  1. Re:spam defense on Spam Increases Make Things Tough For Companies · · Score: 2

I recieved a spam from the same company that was mentioned. Of all things, the spam was generated when I posted to an alumni message board of the high school I went to. To start with, the website is not mine, and second, I would much rather see the students in the web programming class learn how to promote the site. I forwarded the spam to Neil Schwartzman and he replied back to me stating that the best thing I can do is ignore it. I wouldn't expect a dime from this. If they do act, it would be a very interesting precedent that was set.

  3. Imagine this Shifman scenario on Spammer Sues List Broker · · Score: 2

Bernard Shifman sends his "resume". The honeypots can his resume and trace the origin back to Shifman. One such offense is in England, where spam is punishable by time in a dungeon. A class-action suit is brought against Shifman because of his spam. In response, irate recipients of Shifman's resume tell DoubleClick to pass off every spam they get to a specific user profile (matched to only send to Bernie). Bernie gets the idea that he can make money selling address lists and saves all the addresses he gets from the recipients and multiple forwards. One spam company decides to sue Bernie for a bogus list. Just imagine the scene in the courtroom with a bunch of whiny little kids arguing before Your Honor.

I found it rough as well to find employment after I graduated from college. Neary every employer that I talked with either over the phone or during an interview did not want me because I lacked experience (biggest joke I heard) or was lacking in what they percieved as "knowledge of the industry." Basically, my CS degree to them was the equivalent of toilet paper. I did find a job doing technical support, and while paying off a new car, I'm working on getting a couple certifications, starting with A+. Once I have a couple certs and some work experience, I should be ready to move on to the next phase of my IT career. Right now, I'm looking at wanting to do network administration and Linux administration. My theory is that with what M$ is doing, I have a feeling that IT managers and CIOs are going to switch over to Linux by refusing to pay the "Microsoft Tax".

I'm in the process of becoming A+ certified, and will be looking at picking up a couple other certifications as well. My purpose of the certifications is to gain some leverage come annual review time. My employer must decide if I get another raise, or if I stay at my current rate, or if they let me go because I'm too expensive.

I'm also getting the impression that my employer needs to find another direction to take the company in the wireless communications industry. Paging is on its way out and it appears that the next big thing in wireless is broadband wireless communications. Only thing that I can say is that I hope the company has a couple good ideas to capitalize on so it can stay alive.
