Consider it from the other side: why doesn't the world convert to Impirial Units? I'm sure no country wants to incur the cost of converting everything to another system.
Every other country has already incurred this cost. We're waiting on you!
I agree that trying to show politicians "misbehaving" is counter-productive. Kevin Rudd got drunk and went to a strip club not long before he became PM. It hasn't hurt his career and if anything gave him a slight boost in the polls when that revelation came out.
I think your sting example with the car is effectively criminalising curiosity. Also the couple's intention should have factored into sentencing... Madness!
My bible says nothing about pornography (If I'm wrong, please correct me).
I think you're wrong on this. It's not stated explicitly, but:
Paul says "Amongst you there must not even be a hint of sexual immorality" - Ephesians
Jesus said, "If you even look at a woman lustfully you have committed adultery in your heart" - Matthew
I heard a sermon where the preacher said that the Ancient Greek word for fornication was "Porneia". The passage in question was saying not to do that
I agree that people shouldn't try and enforce their moral standards on others. If a person decides that porn is bad, that is their decision and it's not their place to try and force others into that morality. I have a problem in particular with conservative Christians trying to force their morality on non-Christians. Doing this goes against their own doctrine - the important point in the gospel isn't the moral code, it's belief in Jesus.
Engineering a solution is a much worse idea than trying to cut emissions. Scientists have tried that before and there are almost always unintended consequences. See: Cane Toads being introduced into Australia.
I agree with you that giving money to dictators in 3rd world countries could have unintended consequences and is likely a bad idea. I disagree with the do nothing approach too.
And now we're back to needing to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels at home.
I have a good example of the lack of shareholder power in the whole process. In Australia the shareholders voted on executive salary at Telstra. The vote passed with a clear majority saying the execs were getting paid too much, could they please adjust their pay rates down to a more acceptable level. It turns out the vote was non-binding so the board flipped the bird to the shareholders and paid themselves their over-inflated salaries anyway.
Dynamic range compression is only used by songs that are expecting to get on the charts: pop, rock, rap etc. Also some "digitally remastered" albums of old bands will be compressed so they sound as loud as the newer stuff.
My church managed to screen the Soccer World Cup 2006 final without asking for donations. There wasn't even any implicit "you will donate if you attend" or a box near the door or anything. The offering is taken up at normal Sunday services, so why would they have their hand out at a social event?
You're comparing apples and oranges (pardon the pun). In all your examples Flash is downloading content from the web over wireless. In all your non-flash examples you're loading from the hard disk. Hammering your wireless connection will chew battery power. To do a fair comparison you would need to compare streaming flash and streaming a non-flash video of similar size.
It wasn't the removal of massive ship battles that killed MOO3. It was everything being automated by AI. One of my friends started a game and just kept clicking next turn. After a while he won the game (got voted president or something?).
The average age of the Aussie gamer is around 30. So he's equally scared of the 50% of gamers who are over 30!

Good thing I don't read the article!
You may not know this, but Australia's PM changed back in 2007. The new guy is a nerd who's good mates with Obama.
How many government beaurocrats use CAD? For the handful that do you could still give them windows machines and switch everyone else.
There has to be an election some time this year.
Come back in 2011 when the comparison will be switching to OSS costs vs. 3 years of upgrades, support & licensing for closed source.
Ah, episodic gaming. You get to pay full price for a fraction of the game.

There is an artistic exemption in Australia. The judge must have decided in the Simpsons case that the exemption didn't apply (no artistic value?).
I agree with the rest of your post, in particular that banning A cups is bloody stupid.

That's no dune!
Wow, asking a question is now flamebait? Moderate the post, not the poster and -1 doesn't mean you disagree with the post...
A counter-example: in the movie "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" the good was a sniper.

She could run away. I think she'd win that race given the weights of attacker and victim you just listed.

You don't need to write *nerdalert* at the start of a nerd joke. This is /. *nerdalert* is implicit for all posts.
On the other hand, if you're going to comment with a sporting analogy a *jockalert* at the start of the comment would be a good idea.
Welcome to Slashdot. You should fit in well here.
I don't have a chair thanks to cost cutting you insensitive clod!
Why do you want his uid? I class low uids as those with 4 digits or less. ~900,000 isn't that impressive.
