And just yesterday there was the article about Bungie's Marathon being released 10 years ago. In 10 years, they've gone from releasing incredibly innovative games that remain classic for a decade, to rehashing a sequel to a second-rate game that is only appreciated by new 'gamers' who have never played anything else.
I think the distributions of Nethack usually come with both a window/tiled version and the classic ASCII version. I usually use the Windows version of NH (which comes with two separate executables, nethack.exe and nethackw.exe, I think), but I've also ran the FreeBSD port, and I think there were actually separate ports you could install, either the command line version or the windowed version.
So... not sure how it works for Linux.:) But the ASCII version is still out there.
I've never read any of her books, but I had always meant to get around to it. After reading her whiny rant about race on Slate, I no longer have any desire to read anything by her. If things like that are what she considers the "important" parts of her books, I can't see them being good.
That's because the "Tom Clancy's" novels only vaguely involve him... he came up with some plot ideas, and someone else actually wrote the book (someone else who might get their name on the cover, in small type). I like a lot of Clancy's novels (the ones he actually wrote, I mean), but the "Clancy's" books are basically just to cash in on the name.
That the part has held on for so long, past the introduction of the Pentium III and the P4, is a sign of its appeal to manufacturers of embedded systems for which high clock speeds and commensurately high power consumption and heat dissipation figures are a problem.
"Pent" is based on the Greek prefix, which include "tetra", "penta", "hexa", and "hepta". "Sex" is from Latin, which include "quad(ri)" "quint" (or "quinque"), "sexa" and "septa".
So, the logical next step after Pentium would be Hexium, not Sexium.
If a very graphic war video were shown on TV where Iraqis got blown apart by American bombs, I bet my life savings that the fundie bible beaters wouldn't object at all.
Did you *completely* miss all the furor over "Saving Private Ryan" last month?
I used to MUD back in the day, and loved it.. but over the past 5 years or more I just rarely bother to play online games with people I don't already know, because, well, online gamers tend to either be a) 14 years old, or b) just act like it.
I've been intrigued by the MMORPG concept, but never really ventured in, but WoW is really tempting me, if only because I love Blizzard. I'm just wondering if there's any chance that this game won't lend further proof to the Internet Fuckwad Theory.
Not THAT much has changed since the original Doom, all FPSs are still the same basic game.
If you're going to say that, then you need to go back to Wolf3D.
(that is, if you're going to say Quake is the same game as Doom, then Doom is also the same game as Wolf3D)

R.I.P. Bungie.
Scion is just a division of Toyota. Saturn is a division of GM. I think Geo is a division of something too.
:)
And Kia sucks, but then, they're successful at it, so, hey, good for them. I only wish I could make $millions by selling plastic death traps.
But, yes, I still agree with your point.
When fins brush by your heel
That's not just an eel..
That's a moray.
I wonder how many Volkswagens that is.
What's the conversion factor of Volkswagens to Boston?
What's up with Michael's "rated-X-for-SomethingThatStartsWithX" dept. lines today?

I've only been playing for a few years, but Nethack has become one of my favorite games.
:)
Here's hoping for a new release soon.
Sierra Online was the name of the company.. their dial-up game service thing was alternately "The Imagination Network" or "The Sierra Network".
:)
God, were my parents pissed when we got the first bill from THAT. Ha. So our subscription lasted about a month.
It would be nice if the meek inherited the Earth; seeing as the stupid have it at the moment.

At some point, the game will end, leaving a bunch of folks with nothing in return for their hard earned dollars.
Hey, if it's good enough for the government....
I paid for the D2 expansion pack by selling a sword or something that I found.
Seriously, though, this is a good thing. I am really being tempted to buy WoW, though I've never bought an MMORPG before.
You can't metro to the mall, or anywhere at all in Tysons or McLean.
Anyway, I work in McLean, and live in Falls Church.. it's like a 10 minute drive.
I don't even know where Latvia is!!
:)
So apparently we're pretty low on geography, then, too?
The author of TFA knows:

without an internet connection
You're scaring me here! Surely that's not possible?!
They're also called voters.
Yeah, fortunately the morons didn't win this time.
did I mention she's collected 65 gigs of ripped MP3s by borrowing CDs from the library
Hi, we'll be coming after your mom shortly. Thanks!

I used to use Thunderbird, but now I just use Gmail for everything personal (we're stuck on Lookout for work).
I suppose if I needed a mail client I would still use Thunderbird though.

Feel free to send me your life's savings.
I think the topic begs great big questions like... ...(you fill in the blank)
They'd learn what "begs the question" actually means?
