"But anything that really matters (the complete works of Shakespeare, the Beatles, the user's manual for Ultima IV) is going to be saved in multiple places in multiple formats, and it just not going to get lost."
Not so if the Earth gets destroyed. Perhaps a DR site? I think the moon will be a good repository for thumb drives. (Er but don't forget to off-site the USB 2.0 specs too!)
FWIW, I am in Hong Kong and have a 30Mbps DSL subscription. Using the Speakeasy speed test site, I was able to get an average of about 5Mbps download and 1Mbps upload speed. This is testing against US sites (LA, SF, Chicago, NY, Dallas).
I am looking for an excuse to try out Solaris, and I thought of using it as a media server. Can it work well as, say, either a MythTV backend or front end? Or perhaps the better question is, can you run MythTV (or any other similar app) on it at all?
Come to think of it, the VMWare license server runs on Windows (only the ESX hosts themselves utilize Red Hat). Could everything boil down to being MS's fault? Oh how Slashdotters would love that.
1. Acquire a box. 2. Attach an LCD screen + camera on each side of box. 3. Each LCD screen projects images captured by camera on the other side of box. 4. Get into the box. 5. Voila! You are invisible!

ledger's joker is an idea. and ideas are bulletproof.
Intelligence officials now worry that software developed overseas poses another layer of risk because malicious codes or backdoors can be embedded in the software at its creation.
Perhaps now they will see the value in open source:P Although come to think of it, if the US government outsources its software from other countries, isn't it just prudent to demand for the source code, too?
Have you seen I Am Legend? While he may be a mainstay in stupid Michael Bay films, I am convinced he can pull off a convincing science fiction movie lead. And I mean in a character-oriented way, not just being action hero-y and all.
I don't mind if people break into my house
Then I'll be sure to pack some beer with my crowbar!

and i do realize the OP may have meant this as a joke, hence this reply instead of modding him/her down.

And maybe Google Auction can carry over feedback scores from eBay. I hope this is possible/legal?
I agree, this all sounds like utter FUD. Blame Canada? Oh no, blame China!
