  1. Re:Makes sense on Clean Smells Promote Ethical Behavior · · Score: 1

There was a study I read about a while back (In Malcom Gladwell's Blink, maybe?) where people were shown random faces and asked to rate that person's attractiveness. While the person was looking, one of three smells was wafted under a person's nose, a control which had no smell, a very slight lemony-fresh scent, and a strong(but still good-smelling) lemony scent. The subjects rated people more attractive with the slight smell than the control, but if the smell was strong enough that the person could consciously smell the odor, all of the attractiveness-boost was lost.

It is a shame that Huckabee is no longer in the media. while I never particularly agreed with what his policies or attitudes were when I read about them in the papers or online, when I had the opportunity to hear him speak in a debate or the time he was on Colbert's program I always found myself nodding along and liking what he said, even if after the fact I would do a double-take and realize he was arguing against abortion or for increased religiosity(which go as against my young-college-student mindset as anything can :-P). He really was a very persuasive speaker, and had the Clinton-esque(Bill, not Hillary.) demeanor you couldn't help but like.

  23. Re:Yeah, or.... on MPAA Touts Record Year For Hollywood · · Score: 1

I think something like 300, or the Lord of the Rings don't deserve to be criticized for being "simply a remake," because before them there wasn't really any TV show or movie that did the same thing. The transfer from something which is already in film is a lot easier than one from a book. The transfer from a comic book is slightly more tenuous in its category as "Original content," but it still holds, in my opinion.

I Am Legend was a mistake on my part, no argument there. Not only is it the remake of a movie based on a book, that book has been made into a movie three times now. Whoops!

Any word on whether Bill Nye will be returning?(In classic slashdot fashion, I haven't read the article yet, but I figure something like that would be summary-worthy news...) That was probably one of the few things they could have done to make a show with giant fighting machines any better, putting Bill Nye on. I would think Adam & Jaime(the Mythbusters, for those who don't know) would make pretty good hosts too, if they didn't, you know, already have their own TV show...
