I see your point. For some people it's probably the ideal solution. I guess I just don't get through books that quickly. If I'm traveling and I need something to read then I'll buy a new book. If I'm travelling in a foreign country I've got better things to do than read. It's kind of the same with MP3 players. I had a 40GB iRiver which had my entire music collection on it. It was ok but I'm happier with my 4GB iPod Nano because then I spend a little longer thinking about what to put on it. That way I can just press play and listen to something I know I'll want to hear rather than that Teach Yourself Japanese (or whatever) album that's several hundred tracks long and keeps on popping up even though you only copied it on there by accident. Each to their own, I guess.
people need marketed to because they don't know where to go for the things they want/need
Really? I don't watch TV. I don't click on internet ads. I ignore billboards. I still manage to find things that I need and want. I honestly can't think of one advert that I have recently paid attention to or one product that I have bought that I was informed of through marketing.
I think it's the companies that need the marketing to survive.
Don't get me wrong, I love dogs but when you do a fresh install of XP and you dismiss the dog and it runs into the distance and jumps off the edge... I like to add a little yelp as it does that.
Absolutely this. I'm the webmaster for a town planning consultancy. The company deals with a lot of councils around the UK most of which use IE so the stats are as follows:
I've taken the time to make sure that they both work in IE6-8, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera because the site's are simple enough and don't contain much JavaScript but the point is that dropping IE6 support from the gallery site would have less of an impact than dropping it from the planners site.
Google has gone so far downhill, I've actually tried Bing!.
How has it gone down hill? It's as good as it's ever been in my experience. Also, you say you've tried Bing! Was it actually any better?
Heck, it's almost impossible to search for what you want on Google now, as it constantly changes your search terms. You pretty much have to add a + in front of every search keyword, in order to get what you want.
Hyperbole much? It's always done that. It makes sense. If you want to search for a specific phrase you still can.
About 1% of the time I search for something (I'm in IT, I search hundreds of times per day), the Google redirect domain they use is slow, and you have to reload to get where you want to go.
Actually I have noticed this. I'm in the same position and Google seems incredibly slow during office hours. It can't be that bad a service if you use it hundreds of times a day though...
What is wrong with these people?
They're trying to provide a services that works for millions of people. Obviously it's not going to be perfect for everyone.
[On a side note, why can't I click the bottom-right quarter of this text area?]
Often the line is drawn by the officials whose job it is to remove graffiti. Someone commissioned a graffiti artist to paint a piece on their shop front. The council then removed the piece from his property without his permission or even his knowledge for no real reason other than being over-zealous.
Or there's the Banksy piece that was done in the centre of town which went to a public vote on whether or not to remove it. The city voted to keep it.
Remember - not all graffiti is tagging and vandalism.
I don't know about other cities but in Bristol, UK there are at least two people whose job it is to find, photograph, document and then remove graffiti.

You're right. I've lost count of the times when I've been on a long flight and needed a few thousand books to read.
Oh, I thought it was "Bing is no good".

He said "the latest Direct X".
But can you still play a mean pinball with no speakers, keyboard or monitor?
No, this is slashdot, instructions shouldn't involve going outside or interacting with others.
It should have read, "Go to your other computer".
However, his son was a zombie so probably loved them.

How can you say that!? Have you seen the iPad?!
they could bring jarjar back, I am sure he would kill him with gratuitous amounts of gore quickly.
Ok, now I'm interested.
I went to gmail.com and all I got was this lousy email address.
Absolutely this. I'm the webmaster for a town planning consultancy. The company deals with a lot of councils around the UK most of which use IE so the stats are as follows:
IE8: 25%
IE7: 20%
IE6: 12%
IE total: 57%
Firefox: 15%
Now compare this to another site that I run for a local (trendy graffiti-type) art gallery/shop:
IE8: 16%
IE7: 12%
IE6: 5%
IE total: 33%
Firefox: 40%
I've taken the time to make sure that they both work in IE6-8, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera because the site's are simple enough and don't contain much JavaScript but the point is that dropping IE6 support from the gallery site would have less of an impact than dropping it from the planners site.
NO!
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!
Did I mention, NO?
Ok, calm down.

Sure, just do what other Slashdotters do - don't have any friends.

Mod this coward up, he speaks the truth.
because there's nothing like actually having it in your hands
Until, of course, there is something like actually having it in your hands.
Awesome! That means my desk is a planet as well!
You're just jealous because he ranks higher than you.
that game, my friend, requires a quad-core CPU.
Seriously? Is this an official requirement?
If so that would explain why it runs like a bag of shit on my (otherwise fairly good) PC.
Wikipedia would agree with you:
"Publishing: the activity of making information available for public view."
it's story line is simple and not drug out
Unlike, say, Pacman in which the main character spends the entire game eating pills.
I think the word you're looking for is 'dragged'.
