oh, ubuntu? hmmm for a minute there i thought you were a windows user:P~
Having learned pretty much bsd by myself, i never had a problem installing nor getting x86 up and going. Even adding different WM was always easy. Back in the day you HAD to specify either through editing or using a crappy conf generator that never quite had the options i needed. Since then it's pretty much all automatic. It helps i don't have all that crappy "built in hardware" since that's what gives the most problems. But i really don't understand why everyone complains to be honest. If you want ez go windows. If you want to be trendy go ubuntu. If you want to be bad ass go bsd:P
But then again i guess i'm biased! I don't quite remember when i last installed fbsd. I know it's a 6.x stable. But i'm pretty sure i was able to set kde as my default wm before install was finished as i booted to it after a console login. suse is alright i guess because it looks like windows. But why do i want to boot to windows every time? Console suits me just fine and is a good power saver on my POS vaio note book.
I've actually always found linux hard to use. Slackware wasn't so user friendly to me and mandrake was horrible, but easy to install. red hat and debian were pretty bad ass, but then debian died??? what happened there. I gave up and ended up runnning suse on my laptop as a test linux os. I do like tux racer though, it's pretty fun!
That's interesting... being that I live in California, i have to have a California exhaust on my bike. The same model sold in other states have different exhausts with more pollution. But not mine!
That's actually the reason no dealer will put an after market exhaust on my bike because of state clean air regulations. Now a custom shop doesn't give a fook and they'll slap anything on including straight pipes. Now i don't want straight pipes because unlike other "bikers" (weekend warriors) i ride my bike everyday and don't want to go deaf in one ear.
I'm sure the #'s also don't represent the 6 or so other states who have strict air pollution regulations like California. So maybe in Texas bikes pollute more, but not in California... especially the 45 miles per GALLON sport bikes! lol
No one disagrees that riding a bike or motorcycle is more dangerous than being in a car, but realistically, you can't just look at numbers...
But what it really comes down to is rider awareness. I've been riding motorcycles full time for many years now, and yes i've had many close calls. I've played bumper cars between two trucks (my fault!) and been run of the road more than once by cars and blown off the freeway because of winds. But i haven't "crashed" because i've been aware or as aware as i could be at all times. I should have been hamburger meat by now but because of my awareness i've been ok so far.
The same goes for people in a car. If you feel safe in a car then you'll be safe on a bike. If you're a retard like that receptionist here at work (yes you have one too) then you're not safe even being a passenger on a bus! She crashes about as often as that time of the month!
while i agree that it isn't always their fault, i'm pretty confident it's mostly their fault.
I've mentioned before that i worked for a bank. They had THEE worst computer system. It didn't work right and the end of say was always off! But the next day everything was ok! hahaha
Anyways, as some may recall me saying to the assistant manager, "this computer system has a lot of bugs" and she said "what would you know about computers?" hahaha yes!
So eventually this bank closed down! I don't know when nor why. But being the worlds 3rd largest bank in the world at the time... closing down in los angeles can't be something you brush under the corporate rug.
Interestingly now, i work in another bank but as a contractor this time. They run a windows only environment. Its a POS but it has lots of security, not that it works all the time, but it's better than what i had to work with as a teller!
why not make it a conveyor type action instead of a ball screw action? You know, like the type they had in super mario bro's! On world 1-2. Oh snap, that's not real.
BUt, you could have it like a conveyor and when the weight gets to the bottom you could hear a beep and you walk over and add it to the top! i think that would be fabulous!!
brb let me patent that so i can sue somebody in 20 years!
how long before the home gym captures energy for your home.
Never:-)
Humans can not produce large amounts of sustained output power, even when exercising. A "healthy human" can probably push out 300W for about 20 minutes before they collapse from exhaustion.
Dude, didn't you see the superbowl pre-game show on fox???? They had a herd of people on exercise bikes power the show for half an hour! That's lights, transmission, cameras and action hahaha (ok not action). but i think that's the point, if you have enough people generating energy, then you can have takers and givers at all time without running out. Sure you can only take, but so could everyone else and it doesn't work. Wait a min... this sounds like communism!
