First, I've developed on OSX, windows, and Linux (mainly ubuntu and CentOS)... OSX is by FAR the easiest to work on as a developer. When I switched to OSX about 4 years ago after 6+ years developing on windows / linux I became VASTLY more productive and spent far less time fixing my computer and more time actually doing work. The price tag I'll never argue. They are over priced.
Also, who cares if it's a different kernel. First of all, it's certainly closer to the CentOS server you're (probably) going to deploy it on than your windows computer. More importantly, we're talking about Web Development here right? If you're doing coding that is low level enough to be effected by the kernel then you should probably be developing on a environment that is a clone of your production server. You can still use your Mac Book to interface with it via FTP or SSH... or as others have suggested you can always just load up a virtual box running the exact OS of your production server to test against.
Final word.. I'm not a mac fan boy or anything... I do use a mac for most of my development, but I also use linux and windows computers regularly. I have employees that use windows I think it's whatever feels best to the individual and to me Mac is the most comfortable environment for development I've found. To argue you can't or shouldn't develop on a Mac is just absurd.
My fear with using BitLocker (win) or FileVault (mac) is that if for whatever reason my computer stops booting I won't be able to get in and get my files back. If you leave your files unencrypted you can usually just use a boot cd or worst case plug the drive in to another computer to save your files. Before anyone says it yes I do back up regularly, but you never know
However, with TrueCrypt you get a file which is a disc image that can be opened on any system as long as you have the TrueCrypt software and the password. So I throw all my general stuff on the drive unencrypted and sensitive stuff (passwords, financial data, etc) in a TrueCrypt file.
The sad truth is even without this addition they could always find some reason to arrest you. I used to work for a police department and it was not strange to bring people in because they "resembled a suspect we were looking for". Then theres always "disorderly conduct" or "suspicious behavior" which are always at the discretion of the officer. Wonder when they're gonna install the telescreens........

The phone doesn't matter just make sure its GSM... You can use Cricket Wireless or Virgin in the US.. not sure about Europe. You might need 2 sim cards / providers to avoid paying "roaming".. but Virgin and Cricket both offer unlimited data plans in the US. I know Virgin is in the UK too their "unlimited" data plans start at only $25/ month.. it'd probably be your best bet.

To those saying it's a outlook problem no it's not. I use Mac Mail on my Mac and thunderbird on my Linux systems and they both have reply and reply all right next to each other. I assume outlook is the same (I haven't used it in about 5 years). However at the end of the day the error isn't the program it's the user that clicks the wrong button probably because you're in too much of a hurry.
No e-mail is THAT urgent take a deep breath and relax... think about what you're clicking and everything will be ok.

the one thing I will admit (as a web designer who still makes everything in notepad) is the way web design software makes HTML does drive me nuts... but thats just 'cause I started making websites when the size of your file mattered back in the days of 28.8 k/33.6 k...so I still think that every byte counts... however really in a word where almost everyone has DSL or better the size of an HTML document doesn't matter much at all (within reason)

Not to mention the fact alone that it's utilizing mechanical force to etch a chip which is unheard of... besides this could be very practical. Think about it, most companies don't need an overpriced chip with 45nm spaced etchings... but being able to buy many cheaper chips with a 60nm gap would be a great.

Have you looked at virgin or cricket? .. i KNOW virgin has coverage in Seattle.. not sure about cricket
