Or it could be you are so John Birch right, that the moderate center looks pinko.

I mean, c'mon, that sounds like a "fair and balanced" argument. "Balanced" doesn't mean your measure of equanimity is presenting every opposing view as equal, or even valid, for that matter. Setting up strawman arguments is a no no as well (note to readers - the following analogy is merely for illustrative purposes)

"OK, we've heard from the abused wife and kids, and the doctor who treated them, but we also hear from reliable sources that the father has been under a great deal of stress, and we have no information yet on the mental stability of the wife and kids..."

As if these perspectives are both equally newsworthy and somehow come out a wash, so you've been "fair and balanced."

"Ted 'Chappaquiddick' Kennedy falls asleep during security briefing" should not be presented as a foil to "Bush criticized for his Iraq reconstruction plan" but that tends to be the setup of most talk radio, Hannity, O'Reilly, et al.

...but isn't this the same author that gives every single Apple product a favorable review? It would be nice to see reviews from an unbiased source.

Actually, Walt Mossberg used to regularly marginalize the mac, as did Hiawatha Bray of the Boston Herald. I don't think it was malicious; they just didn't see any stemming of the MS tide, and any mention of the mac was kind of meh. Now that FOSS and OS X have been steadily gaining traction, and MS is getting a bad rap *and it actually matters to people making the purchasing decisions* it's a different story.

I think Mossberg and Bray started coming around when 10.1 and the new PowerBooks came out.

Besides, if something is good and getting better all the time (Apple really hasn't stepped on its d**k much at all wrt OSX), why not say that? I consider myself a pretty realistic person, but I can't think of significant drawbacks of Apple hardware or software for their target audiences that haven't been already addressed for the most part.

Parse those weasel words, why dontcha? :)

iTunes uses IE as its browser no matter what browser you choose. Maybe it's because the functionality of iTMS requires IE or Safari, as other browsers are not supported.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. iTunes is a standalone app, and the iTunes Music Store is integrated into iTunes and does not use any external browser code, but some sort of custom XML.

Are you referring to some other functionality of iTunes other than music browsing/purchasing?

ARM was established in November 1990 as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd., a UK-based joint venture between Apple Computer, Acorn Computer Group and VLSI Technology. Apple and VLSI both provided funding, while Acorn supplied the technology and ARM's 12 founding engineers. Acorn, developer of the world's first commercial single-chip RISC processor, and Apple, intent on advancing the use of RISC technology in its own systems, chartered ARM with creating a new microprocessor standard. ARM immediately differentiated itself in the market by creating the first low-cost RISC architecture. Conversely, competing architectures, which were more commonly focused on maximizing performance, were first used in high-end workstations.
