Minnesota has 13 coal power plants while North Dakota has 6. Those westerlies you speak of must carry Minnesotan pollution off to somewhere else as well. I may not be qualified to give a lecture of the dynamics here...my guess (no offense) is that you are not either. However, considering that Minnesota has abt 9 times the population of North Dakota, I think it is safe to surmise there is not some disparity in the size or output of those plants in minnesota's favor. But surely, to take umbrage, and imply that Minnesotans and others take harm without adding their share of pollution as well is just silly.
You know, I came across this video a few days back. It does quite a nice job at giving me the urge to wish we could have nation wide elections on the pay and days worked by our oh so lovely representatives.
They can spend an whole day pontificating/blabbering/eulogizing a fellow member or figure....push for new federal boxing oversight (I am looking at you McCain), and tons of other wastes of time, yet they cannot, as pointed out, even be bothered to read the bills they pass, and worse, dont bother to look at what earmarks might have been stuffed in out of the selfish fear that their own earmarks might get cut if they threw a fuss. Disgusting!
On another note, with regard to the parents sig...I would offer this: In explaining any puzzling Washington phenomenon, always choose stupidity over conspiracy, incompetence over cunning. Anything else gives them too much credit. - Charles Krauthammer With all due respect to FDR, I think this one is closer to the truth concerning the political clown car that is congress.
PS. Apologies to all the decent representitives, may God help you all.
A friend and I always heard stories of hypnotizing chickens, and once we decided to experiment on his parents rooster. We went the "hold head and draw X's"route. It did indeed hypnotize the rooster, but when it had not snapped out of it 10 minutes later, we were panicking. We were rolling the thing over, throwing it up in the air (we had to catch it, it was lost in La-La-land and did not try and stop its descent), and tossing it back and forth between us. Finally around the 12 minute mark, it woke up and ran off, much to our relief.
Grandparent is a troll. The post above it that says "more or less the same" thing is speaking of priorities of killing terrorists vs anything else, a debatable position even if one does not agree with it. The GP would seem to state the goal as killing Iraqis in general. Had it said "could kill terrorists" or even 'terrorists' in quotes, THEN it would be saying what the previous post said. As it stands, the best interpretation that can be put on it is that someone is just trying to impel sewage in a circular flow.
Ahhh yes, I cherish particular hatred for those blue lights. Once, in my youthful folly, I got the Netgear router with the light dome that was reminiscent of a flying saucer. I was in college at that time, and ever night I regretted it as my router just happened to come up about to my bed height. Every night felt like I was about to either be abducted by aliens, or sleeping with a poltergeist (yes, it came with a black cap to cover the lights...no it did not really work).
I fail to see why this post is modded insightful (and no, I am not new here...just a bit too idealistic, perhaps).
The issue at hand directly applies to Scientology's status in the US, and should not involve a game of "Your/their religion/Moral Code is worse than mine/yours, nyahhhhhh!"
See I would say that it is more akin to owning a lake that stretches beyond your property into some public area.
In the US (at least) if I own a lake and enough of it protrudes onto another property that someone can get a boat in, they cannot touch my shore, but they have complete free range of the entire lake. And in this analogy, it is easier to secure a wireless access point than the lake.
Its not important that they work...it is important that the governments be seen to be "trying" whether they actually help or not.
In explaining any puzzling [government] phenomenon, always choose stupidity over conspiracy, incompetence over cunning. Anything else gives them too much credit. - Charles Krauthammer, with a slight adjustment for internationalization
It's not about sheeple in terms of bread and circuses.....it is about sheeple in terms of abdicating responsibility to the government. Its not a government distracting a public as much as a public that expects the government mommy to come and see to their needs, be it a gunshot wound or a splinter....and pity the government body who is not perceived to respond well enough. And so basically, people get what they want....in spades. If you willingly cede power, someone will gladly grab it....even if for no other reason that it covers their a$$ well.
And in the past....if people got sick of all this crap, you could go out into the wilderness....and alas, but there is no wilderness left.
You're right, it does seem trollish....and you must not understand the point of the comment....nor the use of the word good in the context in which it was used.
It is not about being defensive, but about the seeming constricting of the definition of accomplishment to something merely material/scientific...that is what bugs me. And I fail to see why "argument" would be necessary since all that was asked was who could be said to accomplish more.
For some reason, in the second part of your post, you take the use of good and seem to twist it into a bit of a straw man for some good ole sniping commentary. I was speaking of motivation, not ambition. A hacker (the type that wears black clothes and sport a handlebar mustache) may want to be the best in terms of ambition, but one would generally find his motivation lacking in the "good" department.
That all depends on your definition of accomplishment, now doesn't it.
Good for him, not trying to dim his glory, but who accomplished more......him, or a person who made sacrifices and gave their life to charity work.....or the person who was just content to be a good worker, good spouse, and/or good parent? Most people worthy of admiring never see the front page of a newspaper.....or even a headline on/.
the ability to leap over tall buildings in a single bound is what it took.......now that's super, man
Also, I am curious, is there some boundary that delimits super vs not? I mean, the term super is always relative to what is common, but where does on place such an arbitrary boundary.
The full implication of what he just said...

Thus says a poster on slashdot...
I am not sure we will ever get to the Butt-head stage.....Honestly, from looking at events in this world right now, it seems like we are in "Brain? Brain? What is Brain?!" mode than anything else.
That's why I said go for whom you THINK will do the best job.....consider it a toss up?...well then, why not roll a die...excepting I am betting most that even you would still have preference toward one of the sea of buffoons that loom large.
you can go out, discard your tin foil hat, stop preaching at people as if everyone who does not agree with you is an idiot or duped, get a good dose of proportion into your cup of reality........and then go for whom the heck you think will do the best job, and voice your concerns with perhaps a touch less alarmism and hyperbole...
...if his middle name start with an E.

We have to send people? Shoot, we don't even have to get near...

I know it was there though, I could hear it breathing.
