  1. Re:Some things that will help on How Nintendo Could Win It All · · Score: 1

    You couldnt be more wrong.

    1. DVD player -

Everyone has one. Noone cares if their videogame system can play dvds or not.

    2. Push the online gaming. -

Less then 10% of videogame players play games online, and even then, do you really want to deal with the immature, smack-talking, swearing, "give me my chocolate milk, bitch!" crowd? Nintendo is focusing on people having fun, together in the house, as per the previews. It will probably have some online play, but the online component will likely be used more for downloading more games then actual online gaming.

    3. Advertise, advertise, advertise. -

Nintendo's biggest push in this is a new mode of gameplay, something VERY difficult to advertise for. They walk a fine line between "That looks cool" and "That looks dumb." Their best bet is to actually get people playing it in stores and friends' homes. That'll be the real trick. Of course, commercials should exist, but their focus should be on getting the system in peoples' hands.

  2. People will just call it "Nintendo" on Both Sides of Wii · · Score: 1

Just like they called the NES, snes, n64, ps1, ps2, genesis, gamecube and almost every other console.

You see "Nintendo" means "home console" for MANY people who are not very familiar with videogames, which is who nintendo is targetting. They will call this "that new nintendo."

And hardcore gamers? Well, they know enough not to base a purchase on something like a silly name. They would buy it if it were called "the nintendo stinky brown mass."

    Lumines - Bandai - 2005

Take one part puzzle game with one part musical experience and tack on some trippy visuals and you've got Lumines, the brainchild of Tetsuya Mizaguchi (the man behind Rez). We've managed to get our hands on the Japanese version of the game and needless to say, we have to do everything in our power not to play it all day long.

The idea I simple: match up four colored blocks to that they form a square. But add to mix a unique music-based combo system and you have one of the most innovative puzzle games every made on any console. Lumines also packs in some truly impressive music and sound that will have you toe-tapping for hours on end. Out of all the PSP titles we've played so far, this is the one that's consumed our lives and we bet it will consume yours, as well.

Heck, you can even argue that macro hurts video quality. That alone should be enough to crush the idea.

I know there has been this massive rush to get computers into everything-education, but its simply not needed.

The tech you need is a good language teacher, some dictionaries, and maybe a few textbooks/workbooks.

Maybe a japanese->english english->japanese dictionary could be useful, but even then it could make for some seriously lazy students. But I imagine those kids already know about babelfish.
