Oh, guns are fetishized because for almost all of human existence they would have been considered magic... you point a stick and boom, something dies. While it's not really magic, it is really the power of life or death and many people can not resist owning that... -

Sign of the times. Back in the day at least they gave us a blue screen, now we're stuck with black

You pay for this, but they give you that

Re:This has been around a while
Indeed it has been around for a while. I'm not sure who the inventor is but I know that Dutch Astronaut Wubbo Ockels conceived the idea for himself in 1995 and start filing patents, the first one being 1997. Here's a video with a prototype which was used to (partially) power the music at a Dutch concert some years ago. Strange that there is no mention of him in the cited article.

Re:Strange
By this point, even Cold Dumbfuck Fascist must know that there are people still in Gitmo that were cleared for release by the Bush Administration.
And why were they there to begin with? For the reason I stated.
If the Bush administration cleared them then why didn't Obama release them? Hmm? Do you think there may be a problem?
By this point, even Cold Dumbfuck Fascist . . . Guy's still bent out of shape that he was born at the wrong place and time to be an informer for Francisco Franco, the Shah, or Pinochet.
The fascists are cousins to the Communists, and both of them are on your side of the "progressive" political spectrum. I'm on the side of democracy, free enterprise, and limited government.

Re:invite more people in?
The irony is that Europe was already THE most multicultural continent on the planet. Polish, German, French, Italian, Greek... Very diverse cultures and personalities all easily accessible for the people of each nation to experience. This so-called "multicultural movement" abomination we have now is destroying that culture rather than enhancing it as proponents of it claim.
Lying, meddling, cunts like this, and other George Soros puppets need to be seen as the enemies of the European nations that they are, and held accountable. Russia was wise enough to put an arrest warrant out for that vile piece of filth.

Do you actually live in Europe? Did you have any exposure to people those secular societies which have existed for almost 70 years by now?

Re:You've Got Fail
AOL is the company that nicely sent out free floppy disks containing the entire internet to everyone back when the internet was small enough to fit on floppy disks. They later upgraded to CD's as the internet grew in size.

Ideed. Here in Belgium there a girl that did the test and recorded the results (as a form of research for her thesis).
The results were surprising.
That said: we too let our kids walk/bike home from school at a similar age as in the article. And we too would be very upset if a police officer would have intercepted them and come to lecture us about our parenting.

This is referred to as differential privacy by Cynthia Dwork. She's an expert on the techniques used to perform data mining without personally identifiable information about "other" people in the dataset. Here's a video of a fascinating talk she gave that outlines her work:

Re:Oddly enough I use a VPN to *NOT* watch Netflix
Personally, I'm really into documentaries and the likes. The problem is Netflix US has all these utterly terrible american style docs which stop every five minutes to recap due to ad breaks which aren't there (in case you haven't seen them, the streamlined Mythbusters are a joy if you know where to get them because they chop out all this crap)

Re:Better Idea..
Do you know how many Muslims were in the Irish Republican Army? or how many the IRA targetted? Not a single one. You don't have to be Muslim to be a terrorist, and you don't have to be a terrorist if you're Muslim. All you have to do is be a bully to someone else's coward.
The first part of your sentence is true. The second part.. not so much. Learn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Catch-22
Say you record a cop shooting a pedestrian. Straight up, cold blood, didn't like them, went postal, flipped their lid and shot a jaywalker.
If you post the video of the murder right away, you can be arrested and charged.
But if you wait an hour, that gives the murderers time to come up with ways to protect themselves.

Re: Great!
Most CFLs have a color rendering index (CRI value) of about 80, while an incandescent is close to 100 so close to the full spectrum is represented. Gaps in the spectrum lead to eyestrain, odd skin tones, etc.
Most LEDs have a CRI of 82-85, just a bit better. But increasingly there are models with "High CRI" of 90 or above. I've got the TCP ones and stuff looks great under them... they also dim down to almost nothing with no buzzing at all. Here is a more expensive model with a CRI of 95. The TCPs were the same price as the Maxlites until a couple months ago, but I think the TCPs may be better because the mfg has taken care to rate its R9 value.
Note those two bulbs have a 3000K "color temperature"... they are not as yellow-orange as normal incandescent bulbs. If you like the "normal" 2700K temp then your choices for high-CRI LEDs become plentiful and you can just pick them up at Home Depot or Lowes.
The color AND quality of sunlight can also be reproduced very well by LEDs.

Re:Seven cent nickel?
Nice callback, but you should really link to the source.
Of course, if you want to minimize change (both the volume of coins changing hands per transaction, and the number of denominations replaced), you could just replace the dime with an 18-cent piece. As a bonus, this turns up natural selection pressure for people who are good at math.
