I've only read "pump six and other stories", his collection of short stories mostly from the same universe, and I thought it was amazing.
The creativity and originality of the world and ideas he packed into those short stories was astounding, so if "The Windup Girl" flags towards the end, I recommend you give pump six a look.

    Nice anecdote.

I live in the UK, and generally accept a billion to be 1e12, but assume someone means 1e9 if they're on tv or it's in their interests to exaggerate.

Doing a physics degree, a billion is always 1e12 in the lab.

Second the Independance Wars games... I only played Edge of Chaos, but that was one hell of a game, especially for the time it was made.

That game pretty much spoiled me WRT physics in space sims, and i never really got into many others as a result.

Well i read somewhere if all meat producing land converted to growing crops, it would end world hunger. I doubt that's exactly true, but it's still enough to warrant meat-in-a-vat in my opinion.

BTW, I could live without meat, but what kind of life would it be? ;)

  14. Re:They are unpleasant already on PETA Offers X-Prize for Artificial Meat · · Score: 1
Humans can led long and healthy lives without once eating meat. I know many lifelong vegetarians.

Using land to rear meat is massively inefficient, producing at most 10% of what plants could. But I love my steak too much to give it up, so this is great news for me.

    Cheaper, conscience friendly meat FTW!!!

PS, anyone thought of how useful this could be for space colonization, nuclear submarines etc.?
