Back in the days the Amiga was easier to configurate, had better multimedia capabilities than *any* platform, the best multimedia applications (video, at least). Some video/audio apps still outperform anything you can get for linux today.
That said, I am still not sure why a "normal" user should get a new Amiga instead of a Linux box today. No memory protection (planned, though) and no application advantages.
But, if you are an old Amiga user, interrested in the latest Amiga technology and also have an interrest in running a pretty cheap PPC box (LinuxPPC?), then this might be something for you.
Don't know about IE, but Opera has had this as a built in feature for years. The Mozilla way is more flexible though. Opera's keywords seems to be locked to certain words.
Ok, that is nice to know. I just installed Psi, Icq and everything seems to work fine. Very nice. Good luck with dealing with those GPL violating b******s, by the way.:)
One second thought though, what happens if the single server I am using goes down permanently? I guess I'll then have to reenter all my data and add all contacs again, at another server?
Is each Jabber server isolated, or do they communicate with each other?
If they don't communicate, will I have to run a separate client for each server I have a "buddy" connected to?
That was one of the mayor drawbacks with IRC (which imho still is the best form of IM), you had to find a client that supported connections to multiple simultaneos servers or run several clients at once.
Yes, it was kind of interresting. Could you please tell me a little about the Karma Chameleon I have heard so much about? I have heard that it likes to hunt down its prey in places like slashdot?:)
Graphics technology will not be 'done' until we can't visually tell the difference between real-life and a game.
Hehe, funny you brought that up. I saw thisscreenshot and thought: "Ahh.. Cool dynamic lightning". Some moments later I realized it was not a screenshot among the others, but a view from inside id's demo cube.:)
To the kid down the block who grows up using these controls, he will say the same thing about "clunky mice and keyboards" because they aren't what he grew up with.
Funny thing then that many old school fps gamers that at first were very reluctant to change from keyboard only to keyb+mouse, later did. They grew up with using only the keyboard, but as soon they started playing online (Quakeworld anyone?) they realized that they were no match for people who had made the switch. These guys complained about keyb+mouse being inferior, later when they was fragged into oblivion, some even went as far as calling keyb+mouse cheating. The majority made the switch though, many in silence.
They now have a large share of the low to mid-range server market, to the point that many clueless managers don't know alternatives exist. They also have a foothold in the handheld/PDA market.
The greatest trick the devi... Microsoft ever pulled was convincing the world h... alternative software didn't exist.
I don't see how someone who rapes, tortures, and murders your wife is even allowed to have a point of view at that point.
You have your right to think so, but what about all those who are innocently convicted? My guess is that their number is bigger than anyone would like to think about. Death sentences may look fine (an eye for an eye...) to some people when not taking those people into account. I guess most peoples trust in death penalties would be shaken a bit by having their own parents/children/siblings/partners risking being convicted to death innocently.;(
Have you even visited a minumum security prison, let alone a maximum security prison? I think death is a huge grace when compared to life in one of these hell holes.
Yes, you think that...death is a huge grace... compared to beeing locked up in any kind of prison. Does that mean everyone have to share your point of view? My very uninformed guess is that there are lots of people currently on death row that would rather be in a very high security prison. I guess the opposite isn't that very common. In my not so humble opinion it is not the matter of any state to decide whether it's citizens are to live or die. Recognize this quote?
Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
Who? A fictional character called Gandalf (Well, Tolkien), speaking of another fictional character called Gollum. Still it is one of the best all-time quotes imo.
Maybe it's a German thing?
:)
Nah, it's a swedish thing. Or rather, my thing. Sorry, my english vocabulary seems misconfigured.
But then, what do you say? "configurationize" seems pretty awkward to me?

I'd rather say "yet another reason not to use any client using a protocol owned(!) by AOL". Jabber looks like a better choise for each passing day.
;P
If I now just could convince everyone on my 100+ contactlist to change from icq to jabber...

Nah, ever played "Collosal Cave"? :)
How to make a keyword search? Simple!
Search for a word on google (or any other search engine). Our word ="xyzzy".
When you get the results, add the resulting page as a bookmark.
Open "Manage bookmarks". Open properties of your new Google bookmark. The Location will look something like:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=xyzzy
Now replace "xyzzy" in your bookmark with "%s". The result should look something like:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%s
Now you just add your keyword in the bookmark/properties field saying "Keyword:". We put "g" there.
Done! Click OK.
Now you can search google for xyzzy by entering "g xyzzy" in your location field.
This works in both Mozilla 1.1+ and Phoenix 0.3+. It might even work in earlier versions.

I didn't think so. Here's $2,000 kid, go buy yourself a real 3d app.
Real3D? Whoa... It is ages since I used that app, but it sure was cool at the time!
But nowadays it is called Realsoft 3D.
Sir? Could you please stop your tank a moment? We need to cut a BIG HOLE in it. Hello? Hello?
You'd think they should have found time to replace that awful (windows) splashscreen by now? :)
I suppose the torch has been passed from the "Slackware is for hardcore users", to "Gentoo is for hardcore users" mantra.
;)
As a happy Gentoo user, I must say that Slackware is still more "hardcore" than Gentoo. I am not sure that is a good thing (for Slackware) though.
Cunning Linux users prefer Debian or SUSE.
Please, elaborate. Is it because:
They don't have the time to compile the whole shebang? (Not that they'd have to)
They don't like taking advantage of the full performance their system offers?
Stability?
Something else?
As far as I can tell, the guy didn't request GPL:ed software for Win32, only open source. MIT is open source.
Hmm... Karma? Heard of it? New to slashdot?
Thanks to you I now have Aphex Twin - Windowlicker running though my head.
Yes, it was kind of interresting. Could you please tell me a little about the Karma Chameleon I have heard so much about? I have heard that it likes to hunt down its prey in places like slashdot? :)
Well, when arguments run dry, you can always resort to karma attacks. :P

Remind me to remind you of what you just said when it is you or your daughter innocently convicted to the chair/chamber/needles.
