Thats terrific. I'm seriously considering this alternative. Tell me - how do I play Saint's Row on this alternative? After all, it's one of my favourite games, and I've played it to death...
Oh, I can't?
Okay, well then how about Viva pinata? My girlfriend and I love playing that together, its so much simplistic fun.
Oh, I can't.
Well, one of my favourite multiplayer experiences is Halo3, surely I can play that on this "alternative" system? No?
Well, I guess since it's missing all these games I like playing, the system will be pretty cheap? No? MORE expensive, you say? Why's that? Oh, its forcing me to choose sides in a format war? Well, isnt that exciting.
Generally when I preorder, I pay the full price up front, so as to reduce/eleminate the buyers remorse i inevitably feel on the day of purchase.
i see your point about a cash advance, but at the same time, if i preorder something, its because i can afford to at that moment, whereas when the release date rolls around, my financial situation might be slightly different.
in theory, at the moment I preorder and pay for the game, I should be taking that money, locking it into a bank account and letting it accrue interest for me instead of for them. but im afraid my personal finances dont quite work that way:>
normally i dont, but this time you get a duffle bag, a lock box, the soundtrack on cd and a book of feature art from the game. not too shabby.
but you dont get that for preordering, thats just the special edition. there are two reasons i preordered this game:
1. my girlfriend got me a voucher for my birthday, specifically for this game, and I didnt want to just sit on the voucher for what was 5 months at the time, and turned into 11.
2. i was definitely going to be buying the game anyway, and i tend to feel less buyers remorse if ive already paid for it, so that on the day i just walk in and pick it up.
my first mp3 player was a Creative Nomad 30GB, its battery lasted longer than an IPod, it came with a case and charger built in to the cost, and was cheaper than the equivalent IPod by a fair margin.
But I filled it up, and with plenty more to come in the coming years, I wanted the biggest MP3 player I could find. Apple announced the 160GB Ipod, and although I waited for a similar announcement from ANYONE, nothing was forthcoming. Nothing comes even close.
Thats why I bought an IPod, it had nothing to do with the look, or anything else other than it was the biggest one available
After all these years, my dreams of playing as a violent, gun-toting, car-stealing, cop-killing psycopath who uses MySpace to invite all his BFFs to his Sweet-16 party is coming true.
As a longtime XboxLive user, I'd prefer it if they were reducing the amount of social networking in games, rather than increasing it.
Say what you will about that controller, I consider it to be the best-designed controller in the history of video game controllers. NOTHING has ever fit my hands so perfectly, nothing whatsoever. Far from being tiny, the controller is a good fit. In fact, it's bigger than a PS2 controller, so I'm not sure how you can call the PS2 good, and then pick on the GameCube for having a "tiny controller".
I never owned a PS2, but the Gamecube controller was small. It used to give me cramps after playing for more than 30 minutes or so, and eventually I had to buy a third party controller which was a bit bigger.
Having said that, I do have large hands - I loved the XBox controller, and everyone claimed it was too big for them.
99$ -> 119$ for a game (RRP)
89$ for a cheap, plastic headset*1 and 12 months of live
As a fellow Australian, it's my duty to tell you you are bring ripped off, big time. Shop around, you should get heaps better prices than that for games.
i dont read any forums, before purchasing games. i read reviews, and just find out what the game is actually like. whats the gameplay like? whats the little things that the reviewer finds annoying? one of my pet peeves is bad camera work, especially in platformers of various kinds, so if a reviewer goes "the camera work is a little iffy", that usually sets off MAJOR alarm bells for me.
one review is better than a whole forum of tweens going "Hal03 rulz 4eva!" "Nuh-uh!" "STFU N00B!"
I also usually check out Gamerankings.com, and see which reviewer gave it the highest and lowest scores, and read those reviews to find out why they're on the extremes of the spectrum
of course, this is all if I'm not quite sold on a game. Some stuff, I buy on the opening day, reviews be damned! I've had GTA4 preordered since June last year, for example:)
Live supports whatever games come out on the 360 (one of 4 console platforms currently competing with each other), and which have an online component. Seems to me a number similarly not of incredible magnitude.
Actually, thats not true. Even if a game itself does not offer any style of play which can be attempted online, it still registers acheivements, and allows you to compare scores online.
So effectively every single xbox 360 game, right down to the Arcade games, make use of the XBL functionality. The only ones that don't are the old Xbox Originals games which are now available for download - HELLO PSYCHONAUTS!!!
I never met any cool people, and even attractive women weren't anywhere to be seen
Yeah, because my days at high school were filled with really cool people and lovely ladies.
This seems like just another a disgruntled blogger...why do I care that he didnt like the game?
I havent even played the game - but I'm eagerly awaiting the 360 Scholarship Edition, and will be preordering and picking up first day...
Since the world seems so pent up on taking pre-orders for unreleased games, how about applying that "demo fee" towards some pre-order price?
This way, if we like the game we get first dibs AND that payment is already applied to the purchase price. If we don't like it, MS keeps the money and there's no hard feelings.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. If it was $2.50 to play the demo, that would equate to X amount of MSPoints. So, when the game is purchased, it looks at whether or not you purchased the demo, and if you did, it refunds X MSPoints.
But then my understanding is this isnt just $2.50 for a single demo, its for all the content that would normally be on a cd...
How do you know? Maybe he does the hokey-pokey before snubbing game consoles?
That's what it's all about.
OOOHHHHH....
It really is too bad there isn't an alternative.

no it wasnt my money, but if i hadnt got the voucher, i definitely would have preordered anyway.
this is a genuine question - how are they taking advantage if said people would have bought it anyway?

April 29. Nearly one year since I preordered and paid for it.

I think it's not a bad idea to be ready to snap at Microsoft the second they screw up,
Snap at them? Yes. A customer could take their money elsewhere, or complain to the service desk, or various other methods.
Sue them for $5million? No. Just, No.

Considering the BSG people are all out of a job at the end of the fourth BSG season, why not give them the movie?
Because you dont "give" movies to people based on the fact that they're unemployed?
I don't know, perhaps - and may be I'm reaching here - you don't comment? Thats crazy-talk.

Well, now that MS have extended the warranty, you can get it exchanged for free...
