Came in here to say something similar... I understand why this story is humourous but I think they're just trying to help the people who just want to play the game. I mean, there is no solution EA could come up with that would be faster than what they just suggested (other than avoiding it altogether in the first place, by not sucking).
I've often wondered why gamers are the pariahs of the home entertainment world. It's much more acceptable to society if you lay on your couch all night and stare at the idiot box. I'll bet if you described the two activities to a doctor from the 50s he'd be slightly more concerned about the person doing literally NOTHING than the gamer who has to at least use his brain and move (albeit very little).
I play MMOs and I'm not "hammering like [a] poor possessed soul" on my keyboard. What the hell does that even mean? People who don't play MMOs sure have a funny view of those that do. I'd wager more than 99.9% of us don't waste all of our time playing games, don't live in basements, aren't virgin, aren't fat, etc. But then again, probably most of the people who pick on gamers are TV watchers I mentioned above and they want to feel better about their sedentary activity of choice.
Well... what do you expect? This is a site for technophiles and scientists. Not a ton of people in ID's corner here. Scientists are naturally skeptic but being a scientist AND being open to the idea of ID is difficult at best.
That is, of course, assuming all WoW players (or at least the ones in the test) are addicted to the game. I would wager that most people who play are NOT addicted. I average maybe an hour a day of WoW, it's fun but it's certainly not all I do or think about.
You're comparing apples and oranges here. The buckyballs DO contain carbon, but that fact alone does not make them dangerous to the environment. Carbon as fuel is bad because it gives off CO2 as a byproduct of burning. In this case the carbon is just the container, the hydrogen is the fuel.
Unless of course I'm missing something, which is entirely possible.
Guess this is as good a place as any to say this... The whatcouldpossiblygowrong tag is being overused. For example, in the case of this article... what could possibly go wrong? Worst case scenario is we end up paying for a system that doesn't work. Which means we wasted money on a lame government program... and that never happens right?/sigh
It's because Blue are the aggressors on maps that aren't symmetrical. Attacking is easier than defending so...
As far as symmetrical maps go... who knows? Maybe red shirts are easier to pick out from the background.
Agreed, I loved that site. I rarely watch TV but one show I don't miss is Heroes. I wouldn't even be watching that now if I hadn't seen the first few episodes from tv-links.
Tv-links may have been safe for a while longer but they started linking to movies a couple of months ago. =/
I'm a little torn on this subject. Bioshock is an incredible game that has the potential for being an incredible multi-player game. However, the story and atmosphere of the game doesn't really lend itself towards being a multi-player game.
You're the same AC that posted in the Portal thread yesterday huh?
Anyways, you have some valid points. Not being able to play a single-player game offline is ridiculous. But its not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. Steam usually updates fairly quickly(with an average connection), and I pretty much always have an active Internet connection running... I would go out on a limb and say that your points are a non-issue for the typical user. Plus, you're missing out on some really fantastic games.
That, to me, is cool. I don't see how it was a waste of tax dollars either, its not like they took the chopper out with the express purpose of getting doughnuts. I could see people getting pissed off if this was near any residences or maybe someplace where it would disrupt traffic but otherwise...
I played a female character in WoW at first. Why? Didn't really think about it to be honest. Its a video game, I didn't sit there thinking about the psychological ramifications of choosing the gender of my avatar. I just wanted to play the game so I made it real quick. Besides, I don't know about everyone else but after about 5 minutes of playing, I barely noticed my character in comparison to the activity going on around me.
The ESRB is not an arbitrary organization, it is the video game industry's self regulation system. Going beyond that simple fact... "The rating system is voluntary, so companies do not have to submit a game for rating before selling it." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESRB
I've never been scared by a movie, ever. But I almost soiled myself the first time I played Resident Evil (the part where the dogs jump through the window in particular).
I would hesitate to say they are choosing values over greed. In fact, I believe greed is most likely the motive for the editing to begin with. They view themselves as a family-friendly store, or at least market themselves that way. I would imagine they assume the number of customers who would stop shopping there is greater than the number of customers they would gain by selling original music edits. I'm sure if they felt they would make more money by selling the unedited versions, they would do so.
Why bother downloading it if you aren't going to try it? Is this a common thing? I can only recall maybe a couple of things in my entire life I've downloaded and not checked out.

You could, ummm... not read them.

Maybe he was just high a lot... my roommate was.
So, what you're saying is... fire hot? Interesting.

So drink coffee and wine this week and stay away from sausage. Next week, skip the drinks but eat all the sausage you want!

It's a British spelling. Like my handle (Oxidiser) or Aluminium.

Say what you will... Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights were awesome games.

Too much alliteration in this summary to be a normal summary, yet not enough alliteration to be considered entertaining or clever.

Well, you learn something you don't care about every day.
