    All this litigation and chest beating costs millions of dollars/pounds/euros. Why don't the respective governments make a proactive move by mandating that free software be used rather than MS stuff. I don't doubt for a moment that all the harshly written criticisms of MS by these people are done on MS-Word.

    Not necessarily. You could subnet into larger segments. You're thinking of the old "class" system. In fact at work a good chunk of our internal routing equipment lives on 172.16.0.0/24

    Not likely. MP3 is a lossy compression. The "secret bits" would be at the mercy of the MP3 compression scheme rendering them useless.

    Don't laugh, Fortran is still widely used in the scientific field. Optimizing compilers such as the SGI/MIPS compilers do good jobs at generating tight code from Fortran. C and C++ are not the easiest things to optimize automagically.

    It's no coincidence that SGI and Cray have excellent Fortran compilers, their customers demand it.

    (sorry I spent all of last Wednesday in 2 seminars with a fellow from SGI's Canadian HPC group, I'm still buzzing. :))

    Then why not use OpenBSD? After all, it costs the same and they are the ones that wrote the OpenSSH package you find so useful.

    Grease it up with petroleum jelly. Now spray paint it. Do a good job, adding several coats

    I did that with the goatse.cx guy. After I was done I had a really nice Klein Bottle.
