Their recent releases have been nothing short of spectacular. Some of their backcatalogue stuff (nadesico included) have been released kinda crappily due to poor masters, but lately their quality of product has been fantastic.
To answer your questions
1) Probably. Either latenite or the SAP w/ close captions on. I wouldnt be suprised if this happens.
2) Probably. ADV already distributes for some other anime companies.
3) Yes.. Raxhephon (which i cant spell properly) will likely be aired on The Anime Network before its released on DVD
4) All channel do marathons sometimes.
Yes some of ADV's early dvd releases were faulty. But frankly, they have improved far beyond the rest to be the #1 anime retailer in the nation.
actually, CN's editing is minimum. More of cowboy bebop aired in america then in japan, and the story content is consistent with the japanese versions.
This complaint may of been valid a few years ago, but it is hardly worth discussing these days.
please cite some recent examples of this to support your argument, because frankly. i dont buy it.
actually they are selling them to adults. Shockingly enough, most KIDS dont have the 50$ to buy a ps2 game. The parents buy it for them. Besides, the biggest buyers of gta:3 were 18-24 year old males. Hardly children.
doh, i forgot about the saturn. you are right on that one..
im pretty sure you are wrong about the GC. there was something mentioned that they COULD sell at a loss, but they wernt. I dont think nintendo has ever sold a console at a loss.
No, i cannot reveal my sources. take these posts as rumor.. for i cannot claim them to be truth:/
Selling the hardware is NOT normally a loss-leader. This is a general misconception about the gaming industry. There have been 2 consoles sold at a loss; Dreamcast and X-Box. The gamecube and the ps2 both make profits for nintendo and sony respectively. Sure, its not much.. may even be cents.. but please do not continue to push this rumor.
Just to back your argument up a bit. The basis of profit for sony, nintendo, and MS are, indeed, selling high profit margin games. But MS is the only one currently losing money on a console.... and they are losing money hand-over-fist.
The dreamcast and the xbox are the only consoles ever to be sold at a loss. Sony and Nintendo are nothing short of brilliant when it comes to the videogame industry.. they have to be.
you have GOT to be kidding me. Spirited away made the front page of USA Today for fucks sake!
Check out this thread on animeondvd.com for more info.
i dont think disney has a merchandising lisence for spirited away. Lisencing is a very complicated issue, and often the lisencer is very stingy about what they allow to be produced. I, however, have seen tv commercials, radio spots, and ads in newspapers.
well, the american dvd release will probably have literal and the dub script as 2 seperate subtitle tracks. Mononoke did, and the few rare sub reels around the country are literal, not off the dub.. However, you you are really interested in importing the r2 dvd, i recommend http://www.cdjapan.co.jp
Please take note, All the legit dvds of this title have a "red tint" to them. Ghibli claims its for better presentation on plasma tvs. I would of imported this already if it wasnt for this odd issue. I decided to wait on the r1 release because of this.
dont forget the bemani line. rythm games are a pretty revolutionary concept.. Even if it is about 4 years old now:) Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Freaks, Beatmania, and Para Para Paradise are all fantastic games.
The RIAA has seen what the people want, and refuse to offer them that service. Because of this, people are going to take an alternate method of getting what they want.
All of this litigation is, frankly, nonsense.
If the goverment is for the people, (i know it really isnt) and the people want to be able to download mp3s. Then this should be reflected in the law of the land.
I would agree with you.. but theres one small problem.
Its called "PS2 DVD Region Free." A PS2 swapdisk that allows you to select which region you want. I got this for my imported r2 and r3 dvds (all of which have english subs, love you ghibli.) It works fantastically, ive never had a problem playing anything with it.
Or you could, i dont know... Buy the dvds? They are released by ADV Films, who are not a member of the MPAA or any other evil organization... And you would be supporting the show you liked.
Look at libraries! how dare we napsterize the publishing industry like that.
yeesh.

Politicans move because of two things and two things only.
Theres a third thing. "Power." Some of these people are so wealthy that more money wouldnt mean all that much to them. It gets to the point where they want to have power over the teeming masses.
the APEX line are generally considered to be some of the WORST players on the market. They have trouble playing a ton of legit dvds.. and has even been described as Anime Products EXcluded. They dont follow spec, and have worse picture quality then a ps2.
You can, however, get a pretty damn good, home-theater worthy, modded pioneer player for around $250
there are very _Very_ few edits in the tv broadcast of bebop. A couple bare breasts and the blood from someone being shot in the head, but you still see the bullet hole.. You cant really call it hackslashed.
The dub is considered one of the best around.. i rather like it. It does, however, still fall to the "strange pace of talking" that anime dubs often do.
actually the phrase is "please put me on your 'Do Not Call' list."
I do that. Sometimes i tell them im interested and ask them to hold, put down the phone, and go back to whatever i was doing. Check back when i get bored, see if they are still on the line:)
Yes, ADV is really who fans want doing this.

So... What can we do about it?
It seems like theyve shut us out of all legit, legal options. Time to break out the brass knuckles and get ready for a serious physical beatdown.
Im kidding of course.. but seriously, what do we do now?
Uhm, there IS a tv out for GBA. Its not a lisenced nintendo product, but it exists.

good old liksang.
its a nifty bit of hardware, but its 50$.
bahaha, you should go to an anime convention.
Over half the attendees these days are young nubile girls. If you dont believe me, go look at www.fansview.com
Plenty of females into anime. Trust me on this one.

so, the obvious answer is to break the law if this passes.
nothing changes
problem solved.
good day.

either that or Lik-Sang will say "yeah, okay." and shut down shop.
:)
Two weeks later a Sik-Lang site is up and doing the exact same thing.
It'll be like whack-a-mole

What is it with koreans and dying playing videogames? This is, like, the 3rd time this has happened.
C'mon guys, get some sense!

Oh, it also costs less then 20 Dollars.
No, there must of been another reason. Perhaps it was simply a token gesture, who knows.

Heh, just go to an anime convention and check out the masqurade. :)
Actually according to "anime fan laws" Distribution of fansubs/bootlegs is supposed to stop when the title is LISENCED, not when its released.
:/
Of course, most people dont give a crap either way anymore and you can still find it
