"This explains why there are relatively few radical Islamists with engineering backgrounds in Saudi Arabia (where they can easily find good employment)"
The reason you won't find many Islamists-engineer-radicals in Saudi Arabia is that they would dissapear into the prison system to be subject to various forms of torture. ref -

Re:SighSo true!
Why the media are *not bore* to repeat "moderated rebels", I feel the same to repeat the "old" arguments, which I read from the Western sources.
The Independent had the insight about who is who, among the groups fighting in Syria, which reveal there is not such "moderated rebels" as the propaganda interest in: Who is Russia bombing in Syria? The militant groups determined to fight to the deathThe sad truth is that after four years of war in Syria there are few moderates left and those that do exist lack military strength. The Free Syrian Army was always a mosaic of factions and is now largely ineffectual.
The FSA, could be considered the most "moderated" group, actually showed that they are extremists, if not terrorists. Their commander ATE heart of Syrian soldier, or accused of allegedly trafficking in human organs. By no means, this organization is fighting for DEMOCRACY or FREEDOM.
Why, the West continuously claimed, Russian is bombing "moderated groups", they unintentionally reveal, BEFORE the Russian bombing, there are only 'four or five' Syrian fighters against Isis, by top general, many were deserted, or hand the armors, weapon to Al Quaeda. Or AFTER the bombing, eventually, the Defense Secretary of U.S Ashton Carter said:However, the moderate Syrian forces “have not come under attack by either Assad’s forces or Russia’s forces.”
The Pentagon explicitly admitted their 500 million program to train "moderated" rebel is FAILED.
Where is the hell "Western-backed rebel forces" is bombed!? -
Re:Ridiculous!
"Pedophile rings simply don't exist in any shape or form that is a threat"
Do some research.
Blackmail is one of the most heavily relied on tools for manipulation with respect to people in positions of power and authority. Many, MANY politicians and prominent businessmen are compromised via pedophilia/sexual deviation.
Secret societies (ladders to power) often use sexual deviation to bond and manipulate their members. For example, Skull & Bones members at Yale (Bush family, John Kerry) undergo an initiation ritual in which they are required to lay naked in a coffin and masturbate while recounting their sexual history to other members. Freemasonry's Master Mason level initiation ritual requires the initiate to engage in oral sex with other members. Higher levels require more sexual deviation, which for members means more 'benefits' and for the leaders it means more control over the individual; usually in the form of blackmail. This is why it is very rare to find whistleblowers in these types of organizations.
The reason that pedo rings continue to exist is because there are so many powerful people involved who are protecting each other - police, judges, lawyers, businessmen, doctors, priests, etc.
Every first-world country is infested with pedophile rings:
For example:
USA - Franklin Cover-Up
Canada - Cornwall 'Clan' pedo ring
UK - Westminster pedo ring
Australia - Perth pedo ring
Belgium - Mark Dutroux cover-up
.. just to name a few.
Conspiracy of Silence is an excellent documentary on the subject.
Shine a light onto these pedophile rings and the power structure of the ruling elite will fall like stacked cards. -
Re:Russia won't retaliate
Oh hey, speak of the devil, they just released a video of the hitting of the helicopter: link "Hard landing" my arse.
They'd really be nowhere today if it wasn't for those TOWs. They film every attack - footage and return of the tubes is apparently part of the deal to get more, to prevent them from stockpiling them or transferring them to other militias, so there's a couple new videos put out every day. Saudi Arabia reportedly purchased 13k of them from the US which it routes through Turkey in batches of a couple hundred at a time.

