Metroidvania before Super Metroid
I was always a little under impressed by Super Metroid because I'd played WBIII and experienced that kind of exploration gameplay back on my Sega Master System. Heck, I still think it's the most underrated game of the 8bit era. I hope Monster Boy is still coming though. The blog's still active but it was basically a spiritual successor. I could go for 2 Wonderboy games myself but not sure if everybody can so I hope this anouncement doesn't hurt the other games sales. If you're reading this buy both

They basically do it anyways, by showing their Youtube imagery around the player, and the Youtube logo in the player itself.
Also, I think many content creators would welcome YT doing that, and offering services to pursue copyvios, Because of Rampant content theft by Facebook users, and the Freebooting problem.

Re:Bad arguments
Not part of the thread, but I'll chime in anyway. You said:
Each inflection point where the population growth rate increased was a point when prosperity suddenly increased. It's why population grows as food prices fall.
And that is quite obviously true, historically.
You also said:
Today, the average American family spends about 11% of our money on food and 3% on clothing.
Elsewhere, you've pointed out that it requires the labor of approximately 1% of the population to feed the rest, and this number has been dropping radically for 100 years. You've been making a pretty good case that the basis for the cost of anything, anywhere, is the cost of human labor. Now, there's such a thing as a strawberry picking machine. A prototype, but operational in fields today, not just a laboratory curiosity. We are rapidly approaching the point where it requires zero human labor to feed the entire population. 797 tonnes of wheat harvested in 8 hours takes 6 guys. Plus spectators. How long before those 6 drivers are no longer required? That leaves only the labor of the supply chain that builds and runs the equipment, which is also rapidly automating. When the last drop of labor is squeezed out of the food supply chain, does that result in unbounded population growth? A gigantic explosion of new people?
Your interlocutor has been trying to point out a new fact. Regardless of ongoing technological development, population is plateauing across the developed world. In Japan, the US, Canada, and most of Western Europe, native population growth is, in fact, a negative number. There is no growth. None. Without immigration, population in the US would be declining. Population in Japan IS declining. Japan hit the zero point more than a decade ago, in 2004, and has been negative every year since, with one lone (lonely?) exception. Attempts at explanation include the psychological as well as the economic, but regardless of the reason(s), it is happening.
So despite new CPUs, despite new combine harvesters, despite new berry-picking robots destined to reduce the cost of staple foods and luxury foods alike, population is only growing everywhere those technologies are not.
It seems history is no longer an adequate guide to economic and population expectations.

The former is a bucket of shit and the latter makes Skype and Whatsapp look like they were coded by 2 year olds after their first learn to code class.
I wouldn't be too hard on the WhatsApp engineers. They weren't allowed an afternoon nap after achieving 140 million concurrent connections before taking their first learn-to-code class.

Kids these days. All they want is time off for good behaviour.
Turning our heads 180 degrees, if you wanted to look like you'd taken your first learn to type properly class, you'd be writing "WhatsApp" instead of "Whatsapp" and "two-year-olds" instead of "two year olds". But no, you're from the school where noticing pre-existing paint on the road is considered optional.
Nice post. Profane, hyperbolic, vaguely illiterate, extolling a competence inversion in simple language that could have come straight from the mouth of Donald Trump if his followers were down on the meme that programming requires skill.
It's that last one that's going to keep you out of politics. Your methods are there, but you've got to go way down market to reach your intended audience. It's a lot harder than it looks. Down there, you don't have many sticks to rub together.
In one short, Lucy points out to him the woefully inadequate range of a toy piano; an angry Schroeder yanks it out from under her, causing her to conk her head on the floor. This became a frequent running gag in the strip's later years. Lucy once "accidentally" washed his piano and threw it in the dryer, thus having the piano shrink, leaving Schroeder horrified.

Re:Just glad I'm not an engineer there!
Then again, maybe that's the problem. All of the good engineers were "retired" after bad launches and now they're stuck with guys who have no experience in engineering and are struggling to make sense of the equations lest they be "retired" also.

