  1. Re:Patented Taskbar Grouping? on Microsoft Patents Grouped Taskbar Buttons · · Score: 1

Actually it's not a bad idea, that is if it was done right, but with a few improvements it would be a lot useful. For Example.

    1) Have a "Ungroup" Action added if you right click it. That way, you can force it to ungroup. right now, once it's grouped it stays that way until you close enough windows for it to ungroup. Which brings me to..

    2) Fix the Group Logic. It seems to be really screwy how it decides to group, for example, say I have 4 IE's running, and I open Notepad and then After I open "My computer" it groups all the IE's. Once I close the "my computer" window it should ungroup, but it wont unless I close notepad or one of the IE's. I think TweakUI can fix this, but I'm not sure.

One big thing I like about it is when IE Goes to a crazy page and starts popups like mad, all you do is Right click the group, select close Group and the 50 popup windows go away.

Generally, I cant give an exact average on the car. It seems to like the summer season better. the last tank I filled got me to 311 miles, so roughly 31 MPG. This is the highest I've seen it this year. the tank before that got 300, before that 280. generally speaking I average about 270-280 miles on a tank during the summer, which is pretty much in the epa standard.

In the winter, its a much different story. I know that driving is going to be a little slower but generally I go the speed limit the whole way to work. During the winter I Average between, 250-230 miles per tank. The lowest being 200 during the coldest portion of this winter. I'll second this. putting on the Built in Firewall in XP will stop Blaster from infecting the machine. Pretty unplug from the network, install XP, turn on the built in firewall and hit windowsupdate until you get all the patches.

With Windows 2000 however, it gets fun since there is no built in firewall for that. You can use zonealarm to block the virus traffic, or you can use a Router/Firewall to block traffic. Not exactly.
Right now, someone at MS is looking at the apextreme PC Consloe and thinks that the next XBOX should have that capibility as well. My guess would be that it would function like the apextreme more than a PC.

They are also watching Sony as well. They have been thinking for a long time to Turn the PS2 into a PC. (Sorry No English, with these pics at least) If Sony doesn't do it with the PS2 then possibly the PS3. Doubtful, but who knows.

If they did build it so it performed much like a PC, with LAN Parties becoming more mainstream, something like this would be intresting, especially if it keeps the same footprint. An XBOX is big but it's still smaller than most PC's and if it can do play anything a PC can play, why lug a PC when you could lug a smaller, lighter XBOX.

on the dev side of things though, PC developers would worship this thing like a god, primarialy since a system like this would be completely standardized hardware wise. (that is if MS makes it so you cant upgrade it.) Thats one of the reasons the XBOX is so crash free. Since every XBOX is the same internal wise, they only have to make sure it works on that hardware alone. On the minus side, however you would see the devs standardize on XBOX Next first, PC second. So their games would probably run with less errors on the XBOX next then on a PC, even though the PC was the main target.

We knew they existed, and the policy was pretty much if a PC needed the blaster patch and the Machine wouldn't install it, it was barred from the network. That was fun dealing with irate Studens and Parents, but flat out it was the law and we stuck with it.

Also, keep in mind that your also dealing with the user of the computer as well. First rule of computers in my mind is the 1% rule, which states that 99% of computer users dont know what they are doing. based on that, and a student base of roughly 1500 student's that equates to roughly 15 students that do, and have installed the patch. Basicially even if they knew about the patch and could install it they wouldn't install it because they didn't know how, or they thought it would never happen to them and viruses only happens to the nerds and not the jocks or some other stupid excuse. They started to care when their internet got shut off in their rooms for supposedly no reason even though we sent them an Inter-campus mail saying we were shutting off their connection cause they weren't patched AND left a message on their Voice Mailbox three days before it was shut off.

That Being said, there was a lot better ways MS could have handled that situation. Specificially they could have let it install SP1 but not allow anything but Critical Updates to be installed. Then you couldn't install DX9, WMP9, the .Net Framework, even Corporate MS products or flat out disable the entire windows installer if they really wanted to be sadistic. The only problem with that would be the Second Rule of Computers in my mind or the Illiteracy Rule, Which stats that Computer users Do not Read, So when everything goes nuts and it's poping up message after message that your using a Pirate copy, The'll think the PC is crashing and MS makes Crash Happy Software instead of reading the message and know that their stealing the OS.