I have several drones and I support this
I have several drones (two quadrocopters and an octocopter) and I definitely support this.
First, the requirement is not onerous. There are no serious licensing requirements.
Second, having drones to be traceable is a good thing - if somebody crashes them into your window then you'd definitely want to find who did it. And never mind that a crashed drone can sometimes catch fire (mine did) from a ruptured battery (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... as an example).
Third, there is some honey here - FAA plans to review restrictions on flying inside the national parks once the registration system is up and running. -
Re:What if it was a bomb?
he took an off-the-shelf alarm clock, and made it look like a bomb. He did this very deliberately.
Reasonable doubt regarding motivations aside, there were a number of issues with the device being a bomb. Yes, it looked like a bomb if the only bomb you've ever seen has been from a Tom Cruise / Bruce Willis / Liam Neeson movie...but that that point, you're not qualified to determine what is and isn't a bomb. There was nothing even resembling an explosive charge in the case, and even Achmed the Dead Terrorist knows that you don't build a bomb that is required to be plugged into an electrical outlet in order to work, as you'd be rather defeated by way of unplugging the bomb.
Should the school have ignored, what could have been a bomb, because the kid was a Muslim?
No. You follow actual procedure, like "evacuating the building" and "calling a bomb diffusion team", and you treat it like it's actually got an explosive charge, none of which was done. Sure, hold the kid in the principles office (or some approximation thereof as a result of the evacuation procedure), and when the bomb squad tells you that it's absolutely not a bomb, you hand the device back to the student and say, "even though it's not a bomb, I don't want to see this in school again". THAT is how you deal with this situation - treat the device like a bomb, and then when you find out that it isn't a bomb, you treat the student like he's not in possession of a bomb. Not that hard.
What sort of litigation would there have been if it was a bomb, and the school did nothing?
Oh plenty...but the reason why they'd be lawsuited to hell and back in that case would be because they didn't follow the procedures they were supposed to follow when dealing with a bomb scare.
Now, all of that being said, even RIAA/MPAA math would have trouble coming up with $15 million in damages from the situation. A mess was made by all parties involved, these things happen, apologies were made, and I wouldn't be patently against filing a four figure lawsuit + court fees, just on principle. Lawsuits like this though are why we can't have nice things.

Achmed the Terrorist
Personally, I think Ahmed is incredibly like Achmed, the Dead Terrorist https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Dad of Ahmed is an Islamic Supremacist
Mohamed Elhassan Mohamed and Robert Spencer once debated on the topic, “Does Islam Respect Human Rights?” The results were so bad for him that after the debate, The American Muslim pleaded with Muslims not to debate Spencer. In any case, this debate is one indication that Mohamed Elhassan has been trying for several years to make his bones as a warrior against “Islamophobia.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8BLtBFeyyo
The debate starts at 31:48, after an interview with Walid Phares. On a separate note, this Sudanese Islamic activist once claimed that that incident would “spread Islam” in America
That kid may have been innocent, but his father is an Islamic activist trying to intimidate anyone who has any concerns about Islamic activism.

Re:Mars isn't going anywhere.
Bub Zubrin's Mars Direct plan is the most likely scenario, at least in the next few decades. Eventually someone will build large-scale cyclers as you describe, but not until mining of asteroids and the moon gets underway, making materials available in space. Judging by his past statements, Elon intends to land people on Mars before that is likely to happen, which most likely means he intends to do it with the Falcon Heavy, at least for those first few 'flags & footprints' missions. If that is so, then they'll most likely use some variation on Zubrin's architecture. In fact, Zubrin himself has outlined a mission (which calls the 'Trans-Orbital Railroad') using Falcon Heavies.
We know very little about SpaceX's upcoming Mars Colonial Transporter, except that it is intended to transport 100 people to Mars with each flight. It's highly unlikely that they'll make that their first trip to Mars, which means they'll do it with Falcon Heavy first, and that means Mars Direct.
As for when...? I reckon they'll get boots on the ground sometime in the late 2020's.

For those bitching about the "Special Editions"
For those who are just bitching about the special editions, yes we get it. But the internet has you covered. Harmy has a "Despecialized Edition", that you'll obviously have to torrent. If you're concerned about legality, just be sure you own the most recent Blu-Rays- much is based on those, and if you have an edit of a product you own (the Blu-Ray), that's totally legal.
Anyway, here's a youtube where the despecialized edition is gone over at length:

Re:PHP
Thirdly, the API design is so bad it practically pushes unsuspecting developers into the wrong solution. addslashes()? No, use mysql_escape_string(). Oh wait, wasn't that mysql_real_escape_string()? Or perhaps mysql_really_really_i_promise_to_do_it_right_this_time_escape_string()?
To be fair to PHP here, the mysql_escape_string vs mysql_real_escape_string is mostly MySQLs fault (watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... if you want an insight into how screwed up MySQLs development was). It's one of their old C libraries that added the mysql_real_escape_string function.
PHP is not entirely blameless on this front; back in the early days of PHP Rasmus Lerdorf (PHP's creator - read and weep) thought the best way to design an API is to just expose PHP's internal libraries' headers to PHP code, consistency be damned. That's how we got mysql_real_escape_string; Rasmus was just following past form.
PHP has had SQL injection licked for at least the past 10 years (literally every database driver except the deprecated mysql_* one supports binding values to a query), it's just that all of the tutorials are utter, utter garbage and STILL use mysql_* functions.
mysql_* is dead as of PHP 7 (which is pretty imminent now), thank god.
Finally, the PHP community right from the very top embraces shitty practices, like ignoring failing tests in a release build. Again, a source of security vulnerabilities that simply doesn't need to happen.
It comes from the top down. Try running PHP's own tests some time. You'll be utterly unsurprised by the result. They're also written in PHP, which I feel is perhaps something of a design flaw.

