  1. Re:Power Consumption on Performance Showdown - SSDs vs. HDDs · · Score: 1

Power consumption is indeed better, but the hard disk accounts for only about 5% of the laptop power budget, so the changes don't significantly impact the run time. What is interesting (on the Lenovo x300 I've been using) is that the faster disk helps offset the slower, low-voltage processor. The low-voltage processor does help run time.

For Father's Day (in the US) today, I took the boys on a bike ride, then we did waste a beautiful summer afternoon in the movie theater watching Ep 3.

Always look for ways to re-live your youth with them: Legos, Star Wars, bike riding, snow forts, adventures in the woods, baseball, and mindless shows on Cartoon Network all play a part. The computer is just a new element to share together.

The ED vs. HD debate is one of the most heated that you'll find at AVS Forums.

Many current, popular 42" plasma sets are either "HD" resolution (typically around 720 lines) or "ED" resolution (480p). No one argues that the HD doesn't provide a slightly superior picture for HD content, but many argue that ED is preferrable for non-HD (SD) and DVD sources. And the price difference between the two can be dramatic. ($2500 vs. $5000).

For that $ difference, I was willing to compromise. Some pureists will make a different choice. I'm very happy with my ED Panasonic Plasma, and am hoping that in five years the price of direct-view HD sets will be within my reach.