But didn't everyone agree many years ago it was simply the o-ring that failed... as it had many times in testing... as it kept failing... because of crappy building materials and poor design?
i'm really sad i missed the big debate here but this is old news isn't it? What new light has been shed? We have footage of nasa testing the booster rockets blowing up on their sleds because of the o-rings. I don't recall having heard that the weather played a part, but the ports freezing up and failing o-rings was pretty much a constant throughout all ideas put on the table.
is TFA worth my time or have i picked up enough with comments alone?
one poster said it was about pressure from many sources -- they're right. Because of time lines, budget constraints and bad managerial choices the challenger happened. I hope they have learned enough to not repeat that... which is probably why they're returning to Apollo style rockets (which is retardeddedededded)
I haven't seen any pictures, but the short circuit robot- johnny 5 alive - paints a hideous picture! I mean, just think about it! You're at home with your wife/"gf" and you get romantic. Do you really want this thing watching you? Wouldn't that freak you out if it has a "quizzical" or "curious/interested" face/expression?
What if it can eventually follow you around? When you come out of the bathroom after eating chili it's like, "what happened in there?" You know what i mean? I dunno if i'd want one of those bastards around me! Whatever happened to that japanese sony dog that was "like a real dog?" Can't i just get one of those instead, at least i can play with it and not get freaked out!
the AC answered you in one way, i'll answer in another! The problem is that there's too many racists! You see, all the white people would shoot the non-white people! A lot of people will be huff and puff and say "that's racist of YOU." but it's the truth =(
There's a reason "the south" has a reputation you know! That's why canada is so nice! All the tolerant people moved there when given the choice!
Why am i always yelling!? lol
anyways, if you want a good representation of "who believes in gun rights," check out who represent the NRA (National Rifle Association) and then compare them to those to represent "gun control."
We've already covered this a while back! I answered the same thing then that i'm going to now:
Make everyone wear slippers and hospital gowns. Everything has to be checked in when at the counter except a neck pocket which holds ID, tickets, cash, passport and little other items. If you need medicine or anything else, you could get a little bucket-box that can hold medicine or other crap you "need" to have on the plane.
Really we're making this harder than it is. Hire people at good rates of $$ and tell them lots of people want their job. They'll catch everything once they see the turn over rate sky high because of poor performance. The $$ is their motivation to do well.
one day we'll have the technology to walk through a check point with all kinds of crap and it'll know if we've taken a shower, but until then the retards will keep ruining our day by trying to take nail clippers or eye brow pluckers when they are not allowed.
Reading through the posts it seems that some people swear by some websites, and others apparently swear at them! It just depends on how much time you invest and if you have some luck on your side.
Here's 2 examples i tried (the only two =( )
Some new dating website my buddy found. He, myself and a bunch of other irc friends signed up. I think i put the most honest ad, "looking for a friend!" Well guess what, no one contacted me hahaha. But my buddy who said "i want to have fun with you" was hit up so much it was ridiculous! This is when i learned that nice guys usually do finish last!
I wanted to get back into roller blading and since i was living in a new town i didn't know what was up! So i go to an exercise web site and sign up. I describe myself (honestly) and guess what, not 1 person was interested! hahaha!
Sure, maybe i'm hideous but my looks or physical appearance doesn't seem to be a problem in person. Maybe it's my personality? I get along with everyone. Hmm, maybe it's just that my profile isn't what people are looking for. Either way it's pretty weird (to me at least).
At least on the exercise web site 1 person voted me 5/5 stars for nice smile! lol
Oh also worth noting, a person who i'm no longer friends with (that rat bastard!) ended up using craigs list successfully. But i think it was a problem because the intimate encounters ended up wasting all his money! He was single and traveling for work so everywhere he went he had "a hook up." I'm sure some of you nerds might think that's a good thing, but i dunno, kinda sad how it's worked out for him. But then again i am a Catholic! Maybe a hater? hahaha
You shouldn't talk of things about which you are ignorant.
There almost certainly was a historical Buddha. There is far more evidence for this, from independent sources, than for (e.g.) Socrates.
And FYI, the Buddha never said he was anything but a normal man. In fact, he stated again and again that he was just that -- not some kind of a God or superbeing.
huh? can you please try to explain how there is more evidence for buddha than there is for socrates???