Re:who did what, now?
It got a decent boost with Win7. Win8 was more or less underwhelming, but not disastrous. Now the current push for Win10 earns them reputation of some supervillain with a master plan.
I installed MS Win10 in a virtual machine a few hours ago and as an operating system, it is fine, as I would expect it to be.
Here are my observations.
1) The base OS installed from the ISO is about 9.4GB.
2) Very pretty although that is subjective and you like tiles, although it is possible to hide them.
3) Verry intrusive into your private use.
4) Loves to make is fairly difficult for the average user to change the security settings. Fortunately, there are private tools (be careful) that can fix that.
5) Please check out the following site . The presenter does not object to Win10 however he does not like the way Microsoft hides the fact that this OS can phone home if you let it. What is even more reprehensible is that after an update some of your settings may be reverted back from "off" to "on". Sure this is not a big deal for someone with a bit of technical knowledge but most people don't have that.Compared against my Fedora 23 KDE Spin:
1) My 2600 packages which include the OS, GUI and lots of packages such as LibreOffice, The Gimp, Handbrake, Chrome, Firefox, some serious maths packages, video display software such as VLC and MPV Media Player as well as a host of other packages too numerous to name here, add up to 9.1GB. Even Linux Mint with it's base ISO install (including LibreOffice and The Gimp) is about 5.1GB. What on earth has Win10 got in that 9.4GB base ISO install that does not have an Office or photo editing suite?
2) My fully customizable KDE display is also very nice and while it does not use tiles (very subjective here) it is very functional and IMHOmuch more flexible. As for installing Fedora it took about the same as it took to install MS Win10, but configuring for security was so much easier in Fedora (again subjective).
Personally, I would rather use Fedora since I have full control, however, there is nothing inherently wrong with Win10 if you lock it down but this is beyond the capability of most users.

Re:Hahahahaha FANTASTIC
Once you have Windows 10, every update acts like this and cannot be rejected.
Stop spreading lies. Updates in Windows 10 can easily be ignored or rejected. There are several that I'm currently holding off on at the moment.
Here is a simple question for you. Do you want the Microsoft operating system that you are currently using supported?
Now take a look at the following Microsoft operating systems that are supported , keep in mind that only those that want and are willing to pay for extended support will get supported, which basically means if you have any Microsoft OS that is less than 8.1 it is not under mainstream support.
If you are a gamer then you either upgrade to MS Windows 10 or you won't be able to play any games that require DirectX 12 support.
What is reprehensible (at least at the moment) is even when you have configured the options for MS Windows 10 an update may revert them back because we all know that "Microsoft knows what is best for us". Take a look at the following video . It is import to note that the presenter is not against the OS, what he does not like is when updates change the user's configurations and this type of thing got a great deal of controversy when some like this happened with a Debian update.

Or, maybe there are other causes for redshift.
If Hubble had seen the redshift of Quasars which appear to have far more redshift than the galaxies they're apparently associated with according to apparent location and similar brightness, then he would not have declared the universe to be expanding.
In other words: The Hubble constant may not be constant, but treating it as a constant produces physics breaking calculations of Quasars as being brighter that entire galaxies when in reality they could simply have non cosmological redshift (redshift that's not associated with expanding space-time).

gobbledygookBrings to mind this quotation from IBM's Tom Watson Jr.:
A foreign language has been creeping into many of the presentations I hear and the memos I read. It adds nothing to a message but noise, and I want your help in stamping it out. It's called gobbledygook. There's no shortage of examples. Nothing seems to get finished anymore it gets "finalized." Things don't happen at the same time but "coincident with this action." Believe it or not, people will talk about taking a "commitment position" and then because of the "volatility of schedule changes" they will "decommit" so that our "posture vis-à-vis some data base that needs a sizing will be able to enhance competitive positions." That's gobbledygook. (February 19, 1970)

