All the pissing, moaning and groaning by a few YouTube content creators makes for nice click bait video to drive their revenue streams for their videos. Wait a few months... They will find something else to piss, moan and groan about for another click bait video. It's not censorship, it's opportunism.

Indeed, such attempts to play up issues purely for the sake of cash-ins are quite disgusting.

well i noticed some of the more productive types who have actually gotten demonitized like philip difranco don't mind at all.

phil questions the "why" of his being cited as "not friendly for advertising" but he doesn't care because he doesn't suckle the teats of this fucked up advertising driven economic nightmare. when it comes down to it, phil sells merchandise and his popularity increases by word of mouth. he's not concerned because youtube has become his storefront, not his customer.

on the other hand plenty of really stupid "gamer" culture cretins are crying over losing their pacifiers. wah, wah, go get a job you stupid slackers. get the hell off my lawn and by the way, on your way out, get your fucking advertisements off my lawn, too, and take your entire security-compromising shit for brains pyramid scheme with you. fucking losers!

I recorded https://www.youtube.com/watch?... with VLC. The object is visible for 4 frames before the start of the explosion. At that point the bright X of light occurs. In frame 5 the object is directly over the exploding rocket. Then, it disappears! The explosion progresses for 4 more frames. Then ANOTHER object enters the video from the lower left. This object appears to go behind the fireball. It exits to the upper right and transits for about 15 frames. Weird! Has anyone seen a video from a different angle?

1. Gaping hole = large dent. You can't see through it, so it's not a hole.
2. Slammed into the back of the solar panel = wrong side. The picture shows the dent pushing from the front to the back of the panel, i.e.: the particle slammed into the front of the panel.

Those reports are incorrect. In this video you can see (a few minutes after the initial explosion) only the tower is left standing.
First explosion is the second stage. The first stage explodes right after that. A few seconds later you can see the payload fairing fall (it was held in place by the arms at the top of the tower), followed by the satellite exploding.

People complained about the bulk and weight of having a removable cover and another layer of hard plastic around the battery.

And besides, what are you talking about? Extra plastic? A non-removable battery is still covered by the phone case. There's no extra layer of hard plastic, just the small tabs or whatever mechanism keeps the cover attached.

I suspect Entrope is talking about the "hard plastic around the battery". A non-removable battery is covered by a thin, easily-punctured sheet of plastic, and that is then covered by the phone case. A removable battery is covered by a more substantial layer of plastic so it's more difficult to puncture or bend the actual battery inside--because that could be bad. And that is then covered by the phone case.

The explosion seems to originate between the gantry and upper stage from this view; certainly wasn't the main booster/return base bit (please excuse my terminology)

Good close-up footage here now at 1:12. Looks like explosion happened just below the payload, looks like a hose was hanging on the rocket there and it was venting some fumes and a spark ignited it for some reason. Certainly the engines and first stage weren't involved, second stage fueling for full payload test perhaps? It looks to be slightly off to the side of the rocket but if it starts internally or externally I can't tell. Pretty clearly a fueling accident though, not really related to the rocket's operation as such.

The whole point is that their life should be more like airplanes than the rockets you're thinking of.

Indeed, that they should be more like aeroplanes to be properly reusable, reduce maintenance and give the turnaround and profitability required to fulfil all those grand visions is a point I've made elsewhere. However, rockets are *not* aeroplanes as should now be readily apparent for anyone who didn't know before. Anyone who thinks they are or ever will be is just not thinking this through properly.

Never, really, but at least a few of them at least halfway knew what the people coming to slashdot might want to talk about. In fact, I get the impression that 'editing' slashdot might be these guys' first jobs, and that they got them because they are personal friends/employees of the new boss. I can't find much on the other 'editors', but BeauHD works for another BIZX company (phonedog) doing awful videos, which apparently makes him qualified to work for Slashdot somehow?

Broadwell was originally supposed to be released 2014Q3, but (aside from Core M) was delayed until 2015Q1 for mobile and 2015Q2 for desktop processors due to problems Intel had getting enough yield out of the 14nm process. It was delayed so long that most manufacturers (and Intel for some of their product lines) skipped it entirely and moved straight from Haswell to Skylake which came out 2015Q3.

Despite the extra year Intel has budgeted, I wouldn't count on 10nm being ready by the second half of 2017. We're getting really close to the atomic limits of die shrinking - 5-7 nm is probably the limit. As we get closer to that limit, quantum tunneling effects (basically atoms jumping from one place to another) cause all sorts of problems like power leakage. That was what led to the delays at 14nm (Intel) and 16nm (other fabs). It will probably be worse at 10nm.
