Excuse me?
The government did exactly what they had to do. They refused to allow a bunch of over paid people, making as much as 900,000 euros *per year* to take the population hostage (again) by closing all airport operations. Had previous administrations addresses this issue properly we wouldn't have reached this critical situation in the first place.
I'm very very satisfied that they did what they had to.
Airports are a public service that must run at all times, and strikes must be properly notified, services must be working to a minimum rate, and so on.
If you are referring to 2) It just means that the police needs a judge to sign a warrant to enter into your home (unless they have certainty that a crime is being committed).
It doesn't mean in any way that you can do whatever you want at home.
No idea why this is +5 informative, it should be +5 BS. Care to point to the relevant constitution text?
There are lots of things you can't do in your place. You can't have a gun without a license for example. You can't have certain animals.
And the by the way, this judge can't say what's legal and what's not. It's not the job of the judges to decide that in Spain - that's the job of the law makers. This judge *authorized* the sale (which was previously prevented at Sony's request), that's all.
"PayPal Luxembourg will be regulated to the same standard as all major European banks. Banking laws and standards in the European Union ensure that customers are just as protected by a Luxembourg bank as by a UK, French, or German bank."
Not a lot of good outside the EU.
Not any good here either. They still do things like blocking access to funds for a any amount of time they want, demand lots of documentation at any time. In Spain for example they don't have a contact phone, physical address, or any place to go with the documentation to. In order to protect themselves about possible fraud they want you to send so much documentation that anyone that can get it (paypal employee, mailman whatever) can easily open bank accounts, credit cards, etc on your name.
Anyway, the competition is even worse. Moneybookers for example owes me 400 euros. At some point they decided that I had used my account too much, so they want to know how was I. They wanted a color photocopy of my passport so I told them to fuck off and close the account. They said 'OK, but we are keeping your funds until you send us what we asked for'.
Again, I'm OK with going somewhere with my passport or ID, have an employee check it and get it back without any copy made. Asking for anything else is unreasonable.
Of everything. Because this is a fine mist that will stick to everything, even your hands, shoes, clothes, socks, the bag,
Well, any store that wants me to come home with their mist can go fuck themselves. Hopefully they'll make it mandatory to warn about that crap being in the air at least.
Since 8.10 (at least) running
apt-get install mdadm
from a base install implies that a groupware app (citadel) is installed.
Wondering if that's been fixed?
Maybe we should discuss why all that wasn't ready in case of emergency?
Just because finding a (probably) solution and putting it in place in weeks is an engineering success it doesn't mean that it isn't a disaster in any other way.
If you drill a hole at X meters then you must have a way cap it, too, period. Hopefully they will change the law to make it this way, and I hope when Obama says BP will pay the bill he means they will be sending a check to everyone that lost their way of life.
What's the reference price, the one you buy it for to the thief, the price the original owner would need to pay to have it replaced, the price the original owner paid...?
All your example basically consist on: Pay less to the people doing the work.
If you can have a private company doing things more efficient, I'm all for it. But just paying less to to people working for everyone sounds like a bad a idea. And of course since the private company will want to make money those "savings" aren't passed to the public.
Here (Spain) lots of public services are now being privately handled. Quality of service is of course worse since those in charge of the service care about money and not service - and it shows.
Care to point me to the specific Spanish law that make it *illegal*?
The content is not available here at all (unvailable from anywhere for any amount of money).
Now go tell the judge how a company who _refuses_ to sell me anything is losing money with my free watching.
I bet that there are NO cures for cancer, NO blind
After all, if stem cells are so great, and the cures so close,
Who says there are close?
why cannot the private sector have funded this research
I don't know, but if a cure is found for cancer say in 30 years, I definitely prefer that it's been publicly funded. I can't think of a better use for my taxes.
if I whined and pleaded with my dad to buy me something I saw on TV I generally got sent to my room.
From what I see, things are different now. Sending a kid to his room is pointless and that's usually his favorite place to start with, plus parents with more money than time or energy tend to spoil kids(*).
Anyway, even if your dad sent you to your room when you asked him for say, a video game, it doesn't mean that when it was time to actually buy you buy he wouldn't get the one you asked for.
(*) Not everyone of course.
Well, it's one thing if a car dealership who is not Toyota starts buying "Toyota" as a keyword.
Would you say it would be fair if some called Toyota decided to buy that word for their business?
I'm curious about the general opinion here, as they don't let me buy "Torrent" (NOT bittorrent, just Torrent) as someone (google didn't disclose who) claims to have that trademark. Torrent is my wife's last name.
What idiots -- Illegally contact people that you already know are especially hostile toward dealing with you. How many sales do they actually expect to make?
Easy: Because those people expect never to get a telemarking call, so they're easier to get off guard... in fact, if the script is any good the caller can get 30 seconds of so of conversation before the victim knows whats going on.
DRM is not designed to stop pirates forever. It is designed to stop it for the first few weeks when a game makes a large portion of its money.
Then why don't they get rid of DRM after those few weeks? That would be a reasonable compromise for me: "You will need to activate this game and it will connect to our servers until 1/6/09. After that period the game will not need an internet connection, or the CD to be in the drive".
Now, I would wait for the set date before purchasing anyway, but that's better (for them) than never buying the game no matter what.
PS.1. Yes, I know that DRM removal tools exist.
PS.2. The real date can be checked from trusted time servers.
Well, depends if those 28/4000 errors are the same in each run or not.
If they can sequence the whole thing in less than 30 minutes one time with a 0.001% "read" error rate, my guess is that they can get it probabilistically near 100% correct in 2 hours or so.
By the way, what's the current error rate? Is it 0? (just asking)
Besides, I know people who still have first generation iPods.
And if they broke, would they expect apple to fix them?
Suppose instead of this being Zune's firmware it was a microwave you bought 5 years ago. Would you have any claim to have it fixed (out of warranty, etc).

And since it's over $950, it's a felony.

Some people collect porn like others collect movies or TV shows. It's just not being able to delete. In real life it's called diogenes syndrome.
You must be American.
Same thing as being hot and just believing you are...

These stories always make up a developer with a bad attitude.
Well, you should tolerate such an employee the same you would tolerate him if he was a great salesman than drove everyone else crazy.
Apparently bad attitude is worse when it comes from a developer, why?
You'll probably find it interesting that google returns more than 500 entries for Berners-Lee goatse.

I've never understood why it was decided to have a do not call list, instead of a telemarketing list where *all numbers* used for this were listed.
If they did that, calls would be trivial to screen, and there wouldn't be a list of people who don't want to be annoyed to start with.
Since the lists are cheap, the scammers can just get 10 copies and filter out the differences. I don't think it would work (at least more than once).
What idiots -- Illegally contact people that you already know are especially hostile toward dealing with you. How many sales do they actually expect to make?

I'm sure google can _easily_ make sure you know about any service they think they can sell to you.
Don't assume that just because you don't know about some specific google services they have a marketing problem.
