I didn't RTFA, but just by reading the headlines I know that these developers are dediacated...
They moved so they could develop their product. I don't know about you all, but I'd have a hard time justifying just picking up my life and leaving somewhere else because the RIAA sent me a threatening letter and has jurisdiction in my country...
It's not that they can't file claims without using IE... they just can't do it online. If you've ever tried programming javascript for client side error checking of complex forms, you know that standards are very non-existant in the internet world. I completely understand why they would only want people using IE to register, especially if they didn't have much of a tech support staff. It's near impossible to cater a web app to every single flavor of every browser for every OS.
why?!?!? What a bunch of fools. There's not a whole lot you can't accomplish with a windows interface (as far as data processing) that you can't with a web interface.
Although you have a valid point, this dosen't apply to only popups - you are missing the full scope of this argument by Doubleclick.
I don't think that you quite understand the significance that AdBlock provides for FireFox functionality
Right now I'm browsing slashdot ad-free (No, i'm not a subscriber) because of this this tool. All you have to do is right click the image and block the entire domain (the server/directory serving the ad-images) and all of the ads on a site magically vanish.
This is very comprable to newspapers since the ad is inline with the content, not like popups where they're annoying and obtrusive. The fact is, AdBlock makes it possible to read a newspaper with the Ad's just completely gone, only the newspaper is the internet.
It should be noted that these aren't actually video files, rather shockwave flash objects embedded in HTML.. not exactly something that you torrent. They're not all that large either way.
I'm not sure if parent is being sarcastic or not, but the $10 fee lowtax charges to post on the SA forums is a wonderful idea. It brings the community more together, having all willingly paid the fee. We pay because we want to be a part of the community, and god damnit it's a great source of entertainment. Where else can you find posts about poopsocks?
If you're going to propose that this is a bad idea and there are much safer ways to do this, you'd better back up your statement...
Even those things you mentioned above (email, im) seem just plain silly because the medium you're talking through requires delay.. on the phone you actually hear the person you're talking to on the other side.
My personal experience with windows is that XP has failed the least amount of times, and Win2k the most (I never used Win NT... i used win98 which failed even more times than 2k)
For those that don't have any idea what this post's parent is talking about:
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjE0
An article on the (ridiculous) power requirements of the new nVidia cards. If I had mod points, i would mod parent up.
Not even the poster can RTFA... they make DRE machines (Digital Recording Electronic).. not DRM. When I first looked at the article post, I thought: "oh great, now the MPAA/RIAA has sway in voting machines too?"
People don't buy Tivo's only because they don't want to see commercials, they also buy it so they can watch shows without the hassle of programming their VCR and worrying about whether the tape is set right inside of it (Think a few button clicks on the tivo remote vs. a long string of button and number pushing on the vcr remote).
Saying that the reason people buy Tivo is only to avoid commercials is not correct.
i actually found myself clicking a google ad-link today... funny you mention "that they actually work". It must have been the first Advertisment on a webpage i've clicked in a long time.
The first thing that came to mind was modding the PS2 to play DVD-R games. Nothing better than hackin' up the PS2 to be able to own all games for $50 (chip) + $1/game for media
Is it just me or haven't you been able to boot from the Mac OS CDs for years? I even remember Norton Utilities for Mac booting into its own Mac OS that ran from the CD. I'm actually surprised that Windows hasn't implemented this feature, because back in my Mac days, it saved me from having to format my hard disk quite a few number of times.

I think the amount of comments on each story is a good indicatino of what people are interested in as well.

You have clearly never purchased an iPod. iPods come in that warpping you mentioned with the text "Don't steal music" written on it.

Once again, something that Something Awful (at least their forum archives) has already been doing. Nothing new here.

I honestly hope you're not serious.

i guess the users that bought the tivo's with the dvd-burner don't really have to give a flying hoot.

But they already ARE integrated into motion-media content! Haven't you seen Wayne's World? =)

I call BS. If the Athlon XP is old school than my 1.4 ghz Athlon T-Bird is Ancient Lore =)

yeah but you're going to pay money to go see the movie when it comes out... so their plan is essentially going to work
unfortunately, the voice of Troy McClure is dead... and for that I get to call you an insensitive clod.
