Re:it's not about temperature but how long
Myself, if I had to make a guess, I'd pick something like the Polywell design: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...
But then, I was largely persuaded by some snark from Bussard: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Paraphrasing from memory, his line goes something like: "We've spent billions of dollars researching Tokamaks and what we've learned is that Tokamaks are no damn good. Even the people working on them will tell you that they're never going to work, but they say the physics is really good. They're like superconducting cathedrals. But fusion works, we know it works, if you look up in the sky you see fusion reactors everywhere, and not a single one of them is torroidal."
More reasonably, he makes the point that even with minimal funding, they were able to get within something like a factor of 10- "not a factor of 100 or 1000, but a factor of 10".

It's no different than radio
I know, I'm old. But seriously, they're directly copying this form of advertising from Radio. I actually found it charming when Pat the NES punk started doing it. The clearest indicator that radio is dying was when the advertisers move to the new media.
To be honest I'm not going to be sad to see the old media go. The new media can be just as bad, but it can also be better -
Also a literal Nazi collaborator
Soros is also a literal Nazi collaborator. Yes, he worked to help Hitler himself. There's an old episode of 60 Minutes with him admitting this straight up and explaining that he feels no guilt for it.
To expound upon that, he was a Jew in Germany at the time of the Nazi regime. His parents gave him to some friends of theirs to protect him. Those friends happened to be Nazis who confiscated the property of other Jews for the Nazis. Growing up, he helped with this work. He doesn't think he did anything wrong by helping the Nazis rob other Jews and said so in a TV interview.
You might think this would disqualify him in public life, but it's a "conspiracy theory" to repeat his own televised words now. Yes, Snopes and all the usual suspects defend him, in a disgusting display of double-standards. It's odd for the "punch a Nazi" crowd who want to label everyone who disagrees with them as Nazis to defend an actual Nazi collaborator, but it's not really surprising. He simply went from working for the National Socialists (Nazis) to working for the International Socialists and helping them confiscate other people's property.
Whatever you do, don't listen to his own words. That's a big conspiracy. You can't listen to conspiracies! The media says it's wrong!

Re:New York and Virginia paying $5.5B for ~5k jobs
Richard Wolff did a good job of concisely making the points on just how bad a deal this is for New York and Virginia (which are together funding over half of the costs of this project -- $5.5B versus Amazon's $5B according to the New York Times)—and all for an estimated 2,500 jobs in New York (I don't know how many jobs are projected for the Virginia site but I'm guessing it's comparable totaling around 5,000 jobs). Here's some of what he said:
This is a shocking display. What they are calling a government-private partnership is nothing of the sort. It's a public subsidy to Amazon. The New York Times reported $5 billion in this project will be invested by Amazon. $5.5 billion dollars will be invested by New York and Virginia. That is a subsidy of over 50% of the cost of this project. We the taxpayers will be either paying higher taxes to fund this private company, among the richest in the world, or, if we don't get our taxes raised, the government will deliver fewer services to us because it has given this enormous subsidy to a company. $5 billion from Virginia and New York where Mr. Bezos, the owner of Amazon, is himself the owner of $160 billion. He didn't need it, the company doesn't need it. We are being asked to subsidize. All of the profits will go to the private companies and their shareholders. We, the public, will be funding more than half of this project. Shame is what Mr. DeBlasio ought to feel rather than posing in the PR as if he has delivered something. [...]
The projected number of jobs in the New York area from this is 2,500. That's a very small number and will have no effect on the unemployment problem of this city [New York City] it's just too small and that's not a surprise [...] because the kind of work Amazon does is highly automated; it uses machines for 90% of what it does. And half of the people it's likely to have working in New York will be brought in from other parts of the Amazon empire.
Yeah, but what you’ve failed to account for, what EVERYONE fails to account for is this:
Having one of Amazon.com’s (now) several headquarters facilities will FINALLY put the backwards, previously unknown little jerkwater known as “New York City” on the MAP! Finally, people from farther away than Newark, New Jersey will know the name, “New York City!”
They’ll have to come up with a nickname for it, what with Amazon taking a giant bite out of the taxpayers’ coffers to pay for all the free stuff they’re giving the richest man in the known universe and all of human history. Some kind of sweet, soft, juicy fruit, and a big one. Perhaps the “Large Orange”. Or maybe the “Great Peach.”
Awww... I’m sure they’ll come up with SOMETHING.

