Personally I'd like to have _all_ activity (audio, network, CPU, everything) stopped on every tab except the active one. If I want to be annoyed I can pop the tab into it's own window (or if someone cares to implement it - you could have per-tab controls).
Actually a 4GB MacBook Pro does show up as having 3.75GB of memory (in Activity Monitor) after being upgraded to Snow Leopard. Although I'm not really sure why.
it's impressive that little Kylie is able to transfer a snapshot of her pet fish from her camera to a PC, color-correct it, and e-mail it to her family
Actually, we don't see her do any of these things. The advert is so full of jump cuts and close-ups [*], that the only thing we see the child actually do is plug in a USB cable (the fiddly end of which is already suspiciously plugged into the camera before she starts).
Although, I'm not saying that in itself isn't impressive, given that USB was designed in such a way that the most common USB plug is symmetrical and fits in the socket (to a limited extent) the wrong way up.
[*] At least the version on YouTube is - like I'm going to install Silverlight.

Then go to the Parental Controls Preferences and disable the iTunes Store.
Wasn't too hard, was it?
But then the volume of a pizza of thickness 'a' and radius 'z' wouldn't be 'pi z z a' it would be 'tau z z a / 2'.
And FWIW compiling with:
gives a runtime for smallpt 100 of 2m31s for my MacBook ("Early 2008" model).
One of the comments on the smallpt page recommends adding the following line:

It seems to do the trick for me.
The first release of Java was in 1995.
And it's nice they way they expect you to carry your canoe across one of the Hawaiian Islands in the middle of your journey.

Wait. Microsoft have invaded Poland? I've got a bad feeling about this.

I thought I wanted something like that - but in the end I went for a Garmin Foretrex 101 and a solar AAA battery charger.
Excellent. Oh, hang on, I thought you said it had mince pie slots.
This is pilot error not a ridiculous software bug.
If you wanted them to see the same pages as you why didn't you send the document in some sort of Portable Document Format?
140 characters shouldn't be too much of a problem to get the nuances of an important news item across.
If they need more they can always use tweetdoubler.
And I thought we used wings...
