There's nothing new about physically fooling sensors; the NVA/VC used to hang bags of urine in trees as a low-tech solution to the US's sophisticated human detection devices...
But I think what they're getting at here is that as people increasingly throw together IoT devices (and phones, and PCs...) using
(a) the same (cheap and easily fooled) hardware, and (b) the same commodity firmware / software stacks and libraries, with damn-all security insight
There will not be the same kind of "end to end" systems engineering applied that one would expect - say - from a car or airplane manufacturer...
And yet you'll be entrusting your family's safety, security & data to cheap-ass, easy to crack-and-hack, commodity IoT devices that will be always-on, always-listening, always-connected and running your power, HVAC, fire detection and physical access systems...
Poor Uncle Sam , the global cop that's damned if he does, or does not... Of course US gets a lot of well-deserved stick for fuckups like Iraq and Vietnam, but don't forget that in most of these operations he was accompanied by more-or-less enthusiastic allies such as Canada, UK, Australia...and for Iraq 1 nearly everybody... Also, how is the USA less of a dick that Russia and China? Do you really think that Putin would not be laying Europe to waste right now if he had the military might of the USA? What about Syria? You think it was Father Xmas bombing the hospitals and the aid convoys? Face it, AC, a large section of the world is going to hate "The West" (and especially the USA), always, forever, and whatever they do... Of course, that does not excuse illegal "police" actions or extrajudicial killings, but the USA is by no means the only - or worse - offender in this. (Yeah, I know, a liberal western democracy should be held to a high standard, but life ain't fair...)
Unfortunately, AA missiles can do 30 to 50g (depending on if their rocket motor is still burning or not...), so your best option here is outrunning the buggers at extreme altitude not out-turning them...and good luck with that, since mach 5+ is easy for modern missiles...
strangely enough, many of the first people...will be over the age of 55
Many elderly people have reached the stage where they know they should not be driving any more, but have to...or move from the house they've lived in for years. So this could be great for them...

Right with you until this part; sharing a tent or a boat cabin tends to be fairly binary - after a day or two you're either bonding or just want to kill each other. Not the best option if you're in a storm on a mountain or 100 miles from port.
You should have learned the lesson with iPhone 4s and last-gen iPads; the fuckers did exactly the same thing then...NEVER take the "last" upgrade for your device from Apple - it is ALWAYS designed to nerf the device.
Except that my two top-spec iPads and iPhone 4s were wonderfully responsive and fluid right until the last software update which, guess what, made them so slow as to be practically unusable. I'm sure that's just a coincidence...
The water is not lost; it's pumped back up the hill after being run down through turbines during peak load. Large lakes do of course suffer from evaporation loss.
A quick look at the graph in The Fine Article shows that indeed "fossil" looks flat; probably because in the late 70s and 80s nuclear was coming on-stream and hydrocarbon usage started to dip. Of course, the oil crisis helped. But then China exploded economically so hey - coal and gas came back up %age-wise. These days of course, "renewables" (why do I hate that term so much? The sun is not magically "renewing itself; it's literally burning to death...), anyway, solar & wind etc. are picking up where nuclear left off. The fact is that the cheapness, convenience and energy-density of hydrocarbons can't be beat in most situations in developing nations.

Including having the UK Parliament publicly make statements about Trump's mental health and or fitness for office before the election?..... How about that? How about the US media that aired those abusive statements and comments?
[Added the bold]. Abusive? Sounds more like "fair comment".
If we're talking about Trump, his subsequent words and deeds should have confirmed to all that he's obviously neither of sound mind nor fit to hold the office of POTUS.
But of course, these days right, left and all love to instantly demonise their opponents - or just anybody that disagrees with them on a random topic - by labelling them as "abusive" or whatever.
Plus it gets the IP & knowledge base built on the patents, and the people that did it. HTC used to make pretty decent devices, and I'm sure there's still some guys here who remember how its done. It's sometimes much faster and cheaper to buy a team of talented designers and engineers, PMs etc. rather than build from scratch.
This ain't "news for nerds" and it sure as shit ain't "stuff that matters".
Please stop.

Nice work, but you can up the loads - building 'planes that can survive +10g is not trivial, but very doable...

Damn, hit "post" too fast; meant to say, I'm not sure - based on recent multiple failings - we do have "some of the best" anymore

Ever.