Re:Helpful
Missiles should be able to navigate with a paper map.
They can!
Obligatory The Missile Knows Where It Is
Transcript (shamelessly copy/pasted from elsewhere):
The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't. By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn't be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.

Military equipment and tactics w/o the training
A YOutuber by the name of Beau of the Fifth Column has some great videos on reasonable gun control.
One of the videos talks about a 61 year old man who was shot by police who came to take his guns away after he was declared a risk to the community. The cops came at 5am. They did that because it's a military tactic. You're showing up while the target is waking up and likely to be disoriented. It's a tactic you use when you're showing up to kill your target.
And that's the problem. Police are using military tactics meant for lethal force without thinking about it. They adopted Military tactics because that's "Tough on Crime" without having the training or understanding of what those tactics _mean_. This is why you don't militarize your police.
For the record his solution was to have the police pull the guy over while he's out and about (similar to what was suggested for the leader of the Branch Dividians), take him to a hearing and have a hearing then and there to determine if he's a threat to the community. Seemed like an OK compromise. -

If the "Big Desktop" corporations got sued everytime a bug in their apps deleted or mangled something, the corporations would be sued to oblivion. That's why they have "license agreements" whereby in order to use the app, you have to check a box that essentially says they are not responsible when your data goes kaflooey.
It's kind of like a North Korean election where your ballot presents two choices:
__ A) Kim
__ B) dieIt's even worse with apps, since you may get both.
Therefore, do the Ballmer Dance to "Backups backups backups"...

exit strategy
We're probably going to buy the Mac mini i5 anyway, to replace my wife's 2008 iMac, with a game plan to run it into the ground for another eight to ten years.
Personally, I don't see the repairability problem. Unless we go crazy writing to the internal storage (unlikely), there's very little to break on this system. Everything but two memory sticks is soldered down. The vast majority of peripherals are tangled up a giant dongle mess behind the cute little box. Those will break and can be unplugged.
Apart from failed DRAM, the smallest possible electronics repair is to swap the main logic board. (The most likely repair is not electronics: it's the power supply and fan, neither of which are protected by the T2 chip, unless Apple is far more Big Brother than anyone back in 1984 even began to imagine.)
I will likely confirm before purchase that it remains possible to install Windows 10 though Boot Camp on an external drive (just an actual TB3 drive would be acceptable as a fail safe; but far better if USB drive were also allowed).
I would be extremely surprised if such a minimalistic system board had more than a 5% failure rate over ten years (unless Apple has completely screwed the cooling envelope, and if there's anything Apple knows, it's confining warm things in tight places, all the while making your think it's your warm thing, in your tight place of choice).
So we'll just self-insure on the books to replace this box if it fails with any damn thing at hand. And we'll keep layers of hot backups on the nearby NAS box. That means we basically won't ever buy any macOS-specific software we can't afford to lose at the first Apple glitch.
It seriously sucks that the world has come to this, but we're going to temporise for one more long product generation. We both hate Windows 10. Every other machine in the house is BSD or Linux. My Android phone doesn't even have its data modem enabled (I can't stand the Android security model), so it's exclusively used for phone calls, text messages, and accessing my personal web server on the internal Wi-Fi. My wife's phone is a recent iPhone from her place of employment, which she only uses for text messages to me and a few other people, and for real work.
It's nice to have one machine in the place compatible with recent, mainstream things. It makes her place of employment happy when she teleworks from a platform they've ever heard of before. That's why she has an iMac in the first place.
1984 Apple's Macintosh Commercial
The T2 is that chick with the hammer. What's she's smashing is any narrative at all you can understand—to be replaced by the blinding wall of dazzling white light of Apple arrogance.
On November 11th, 2018, Apple Computer will introduce the T2 solder-flash refresh. And you'll see why 2018 will be exactly like "1984."
I fudged the date a little, but why not Remembrance day, for good measure? Because I remember the 1984 advertisement (as a scary harbinger), and I always will.
Who can watch that old commercial now, and not read it as foretelling a dark future?

