As a conservative, I can only say that OP is right, and there haven't been any conservatives in the Republican party for decades; maybe this is a sign of that changing.
And if the store has a no photography policy,
They do, but there's nothing here about store employees mentioning it.
and the ATM company has industrial secrets or something,
They may, but should be a little more careful in that case, doncha think?
then they can have the picture confiscated,
Not without due process, they can't.
and the police would need to take the person in to custody to ensure no copies of the picture were created.
Which would ensure nothing and be a waste of time. I can post a pic to Facebook (or any other server) as quickly as I can take it.
Just playing devil's advocate: In that case, all laptop manufacturers should also only allow one task at a time. Think of the battery life you could get!
It would make sense for the iPhone default setting to be "No background apps" and allow the user to change the setting. But to purposely cripple their product -- and make the user jump through hoops to uncripple it -- isn't okay (to this user, anyway).
Ports on the back is a deal-breaker for me. My workplace lets us buy computers with interest-free loans once every 2 years, but only from certain companies. I switched 4 years ago from Dell to HP because Dell (at the time) put most of their ports on the back, and those that were on the front pointed downwards at a bizarre angle that made them hard to access.
Now the Adamo has ports on the back. Seriously, laptops still have ports on the back? What a PITA! I thought side or front ports were pretty standard now.
I think it would be fun if mods could comment on WHY they chose a certain rating. Too often, the blatant trolls just don't seem to get it. And I'll often mod someone insightful for a single part of his post while the rest of the post might be moronic, leaving him feeling insightful when he should really feel only partially insightful (and otherwise moronic).
Memo to Daswolfen:
This post is funny while your is a troll. You're probably wondering why, so I thought I'd explain.
You see, the article was about the foresight and planning of a chimp. Therefore, when flyingsquid made reference to foresight and planning in his post and related these traits to Wall Street bankers, it was amusing.
Had he simply said, "Better qualified than a Wall Street banker", then appended a long diatribe explaining why he's not a racist, it would not have been funny.
As you may have already inferred (but probably haven't) the humor comes from creating relationships in the reader's mind between a chimp and a banker, first by stating several qualities displayed by the chimp, then by relating that to bankers.
If you had said instead, "Arguably, he demonstrated more foresight and planning than the primate who wrote the Federal budget," that may have been read as racist, and you may have still been flamed, but at least you would have displayed some humor (as well as an ability to connect both the president, a chimp, and the recent dust-up over that cartoon). We might then have appreciated your post as more than, well, you simply being a douche.
I hope this helps make your future contributions to slashdot more productive and enjoyable.
Yes, the reasons for using each are very different. If your site is dynamic, Drupal is great. If your site is static, Dreamweaver is a really good tool. While it may seem that more and more sites are becoming dynamic, I'd argue that there are still -- and will always remain -- a very large number of static sites cared for by single developers that have no need of a CMS.
I know it's popular here to bash wysiwig editors (just write the code, dammit!), but Dreamweaver has gotten MUCH better since version 4.
It's code is good, it works well with Flash, CSS and JavaScript. And if you're a designer, the Photoshop integration is pretty fantastic. Personally, I use Dreamweaver primarily for the site management tools, which are also very good.
If you haven't used DW in the past 4 years, then you haven't used DW.
Companies...do not like the negative image this is bringing them directly.
Neither do the artists themselves, who seem to get lost in the "OMG PIRACY IS THEFT!!1!" argument.
It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling to go to a concert and hear the band say, "Thank you for paying to come see us, now go download our stuff illegally and fuck the labels who are fucking us!"
(No, I don't download music and am not a pirate, although I don't care if others do and are.)
people say steal when they get something illegally without paying
Which people are these? The people who agree with you and are therefore right?
When my neighbors house was robbed, they were pissed because their stuff had been stolen. They weren't mad because the culprits were "getting something illegally without paying for it." They were mad because the culprits had removed my neighbors own ability to possess what they'd paid for.
I'll never understand the need for an otherwise intelligent person to get all upset about "nitpicking" when they are demonstrably wrong. Equating piracy with theft is analogous to creationists' ridiculous "But it's just a theory!" argument, in which they show a complete lack of understanding of what a "theory" actually is.
but because of the lack of a good electronic paper, audio and video came first because the "playback" hardware already existed.
I would argue that books have taken so long because they're so much more difficult than music and video to digitize.
In 1998 I could easily rip my music collection and offer it to the world. In 2002 I could easily rip my video collection and offer it to the world. But I still can't easily rip my book collection.
Prior to this case, I'd be surprised if more than 10% of the parents of children at that school could actually have told you this guys name
What the parent knew is irrelevant. The target audience was the students at the school, who knew who he was, thus making him a public figure for the purposes of this case.
Agreed on the "douchebag" thing, but I didn't see the page, and so don't know the context. John Stewart calls people "douchebag", and the Daily Show is still satire.
Ah, yes -- the "my friend had this happen" story. As a Las Vegas resident, I've heard about 20 permutations of the same story. Funny how it's always someone's "friend" or "cousin" or "this guy I know".
Also funny how no one who works in a casino has ever heard of such a hand stamp.
Also funny how the casinos use this super-secret ink that takes a whole week to wash off. And don't forget the needless details (common in every urban legend) such as "the orange pumice stuff".
When your friend got to his car, was there a hook hanging from the door handle?
Yes, this is why dentists generally give you acid / shrooms before sedating you with nitrous.
As a conservative, I can only say that OP is right, and there haven't been any conservatives in the Republican party for decades; maybe this is a sign of that changing.
(But I doubt it.)
Don't you damn liberals EVER stop with the Bush-hating?
...they just banned cigar bars.
That would be my cue to leave.
It's such a fine line between stupid and clever...
I've pretty much never had javascript freeze the page or anything of the sort.
I don't use dialup, either. But I do view a tremendous amount of porn, and NoScript really comes in handy for that (so to speak).

Hmmm...haven't seen that yet. But it sure didn't take long for a Mac fanboi to cry about how unfairly some fictional 'anti-Mac fanatics' will respond.

Agreed.

yes, pirating is stealing and let's not quibble over the definition
Saying, "Night is day and let's not quibble over the definition" doesn't make night and day the same thing. Piracy is infringement, not stealing.
Every book that is pirated, and to the same degree where a book is swapped on an internet site, means one less sale to the author
Replace the first 2/3rds of that sentence with "Every CD or video borrowed from the library..." to see why the argument is retarded.
But you know as well as I that with electronic copies, the barriers are completely removed. That is why publishers want DRM.
These 2 sentences together make no sense. If you add DRM, you still have an electronic copy.