A couple points
First, the best treatment of the prequels, and one of the most brilliant things I have ever seen period, is the Star Wars prequel reviews by Red Letter Media. They're here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/R...
I found something meaningful in those reviews, they just captured a sentiment for me â" and I totally recommend checking them out.
Second, maybe the title should be "Disney: George, you're done with Star Wars."?

Re:Sadly..
The point being that neither success nor failure in youth should be interpreted as leading to wisdom in older age. Unfortunately, far too much faith is placed in those who are both young and successful, even when they're just repeating old, seductive mistakes.

Re:What the fuck is with the snark
Jesus... seriously... is there no conservative out there who has enough integrity to imply not fucking lie? Us liberals didn't vote to spend trillions on the ACA because TRILLIONS HAVEN'T AND WON'T BE SPENT ON IT. Pull your head out of your ass. And YES, it was fucking important to people that actually care about their fellow citizens to do what they could to see they could get the medical care they might need, as opposed to the fucked up conservatives who would rather see people just die. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
As for NASA not being in Obama's budgets... are you a fucking idiot? Of course it's there. It's too damn small, just like it's been since the late 1970's, but it's still there. The people wondering why not highways instead of space exploration are those people who are too fucking stupid to realize that dollar for dollar, NASA has had the biggest impact on innovation and economic growth of any government agency. And lets be clear.... the lifetime cost for the F-35 program, a plane that can't do a damn thing that it needed to do, is massively over budget and a decade behind schedule, could fund NASA for like 70-80 years at it's current level. The problem is there are a lot of cowardly politicians who prefer to have a global military hegemony so they can control everything rather than work for the betterment of humanity... and those asswipes continue to spend massive amounts for a military that we, quite frankly, should not have.
But lets make sure we get this straight.... privatization ALWAYS increases costs, and only blind deaf idiots miss the point where the government covers those costs AND MORE through new "subsidies" for the corporations who now have control over what SHOULD BE working for the people of this country. Look at what happened to Medicare B. It is the poster child for what shit happens when "privatization" happens. Services go down, costs go up, everyone's screwed except the corporations.
You want the national debt taken care of.. that's easy.. vote in democrats. Every time we get republicans in there, the debt skyrockets, economic growth slows, and job creation drops. Don't take my word for it, actually look up the numbers. See if reality can penetrate your blind partisan bullshit.
We need a lot less military in every other country in the world, and a lot more basic infrastructure and r&d here at home. -

Re:Moslems are killing you guys and ...
You do not understand Islam. Not at all.
Firstly, the opinions of a gazillian Muslims and Imams mean diddly squat. Only two opinions matter: Allah and Mohammed. And they say kill all the infidels (you will understand this once you understand that critically-important Doctrine of Abrogation) and realize Sura 9:29 replaces everything else and is a FUTURE commandment.
Your second massive mistake is you don't understand that Islam is intended to be interpreted LITERALLY. It says so right there in the Koran. Furthermore, the Koran is considered unchangeable and universal in application - which means ISLAM CANNOT BE CHANGED - at least not until Al Mahdi (an Islamic figure, whose actions match the Anti-Christ of Christianity) comes to enslave the all the World under Sharia and bring total victory to Islam.
Thirdly, while religions may change over time Islam has not since the time of Al Ghazali. Like a typical Westerner you are extrapolating rather than actually researching the claims and doctrines of Islam. Stop doing that - and stop doing that and then making posts where you have ZERO clue about what you are talking about.
You seem to think Islam is a religion. This is a common mistake by Westerners who are told a deliberate deception. Islam claims universality and claims to appliy to believers and infidels alike - that means it is not a religion, but a totalitarian political ideology. The fact you are unaware of this shows just how little you actually know about Islam.
You also seem to think Islam is contained in the Koran. This is not so. Islam is contained in the Koran, Sira and Hadith. By studying the hadith you will understand what Islam is - and the hadith show that Mohammed would have been the most evil and depraved man that ever lived - if he had actually lived (modern scholarship show that Islam in its current form is mostly the work of Caliph Abd al-Malik in order to advance Arab Imperialism). See:
"An Historic Critique of Islam's Beginnings - Jay Smith"
