisioned it was a way for researchers to exchange journal articles they'd authored). They saw the requests for multimedia capability as the petty desires of advertisers and marketers. You see, photos and text you can scan and grok as quickly as you want in whatever screen format you want. Audio and video are limited to the speed and format that the creator sets. So the W3C saw adding multimedia capability to HTML as counter to the web's original design goal.
Then web designers discovered this little thing called Flash. It was an artist's tool for transmitting animation over slow Internet connections (here's a YouTube version if your browser doesn't support Flash anymore). Instead of retransmitting redundant information like video does, it transmits backgrounds, scalable vector graphics, and sprites just once, and lets you animate them with on the client side. That's all it was designed to do - help artists create animation. It was never designed to be a multimedia web platform.
But since the W3C refused to give web designers the hammer they asked for, the designers grabbed the closest thing they could find which resembled a hammer and started to hammer away with it. Flash began to be used for multimedia - animated websites, ads, and movies. That's why it was so full of security holes. The guys who wrote Flash never imagined it would become The Global Standard for creating multimedia websites. They thought they were just making a simple way for artists to create animation that could be transmitted over 56 kbps dialup lines, and didn't give any thought to security.
By the mid-2000s (long after the tech bubble), the problems with Flash were becoming clear. The W3C still refused to budge from their anti-multimedia stance, so the web browser developers themselves got together and began coordinating a way to add multimedia capability to HTML to help replace Flash. They came up with what eventually became HTML5 when the W3C finally relented. All this was going on years before Jobs wrote his "Thoughts on Flash" letter, but because those in the print media were widely ignorant of any of this, they mistakenly saw Jobs as the impetus behind the switchover. To repeat what I constantly seem to have to tell Apple fans, just because the first place you ever saw something was on an Apple product, does not mean Apple invented it. (Here's pinch to zoom in 1988!)
Outside of the whirlwind of controversy over web security, Flash continues to live on in its original intended design purpose, and rather successfully at that. -

Harder to counter Microsoft spying on you
According to "Barnacules Nerdgasm" on Youtube, who previously worked on Windows at Microsoft, people he know who are still inside have told him that "telemetry" (I.e. spying) will get harder to disable in future updates. Whether all of these will be in this next update or in a future one is hard to say.
He commented to his own video with this:
I've been talking to a few 'insiders' at Microsoft that are also saying that many of the things like App Store and Telemetry are now being hard coded into key services like explorer.exe and critical system services that if stopped will crash the box immediately. The reason for this is obviously to prevent programs like anti-beacon from disabling these services. It's pretty obvious at this point that Microsoft wants the data at any cost and their cover story is bullshit. I'll update you guys when I know more or when the Windows releases are public that contain these changes and we'll do a video on how to create a network bridge between your system and the internet to prevent telemetry from working even with all the services on the box trying to make contact.ï

"If I work extra hours to get this crisis resolved, they will see how awesome I am, give me a raise, and give me more say over my development priorities."
This one.
I actually came to say essentially the same thing.
I went several years without a raise. I finally got a bonus one year. It was so small it was practically an insult. The CEO openly told us that we were lucky to even have jobs as he laid off our co-workers.
I can't tell you how much schadenfreude I feel now that they are under criminal investigation now.
One of the execs has been charged with "crimes against the financial system” in Brazil.
I'm kind of surprised it isn't getting more press but I guess most of the corruption was in South America rather than their American assets. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that the family who runs that company shares the name of a Cuban dictator that was in power before Castro. Really, I am sure it's just coincidence. Batista is a common enough name.
See Operation Car Wash and Operation Weak Flesh for more info. Who makes up these names?
Completely unrelated video: Car Wash
Dunno why, but I really appreciate that song even more now.

Re: Once again slurs against certain groups OK.
I'm not hiding behind anything, if I was I would go fully anonymous. There's a difference between hiding and privacy. I know you don't believe in privacy because you're a dickface nazi, but that's your problem.
In fact, because you hate privacy so much, you should wear a shirt that says in big letters "ban anonymous speech now", put the same on a big sign in front of your house, and every weekend go downtown and shout it out with a megaphone. That's exactly what you've called for in the past and you fundamentally believe in, so why not broadcast it to everybody? I'm sure other people will start calling you a dickface nazi as well if you don't keep that opinion to yourself when you're in public.
With all the shit you believe in, I'd wager more than one person has said this about you:

According to the aquarium directors he periodically rearranges all of articles in his tank to “suit his own taste better, much to the distress of his fellow tank inhabitants.” It is unclear if he actually prefers his home certain ways or if he’s just seeking attention. He has been known to juggle hermit crabs and to throw rocks against the glass walls and damaging them. But Otto’s greatest feat thus far concerned a bright spotlight that shone into his tank at night.
Apparently, Otto did not like the spotlight, so he hoisted himself out of the top of his cage and squirted water on it, causing a short circuit that killed the light and more. Said a spokesperson,”It was a serious matter because it shorted the electricity supply to the whole aquarium that threatened the lives of the other animals when water pumps ceased to work.” It took the directors three days to discern what had happened, and rather than turn off the light to appease Otto, they simply moved it higher so he couldn’t reach it. Nice guys. -
Re:Dear Funny Americans
Wheelbarrio, you seem to not be aware of the situation. We had to pass this ACA to find out what was in it (as Nancy Peleosi famously said) because it stood no chance of passing if people knew what was in it. In fact the whole driver behind it called us all stupid (and yes, even you as an Aussie - you're stupid too according to him) - http://thehill.com/policy/heal... , Hear the man himself - https://www.youtube.com/watch?... . "budget neutral" for 10 years, well here we are. Now it's broken and in flames. Bankrupt.
Here's the problem. In 2008 just before BHO took office we had a big bailout under GW Bush. That was in fact the last budget passed, I believe even to this day. We're on a continuing resolution meaning we stay with that same budget that has big money coming out of it year after year. The press is silent on all of this of course, or clueless. This is why we went from 7T debt under Bush to 21T under Obama. Where did all of this money go to? You can bet his friends. Friends that spent like no tomorrow to make sure Hillary was elected, and failed. Now they're really upset that they lost *TRILLIONS*. For sure, under the old course the US would be bankrupt in less than 2 years. We'd be nothing. No Navy, No nothing really. We'd be killing each other a lot I bet. Disease, starvation, millions would die. As it is, this can still happen unless he can stop the money burn. No way? Think Greece, only a LOT worse. I mean, a LOT LOT worse. The more of a hole you dig for yourself, eventually you'll have to get out of it and we have a really big hole.
Don't think you're safe down there. If the US falls, watch out. Everyone else in the world is at risk. In fact, you could probably kiss your butt goodbye. With the guns they took out of the country, Australia could be conquered easily. Japanese from WWII in this situation, you'd fall quickly. Europe will likely fall to the invading Mohammadhists that invaded Europe recently. Fleeing refugees? I saw mostly young men, mostly MILITARY type men. Very few women and children. They're ready and waiting to take over Europe.
Think I'm wrong? Think about it some, look at some videos of Europe. Check things out. Break into a cold sweat.

Youtube Censorship Algo?
Will that be open sourced too? The problem appears to be legacy media attacking the now dominant form of information by attacking the advertisers and revenue streams of those who earn a living from producing content. They're even demonetizing videos from the LBTGWhatever community and it's fantastic that they are finally starting to care about free speech, rather than shutting opposing points of view down.
What happened to "do no evil"? Fuck off pro-censorship Google!