Instead of pulling numbers out of your ASS (which makes you look like an idiot) why don't you actually LOOK at the data such as STEAM users:
* Around 0.37% use 1280 x 720
* Around 12.62% use 1366 x 768
* Around 64.29% use 1920 x 1080.Where the fuck are you getting "95% of PC gamers" from??? Do you even USE a PC ???
> but what the fuck has that got to do with playing on a monitor or TV where you don't get motion sickness because you still have your peripheral vision?
FALSE.
My wife gets motion sickness at > 30 fps on both TV and monitors.
More proof that you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.
Why don't you actually TALK to people doing VR and LEARN about issues instead of spouting nonsense.
First, your argument was:
console gamers are some of the most demanding 60 fps
which is FALSE.
a) Oh look at that shitty 30 FPS, even on PS4 Pro:
* Destiny 2
* Horizon Zero Dawnb) Let's ALSO conveniently ignore that fact that Arcade gamers and PCs gamers have enjoyed 60 FPS _long_ before console gamers did.
c) Let's ignore tablet and phones now targeting 120 FPS
Now you are shifting the goal posts to some bullshit "competitive FPS" line.
> console gamers enjoy fixed 60 fps in all modern competitive FPS games.
Except NOT all (console) games run at 60 fps. THAT's the point.
So much for console gamers "demanding" 60 FPS when there is ZERO sales data to support it.
> console gamers are some of the most demanding 60 fps even when it doesn't make sense
WHEN does it not make sense to run at 60 FPS ???
If you can't even run the UI at 60 FPS you are doing it wrong.

* Destiny 2

Re: Globalist snake
Your link confirms that the video is misleading by virtue of the timing being screwed up.
No it doesn't. It only talks about compression artifacts and having fewer frames. While that may give the appearance of movement being faster, there's no evidence it was deliberately sped up, and that wasn't the point of the video.
So even if we accept that the change was the result of the format shift (which seems unlikely because it's uneven, most of it is at the correct speed except for the moment when his arm comes down)
That's your own fantasy. Again, from lefty BuzzFeed: "There's no evidence that the video was deliberately sped up"
that still leaves the fact that the result is misleading and was used to make a false allegation.
No, it was CNN that lied. Rather than admit that, you and the rest of the lying media are trying to reframe the narrative.
Here's the true sequence of events:
Sarah Sanders: "President Trump believes in a free press and expects and welcomes tough questions of him and his Administration. We will, however, never tolerate a reporter placing his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern..."
CNN producer Allie Malloy: "This is a complete lie. The woman grabbed Jim's arm repeatedly. He never once touched her. In fact at one point @Acosta tells her politely "pardon me, mam" as she's yanking on his arm."
Paul Joseph Watson: ""He never once touched her." That is a complete lie. He clearly did. Is whatever you're paid by CNN really worth making a total fool out of yourself for the world to see?"
And he posts the video in question. Then you clowns turn it into a "doctored" video conspiracy theory instead of acknowledging what the story was really about: CNN lying and Acosta being a douche that refused to give up the mic after asking several questions and having them answered, including using his arm to block the young intern from retaking the mic. He only gives up the mic after Trump looks like he's signaling to security to haul his ass out of there. It's the White House Press Conference, not the "Jim Acosta Show".
Anybody can watch the full exchange and see what happened.

Re: Complete fictional bollocks.
From the 500 meters I walk from my home to the train station, I never have seen a car doing anything wrong, besides not paying a parking ticket. I see 2 to 5 cyclists doing something illegal each day, including:
Driving on the pedestrian path.
Driving in a one-way street, where it is clearly forbidden for cyclists.
Not stopping at a crossing. Not only do they do that, if I not go out of their way, they get angry. Yes, I have had them hit me. The trick I learned is that if they hit you with the steering bar, you feel relative little, while they say hello to the ground.
So if you ONLY see two per month, they behave well.
From the cyclists I see, around 50% is doing something wrong or at least unsafe.

Wrong ApproachPainting journalists as a victim class isn't helpful.

People have a low opinion of them because of the way so many of them have repeatedly been shown to behave when they're held accountable."One of the bulwarks against that, and one of the institutions that is most under stress right now, is a free-thinking, independent, rigorous, robust, respected media," the prime minister said.
Interesting how he left out "honest," yet threw in "respected" like it's some obligation on the public.
