    1) SCO would of spread FUD about Linux.
    2) SCO could be destroyed by this resulting the elimination of a competeitor in the server market.
    3) Those who paid SCO for liscenses may decide to switch to Windows so that another SCO-like company will be unable to force them into buying useless liscenses.
    4) SCO may of put some chincks into IBM's armor causing some to question if IBM's server software is legal.

In the end, MS paying SCO to sue IBM may result in more sells on Windows Servers just from the fact that MS is appearing to stay out fight. I half way expect to see a MS add saying "While the legality of Linux is being fought in court, we at MS are working to make a safer, more secure, and legal OS for you."

All that courts seem to be doing to MS these days is drawing a line in the sand and saying "Ok MS, here's the line. Please don't cross it." MS then steps over the line and all the court does is step back, draw another line, and tell MS "Ok, that was a practice line. Pretty please, don't cross this one."

If the courts keep letting MS cross the line, the next thing we know we'll be paying $800 for the new Windows desktop OS just because MS had to bundle Office into the OS.

Anything that does not allow you to make backup copys of videos and software that you have purchased is wrong. And any law that makes normal people making backups into criminals needs to be abolished.

A few years ago, my house caught fire and burned down taking everything with it. Fortunately, I had off site backups of my software or I would be spending several thousand dollars replacing all of it. Then it was legal to do such a thing but today I'm a criminal for making backups.

How would your mail-in replacement work for me in that situation? Am I supposed to send them in the melted plastic and say "send me a replacement"? Or how about I'll send them some ash and say "see, this is my receipt. My house burned down, send me replacements."