From wikipedia about buddha
Siddhrtha Gautama (Sanskrit; Pali: Siddhattha Gotama) was a spiritual teacher from ancient India and the founder of Buddhism.[1] He is generally recognized by Buddhists as the Supreme Buddha (Sammsambuddha) of our age. The time of his birth and death are uncertain: most early 20th-century historians date his lifetime from circa 563 BCE to 483 BCE; more recently, however, at a specialist symposium on this question,[2] the majority of those scholars who presented definite opinions gave dates within 20 years either side of 400 BCE for the Buddha's death, with others supporting earlier or later dates. from wikipedia about socrates
Socrates (Greek: c. 470 BCE-399 BCE), of the deme Alopece of Athens, was a Classical Greek philosopher. He is best known for the creation of Socratic irony and the Socratic Method, or elenchus. Specifically, Socrates is renowned for developing the practice of a philosophical type of pedagogy, in which the teacher asks questions of the students to elicit the best answer, and fundamental insight, on the part of the student.
And if you talk about independent sources Socrates is well known. Although he fortunately never wrote anything (which added to his mystic), he is well remembered through MANY people. The reason we have "academy" is because of one of his students who opened the school on the hill! This is all thanks to Socrates who was the inspiration of the place of learning for teaching virtues to people so they could govern better!
I'm not a troll (some say i'm decent looking!) but I have only seen 1 iPhone in Pasadena, CA. The one I saw was by mere chance when someone went into the mail room and someone else asked how they liked their phone. The i was like hmmmmmm but that's about it. This person did mention she waited in line over night to buy it and that she didn't regret the price or the wait, although this was before they mentioned the apple store credit.
I myself have an HTC ppc-6800 and am loving it! I like the fact that i can do what ever i want on it, including running old palm applications from my old kyocera smartphone! But what matters is what i always say, whatever works for you is the best thing for you.
I've heard others state that they can hear the LCD's whine as well. On newegg, in the product reviews you can find some people attribute this to defective units and they usually send them back. I have 3 lcd panels in my home now, 1 monitor by hans-g (with the obligatory 1 dead pixel out of the way though) and 2 tvs (one no namer symphonic and a audiovox). They are extremely quiet, no discernible operating noise.
The only tv i'd like to replace now is my kitchen tv which is an extremely old tube magnavox. It's picture is as good as it gets with "SDTV" and it's played many hours of good video games and vhs cassettes. But i just feel bad throwing it out after so many years of faithful and consistent service. It's like laying off the 80 year old after 50 years of excellent service! On one hand its very reliable, but on the other it lacks all connections but "antenna in." Maybe i'll just put it away for sentimental/nostalgic value!
Well in that program, they said "that the connections are like straws. The outside has a coating, and the inside is like the meat. When the outside coating wears out or wears thin, then it starts to slowly lose it's ability to transmit information." If it's severed, then of course no information can be transmitted right? But, if the connection exists, i presume that over time it could be re-coated and connectivity re-established.
Like i said, i'm all for anything that'll work at this point! Namenda is doing pretty good! But she still gets squirrelly from time to time.
Yes, you know who you are! You who on the news groups said that "what they did in the matrix is not feasible and never will be because you could never extract enough heat from a human to power anything!"
I've been waiting for this for a long time! >
But this is pretty cool. I think if it holds true that it has micro applications, we can have an excess of power! you can easily mount these bad boys on scooters, roller blades and other forms of transportation!
Well, that is different from my understanding of the disease. I saw a program on PBS called "Brain Fitness" and they talk about a lot of things related to the brain. They touch in Alzheimer's and what the internal physical effects are.
It's hard to believe that a degenerative disease can be corrected almost instantly. They talked about the connection between different cells and the multiple connections to those cells with other cells that give people the ability to put ideas together. They said that when those connections physically weaken, then the memories start to "fade."
I'm curious as to how this drug accomplishes having cells communicate once again even though their paths are no longer viable for transmitting information.
Although i'm a skeptic on this drug, if it works i'll give it to my grandma! Maybe it'll keep her from waking up in the middle of the night and asking if the chicken is ready!
There is a visible laser used for testing fibers out in the field. You plug it in on one end, and over the phone ask if it's seen on the other end. It's not as strong as the actual laser that is used for transmitting data.
I think this is actually really easy having used this method at the head terminal where you just uncover the fibers and see where the light comes out using a paper.
Don't try this at home kids!

I agree. I asked a friend about manipulating magnetic fields for an idea i have. He directed me to a page that talks about securing terminals and their monitors/hardware from espionage. I was like WTF does that have to do with what i want.
