Cloud in this case appears to mean "Microsoft hosted datacenter".
RPC-over-HTTP has been around for awhile now and should work fine with this 'cloud' service. They didn't seem to imply the Office apps were going cloud, just server side.
The point of the article is not that the galaxies were 7 billion light years away, there have been galaxies observed over 10 billion light years from us.
The real story is that these galaxies were in front of quasars and the infrared technique has now allowed observation of them.
Yes, I play mine almost every day. My wife also plays it often, she is a sucker for anything Mario Bros. and loves Super Paper Mario. I currently have a stack of games that will take me at least 2-3 months to burn through.
I almost feel like the Wii was made just for me. I burnt out on the hardcore online gaming scene about 5 years ago, and haven't been able to keep interest in any serious games since then. It's not that I don't like new games, it's that I no longer have hours a day to invest in a game that takes 60 hours to complete. My gaming time has been cut down to an hour, hour and a half at a time max.
I even thought for a couple years that I was no longer a gamer, until the DS rescued me from that dark vision.
I guess if I was still a "hardcore" gamer and was into online play and FPS or MMORPG games I'd be underwhelmed by the Wii. But I'm not, my glory years of gaming are in the past and now I feel like there's a game company that understands that.
Yes, I've used ProPalm's (formerly Tarantella's, formerly NewMoon's) product for over three years now. It works as well as we need it to but it's not flawless. The features we use heavily are the load balancing, applicatin web portal (analagous to program neighborhood in citrix) and the ability to publish apps based on our AD structure. For 200 users we have 8 load balanced servers, none of them powerhouses, really.
Our biggest issues have been with printing support. However, this is not limited to ProPalms, it will be your biggest issue with any Terminal Services application that relies on the client printer configuration. We are in the process of switching over to pure server based printing to bypass the client printer sharing "feature". We have a stupid high density of printers in our organization though, with over 40 printers supporting 200 staff.
In my opinion it is a legitimate competitor to Citrix and obviously comes with a significant price advantage. Feel free to email me.
Most of the 4 player games use only the remote attachment, so buying 4 of the nunchucks would be a waste. There are only a few games that even need an additional nunchuck at that - Madden 07 being the biggest one.
I agree overall though about being nickel and dimed. Seems the virtual console was created for just that reason.
As far as how a guy breaks into a mostly female clique, I suspect most Slashdotters would desperately love to know that one. So if anyone has more insight into that general conundrum, tey should post it.;-)
Easy, have a kid. I work in a government agency that is 85% female and since they've all found out I have a new infant I'm bombarded daily with questions, pic requests, etc. I have to hide in my office now!
Rayman Raving Rabbids looks to be one of the more innovative titles coming out for the Wii. From the interviews and other promotional material I've seen there will be many "mini-game" type uses for the controller depending on the situation as well as a coherent control scheme using the new controller. Also, Mario Galaxy is looking great although it won't be available at launch.
There's no single list of all the titles. Ubisoft confirmed their titles a couple weeks ago in a press release. EA did during their big press event, Nintendo has been confirming titles here and there.. etc.
Gamecube was faster than the PS2. It had other hardware shortcomings like lack of DVD, HDD or NIC, but in terms of power it was the more capable machine.
Did you play the same GTA everyone else did? What was so difficult about the controls? Target, shoot, then cycle through your enemies with the L,R buttons until they were all dead. (Gee, just like Z-targeting in OOT) Not only was it trivial to kill a dozen enemies without trouble, it was almost too easy - which is a common complaint.
Can you elaborate on how you found it difficult to play with the controls as is?
I'm not really following your price comparisons. Advance Wars DS does not cost the same as Oblivion, it's almost half the price, $35 vs $60.
Your point about downloadable game I agree with though, they better be cheap, especially if they are straight ports.
Finally, I'm getting sick of the argument that X costs more than Y because "X has better hardware/more features". I don't care one bit what it costs to make something, if the feature does not have value to me, I don't want to pay for it. That is something Sony does not understand. I won't be buying a PS3 because it has Blu-Ray, I will buy it IF there are games I want to play. The fact it has Blu-Ray holds no value for me.
ProPalms TSE server is definitely a viable alternative to Citrix. I have been using it for about three years and even though the product has changed owners a few times - NewMoon to Tarantella who got bought by Sun who sold the product to ProPalms - the product has been performing great all along, with every feature you listed.
It functions using a client that extends Microsoft's RDP protocol, allowing for seamless publishing of apps from multiple load balanced app servers. The backend servers compromise various roles and support load balancing and a gateway server in addition to the app server functionality.
- Google Groups doesn't sound like a business website. That's "bad" from a management perspective.
- SMTP blocking would not be needed if users didn't keep clicking on emails from the "FBI" "CIA" , etc. Besides that, it's easy to configure an AV policy to exempt legitimage SMTP usage.
- Updates can and should be applied automatically and without user intervention. If a reboot is required a nightly shutdown policy will suffice.
I'd love to live in a happy land where all computers can be open and free but unfortunately malicious crackers, crappy programming and ignorant users have made that an impossibility these days.
What wires does he have to connect? The dock provides power and a line out jack. I presume the dock is hard wired into his head unit, so all he's got to do is drop it in the dock.
I've been wanting to do this for my car but I lack the creativity and ability. I've tried the iTrip too, wasn't impressed unless in the middle of nowhere.
It's an open loop system, presumably to save mass.

Ask them to talk about the mistakes they've made or project failures they've been a part of.
If they claim it's never happened, or it wasn't their fault, etc, then they probably are lying or stupid.
If they can explain the failure, why it happened and how they've avoided the same thing in subsequent projects you've probably got a good one.
The junk is far more likely to damage new or existing satellites than any African villager.
There are 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't.

In short, I've become an old man.
I want a simple RTS that I can play with my friends locally.
One screen a map, the other for unit/building management. Toggle the screens to switch between movement and management.
Or just port Starcaft as someone already mentioned.
No, it's not just a pointing device. How would any of the Wii Sports games work if it all you could do was point at the screen?

I could stomp you 3 times in 15 minutes in Starcraft. ;)
Was there some special reason I was able to read the article without registering then?
What the kind of ISP do you people have that you're worried about half a dozen computers downloading a few megs of data each night?

Actually I was totally stoked to see them using cel-shading again and it was one of the first things I noticed on the trailer.
Wind Waker's art was awesome and inspired. I can't say the same about Twilight Princess unfortunately.

The MS Word equivalent is "Reveal Formatting". Shows what styles are applied to your selection, etc..