Re:this is trash
True - but consider this one: Vangelis - To The Unknown Man. Perhaps it's not your style of music, but it starts off with a very simple and repeatedly stated melody. That melody is then expanded on throughout the rest of the piece. There are many more examples, but that one came to mind quickly to me for some reason.
That's what I meant by lacking - seems like they have the makings of a reasonable anthem bit by following a very simple skipped-note arpeggio rule, and then none of the elaboration required to actually turn it into a fledged out piece of music. -

Re:who decides what is "hate speech"???
How do you define hate? If someone points out issues with say the Church of Scientology that casts them in a bad light does that qualify as hate speech?
No. But if you replace Scientology with Islam then yes, because that's racist! Religions are Races now, but only Judaism and Islam qualify as racial belief systems because those are the nationalities that primarily control the banks and oil reserves. Speaking out against Globalists is hate speech because Globalists control the news and politics and they equate Nationalism with Nazism, and everyone knows that Nationalism + Socialism = Nazism and that leads to Murdering 125,000 Jews (oops, I mean, 6million -- because citing that Red Cross report which was suppressed for 70 years is "racist anti-semitic hate speech").

Re:"20mm x 16mm x 1.5mm and weighing just 1 g"
Am I have a bad morning? This thread is making me want to scream. "Moore's law", "5 years?" Anyone else want to pile in with a tired fatuity? Surf's up, apparently, for a tiny value of "surf".
The following video (from January 2016) contains just about everything worth knowing at this point about Intel's forthcoming phantom memory. Don't even try reading anything else unless you got a bone for chalcogenide chemistry.
Rick Coulson of Intel on 3D XPoint and NVMe
Executive summary: Charge-storage memory is at the end of its rope. There's no longer enough electrons per cell to make the cells reliable. According to Coulson (he passed my bullshit detector with nary a glitch), the typical 3D SSD is correcting about 50 bit-errors per read using advanced error correction, or the devices would not work at all. DRAM scaling is possibly worse.
Resistive memory does not depend upon charge storage, and has completely different physical scaling. Even resistive memories must stack almost out of the starting gate to achieve the scaling velocity that conventional fatuity demands. But the physics and economics of lithography are such that each additional layer suffers from diminishing returns. In fact, the cost of lithography scales as the total amount of surface area patterned, with stacked patterns being ever more expensive the higher you go. There's a sweet spot where the reduction in wafer cost through the use of less wafer pays back the more expensive lithographic process in stacking layers.
It wouldn't surprise me that we're already past that point at 32 layers in SSD, and that what pays off for going even this far are the advantages in density and integration of the surrounding products. (Hence the chips cost more than they could have, but the end product costs less, or justifies a higher per-GB selling price due to some rack-density jizz premium.)
Hard drives have traditionally had the huge advantage of not being a patterned media, hence you get a lot more surface area at a far lower cost. This, too, will change in the transition to bit-patterned media. But this media involves an extremely regular pattern with no fancy layers.
Magnetic Bit Patterned Media Fabrication Using Block Copolymer Directed Assembly
When we finally invent copolymer directed assembly of chalcogenide matrices, then perhaps we can finally dance on the grave of spinning rust.
It pretty much has to be Facebook and Twitter making people so stupid these days. People get so dialed into the present moment where the only acceptable latency is none at all as to completely forget that the past is a large object. Just look at the archival data generated by gene sequencing, EOS, deep sky surveys, CERN, and gravity-wave telescopes and then ask yourself whether an 8 ms cold latency over raw data is too big for you.
With ZFS, 1500 TB is around the present practical limit for one pool (200 drives at 8 TB each, per the Oracle Cloud guy, early 2016) and it's still just 8 ms sector latency (depending on what else you're standing behind). How about you sit there and watch while some lithographic robot patterns out 1500 TB of charge storage cells? Ring me when it's done. I've got more pressing things to do.