Well, i learned from that that you can steal a monitors output and slap it right on your own monitor using the radiation it puts out! That is also where i learned that OLD TV sets at home had lead in their glass to protect viewers from the constant radiation. Although it's debatable, the idea is that as long as you are in front of the tv, you'll be ok. But if you're working next to it, not so much!
As a guitarist i also find value in knowing about tubes and their differences against solid state. I also agree that it's important to understand how we got to where we are at. Imagine in 500 years the music they consider pop is nothing like we have today. And when they want to play some "classical" music, they'll need to have the instruments and equipment necessary. If we just move on with the new and discard/forget the old that won't be possible! boo
I bring up my fav anime again, Ghost in the Shell. They have "secure data centers" which are in fact on boats or man made islands of boats. It's interesting because they are owned by private corporations right, and they do have the ability to float to more friendly environments if need be.
Thinking about what you said, forget about china but place US customers hosting on these ships, maybe some vocal about US citizens' rights and it could be a target someday. Float away to a less hostile environment, plug in and you're back in business.
It seems i might have a novice idea here folks. Remove x-ray machines and metal detectors, and increase "man power." Bare with me a minute!
My experience has been this:
Show up at air port "on time" for international flights. Since i like to get the most "bang for my buck," I like to show up early to take advantage of all the time i can on my trip. Turns our airline staff doesn't show up 3 hours before international flights at 4 AM, they open 1 hour before the first international flight. But that's ok.
Then i head right over to the gate, and go through security. Security is still sleepy for whatever reason right (after all it is early!). They ask me to 'standard procedure etc etc' and i cooperate. They ask to remove my laptop from the case and i do. They ask "does this open?" pointing to the side bays and i say yes. They can't seem to figure it out and just skip it and continue. After glancing at it for maybe 7 seconds they instruct me to put it away.
I ask if i should take off my shoes and they say it's not necessary. Even though the sign in front of me says i am to take off my shoes.
I pass the metal detector with watch, keys, misc pocket items and wallet in the dish and surprise! No problems.
I get my laptop, carry on and person items and proceed to the boarding gate.
This is how it's gone for more than one of my flights. The scary part is i carry a spyder co knife that is 5 1/4" closed and 9 1/2" opened. This neatly fits in my wallet without adding any bulk and is even easily concealable in the wallet under a dollar or two. But since no one questions wallets then there can't be an issue.
How many times have "random security checks" been conducted to find them failing to identify any items on contraband lists?
Increase how many people inspect each passenger, have 1 person check the physical person, another their belongings, and another run it through existing x-ray machines just for looks. Because no matter how much technology you throw at this problem, people will always fail when they rely on senses other than their own.
It's really scary too that when you rely on technology, that many things that are not looked for will get through. Having a engineering/manufacturing background i can think of many dangerous things to get on board without being spotted. And although the "dangerous" people might not be aware of them, with enough time they'll have similar things at their disposal.
So, summing up what will actually increase security:
more people
better wages
multiple inspectors (1 gets overwhelmed very easily)
you know, it really depends on 2 things i think, what you look like and your attitude. My buddies who are "white/native american" tell me, "when i cross the border i tell them 'you work for me, i pay your salary!' hahaha no really! they do! And since they're tall with reddish/light brown/blond hair, blue eyes and fairly pale (white) they can get away with it.
So having that in mind, i tried it too! hahaha when i came back from mexico, i was grilled. i gave the guy attitude and he started asking me retarded questions such as, what elementary school did you go to. So, like i said, keeping in mind what my buddy said, i broke it down: school, street, city, zip code, county and other useless info. Yeah it might have seemed to him i was being a dick, but he was like alright welcome back. All this because i surely don't look "american" especially from a flight from mexico.
So i really think #1 appearance matters and #2 your attitude will make or break you. I've seen other legals crossing through customs and get grilled because they are timid and scared, which makes no sense! But anyhow, i've never been held up too much because i just get an attitude knowing that they can't do anything worse than waste my time.
hmm now you got me thinking with your post. if it could be made transparent, it would really have many many useful applications. I agree that making a feedback-touchscreen would be great, but even for blind people this would be bad ass!
I wonder what the limits of this are? Could it produce a 3-d imagine if it were on a monitor? that'd be bad ass too!
oh, ubuntu? hmmm for a minute there i thought you were a windows user :P~
:P

Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea!
I hope i get it!
you know, it really depends on 2 things i think, what you look like and your attitude.
