    My X tried to get job there, twice. She has a Phd (physics), 2 masters degrees and teaches C/C++/Python and OOP(college level and business level). Also, has experience writing large software projects on Linux. She has developed software for IBM that was marketed and made a bundle. She has a special interest in algorithms and their application to tough software problems. She couldnt get an interview. I was astonished - she is probably the best programmer/designer Ive ever met. Google, you goofed not hiring her.

    I just turned 58. I have worked in DP/IT since I was 21. THats 37 years. I am ready to retire. I might live another 20 years. I just want to spend time with my cameras and build a darkroom. I am tired of working. But if I had another 700 years to look forward to, who the f**k is going to pay my SSI, my health cost, my annuity benefits? Also, just think of all the senior citizens driving around! millions of us - smashing into cars, trashing flea markets.

    No, sorry, man was designed to die after a short finite time. This planet cannot support that amount of population. The tensions of such a huge population will result in many more wars and disease. Besides, I dont think we can produce enough Depends to support all those old sh*ts.

    I'd take a 4M pixel phone, with 256M of memory, and decent optics. I think the industry needs to make decent 2-4M pixel camers first, and sell a bunch. My Sanyo has about a 1.2M pixel in it and the pictures are, well, just this side of crummy.

    I have been an Intel/AMD user for long time. I have built, for myself and at work, dozens of PCs. I use M$ crappy OS and good-old linux ( also Be when it was around). But, my next machine will be a G5 or new Apple notebook. I am fed-up with M$ crap. Whats keeping me from doing this now? - damn Apple machines are expensive. What I want will set me back $3k-$4k. And I am not rich. SO, I wait.

    Have people forget we are sending the US treasury to Iraq? We have NO bucks for RandD on a new system. We cant keep the current Shuttle going. So scrap it. But dont kid yourself into thinking we are going to replace it. It is going to be a long time before this country gets ANY good RandD going.

    You need to see a shrink. You are SO in denial mode. Take it from your users, not your PR cronies, IE is broke, always has been broke, always will be broke. Firefox is great ( but there are still some problems with it) and it will get better. But I doubt if it will ever get a big following. Bill has us by the cojones. We know it, He knows it. Thats why he can lie, lie, and lie some more. Thats it, Bill, blame your users. Just once, I would like for M$ to admit fault. I can dream, right?

    My heart attack in Feb 2003, ran to the tune of around $17000 ( hospital, angiogram, ER). My 35 years of working in the highttech field finally culminated in a life changing event. Doctors final Rx was that I have handled all that stress in a bad way. So, now I go hiking more, eat better, less booze, and less work. Will it make a difference? Who knows.

    I am sure Osama wants Bush re-elected. GWB has played right into the radicals plan. Kerry cant get elected - not in the plan. So, if there is going to be another terror hit, it will be before Nov. election. This will guarantee that GWB gets elected. And then whats left of our liberties will be flushed down the toilet.

    This is one of the many tactics that the feds use now to keep us safe from terrorists. And as we all are sheep, we will take it and smile. Since 9/11, this country has willingly allowed the feds to chip away at our liberties, under the guise of "keeping us safe". WE have no one to blame but our selves.     or you'll spend half your time at work writing abuse letters. My logs at work show a constant barrage of windows attacks ( yes, code red is still there), 137 scans, numerous login hacks for any number of OS's, port scans that increment by 1 each time, etc. Sometimes it slows down. I am beginning to just consider it background noise. Just the cost of doing business on the web. As long as the probes arent massive or working, I just note and ignore. I only have so much time for this - it keeps me from downloading all that porn!

    From my experience, this is just a scam by the colleges to get your dough. And the work-world enforces this scam by requiring 4year degrees for some jobs.

    There used to be a great method for preparing people for work - apprentiships. I wonder who is more valuable - someone who works for 4 years at a job preparing him for a career ( using the right tools and working AT THAT career), or someone who goes to college for 4 years ( and comes out with NO experience in the field)?

    I got a math degree. I have worked in IT for over 36 years. Never used my degree. In fact the best programmer I ever worked with had a degree in Physical Education. A damn jock!
