Uhhhh.. I'm not sure what program you're using, but I've never had crash problems with myHTPC crashing. Now, some of the plugins, I've had trouble with before.. but using the newest version plugins It's been rock stable for me. Certainly, if you don't have a windows copy already then you'll have to spend money.. but really, although we like to scorn it here, I'm going to have to say.. most people here still at least have a copy of the OS./me waits for original poster to retort about myHTPC crashing all the time
Umm, we're not talking about rescaling 480i input. Almost no new DVD movies, if any, are not progressive video at this point. Usually only first-gen movies are interlaced. As far as quality.. no, you're not adding detail, but when you change the resolution of a video-game you're not really changing the LoD either, but in general it makes the game look better. The filters ffdshow uses are quite impressive as far as video processing, so I believe, from what I've seen, that it comes damn close to HD quality.
Why bother re-buying your DVD collection to get the high-res movies, when you can use ffdshow filters to resize the video, remove grain, smooth, etc, which if you set the options correctly can make the video look basically as good as 1080i, from 720x480p source. Keep in mind, though, that you'll need a HTPC system with component out, or DVI to be able to take advantage of this, also it takes a crapload of CPU time, but it's well worth it.
One thing that should have been obvious to the guy writing the story.. is that the security around high-profile areas is intentionally lax looking. Basically on sensitive areas they have perimeter monitoring equipment, the entrance and exits to the locations have setups the weigh you, and won't let you in if there's a couple pound difference... and the supposed lack of guards isn't true. The second the perimeter is breached armed men will indeed come out and probably shoot you on the spot.
Well this makes the quote that Bill Gates said they couldn't be a monopoly because they weren't in the game console market as well, even more funny...

Itanium Problems

You state that Apple might be a potential buyer for the Itanic..... well there's a couple problems with that. All the jokes made about how AMD procs are hot, are NOTHING compared to the Itanium. Literally, you can cook an egg on the things. Apple is commonly known for having systems with low(er) power requirements, and low heat output. If you stick a HUGE chip in an apple system, you've suddenly lost both of these. I doubt Apple is doing anything more than laughing at the Itanium.
Yes, it was 'fake'. It was using Exluna's Entropy renderer. It's great software, but sadly current computer graphics hardware is nowhere near reaching the quality of output programs like Entropy are capable of.
First, the emulation is VERY VERY VERY slow, at least when I tried it. Two, it's very simple to find the roms, but I'm not about to say how. All I know is google is your friend.
From the initial description it sounds like it's a Zaurus ripoff. If you want another PDA, I can recommend the Zaurus, don't know why you haven't thought about buying one of those to replace your IPaq.
I use Snapstream myself.. and I must say that it's one of the greater programs I've used. I think the best part of it has to be the streaming capabilities. Now if only DivX worked for a streaming codec.
That's actually a really good point. Someone mod this up. That's the exact type of thing Hollywood would do just so they don't have to take any REAL chances.
*cough* SPAM *cough* That aside, I've never really had any problems selling anything on ebay for that bad of prices. Heck, there's a guy on ebay that literally just sells stuff he uses throughout the day... bottles, socks.. whatever.
I like A/V equipment from Philips. Anything I've ever owned made by them is usually good quality. They have always seemed like a cool company and they're a UK company primarily. Its good to hear that they're still a good company by telling the RIAA and music companies to go f' themselves.
Well, I just got a great idea. I think I would MUCH rather have an MMORPG set in the Chrono Trigger/Cross world, than in the FF world. Why? Well, I still think these are the best RPG's to ever come out of Square. Most people think that at least Chrono Trigger is one of the best RPG's ever made. Who can blame them... great music, good graphics for it's time, innovative battle system, amazing storyline and multiple endings. The way it would transmute into a good MMORPG would be as such: Since one of the main elements of the Chrono games was time travel, the world could be limited to like one specific region or such, but you could travel to multiple times. Why have "made up" races for different regions when you can have races/beings from different time periods. A storyline could easily be made which would lend itself to an MMORPG universe as well. What would be even cooler, but I don't know how well it could be implemented, would be that things in the games could be dynamically updated due to things people in different time periods would do. For instance.. you destroy a certain monster (possibly with help from like a hundred people in that time period or such) and there's an open cave entrance in the time period after that one... I think it would work well and I know for damn sure at least one person (me) would play the hell out of it. I would kill (almost literally) for a game like this. Hmm, maybe I should make something myself:).
The only way you'll see this doing well, is if Square makes it accessible to everyone, which would mean porting it to competing consoles. So far we know almost for certain that it should be coming out for the X-Box as well, but for the Gamecube it's only a rumor. Due to what Nintendo did just a few months ago when Square tried to apologize... Who knows if Square even got a dev kit yet. Overall, I don't know how Square's first foray into online gaming is going to be. Should be interesting, but the key is to get it to a wide enough audience.

Umm, since monsanto basically was the main producer of agent orange and thousands of other "wonderful" chemicals, this comes as no surprise. I'm not sure how they're still allowed to stay in business seeing as how they have a blatent disregard not just for humans, but everything.
The funny thing about South Park, is that they're actually using "3d" software to create the animation. Last time I checked they were using Alias Wavefront for rendering...
Hmm, I've never heard of this card sound. Is this some sort of new audio technology. I guess that since linux doesn't support it either it's no wonder Hurd doesn't support it.............
Actually, from what I've seen the bias is quite the opposite. The Slashdot bias seems directed at the PS2. As for the GC crashes, I'd like to know in which games and where. I've had literally no problems with mine, and most of the people who have a gamecube or use mine like the feel of the controllers, yet make fun of the X-Box controllers for feeling like a pumpkin.
Hahahahaha, that's funny. Well, you see, disregarding all of the truly fun games that are/will be on the gamecube, if you want a game that will scare you then you need look no further than games like Resident Evil or Eternal Darkness. These are both not kiddie games, and both ONLY for the gamecube. On the other hand, if you want to play truly innovative and fun games then Nintendo is always a winner in my book. The comparison between the number of games on the N64 and PS1 isn't the best, as there might have been a lot of PS1 games, but there were also a HUUUGGE number of crappy non-innovative titles.

Or everyone's favorite..... Cowboy Bebop. There's quite a bit of the old in that show... well, in a way the whole series was about the "old".
