>>The card is impressive for sure and should have NVIDIA on the ropes for a while, as it beats out a GeForce 4 Ti 4600 handily, especially with Anti-Aliasing and Anisotropic Filtering enabled.
What you meant was it is more or less a tie, unless you turn on AA, but thanks for the unbiased summary!
i think many of you confuse 'cheap' with 'smart enough to realize the status quo sucks'
rocks are a horrid waste, i'd sooner spend 6-10k on a car, a trip, hell, i'd rather have a gargantuan mound of charcoal, at least that carbon can cook steaks.
Maybe its just me, but i also find the concept of paying a dowry insulting, but then i also find the concept of formalized marriage stupid, archaic, and just what everyone expects me to do, so don't ask me!
Where is my ring? my fancy dinner? eh?
If we are, in theory, progressing towards equality between the sexes, then a future two-income household shouldn't have such a lopsided courting procedure.
In to symbolism? then buy something you can afford. Don't blow what could amount to all or half a down payment on a house on an ugly lump of carbon.
and how often are you calling internal AT&T numbers posing as an employee? (perhaps rightly so).
All the megacorps do this, if nothing else, simply because the company is so damn big the person has never heard of you, your manager, or your manager's manager.
I can understand your sentiment, but i think you missed the point a bit.
BSD may have good hardware support, and it may require less tweakage, but as far as ease of desktop use, it is little better than linux.
before all the devilboys chime in, where are the games, where is the support, and where are the pre-packaged machines sold with xxx(x)BSD?
remember that in the article, he said her was still happy with linux for a server and firewall, just not his workstation.
as for just writing a vesa 2.0 driver, no. what is needed is bleedingly fast openGL, and excellent sound, and without trouble. granted, to a degree video and sound is the responsibility of the manufacturer, but i still don't think A/V or gaming on linux -or- BSD is to the point where joe sixpack can deal with it without quickly becoming joe twelvepack.
does the box say the machine must be running windows 98/me or 2000/xp?
yes?
am I running those things? no? there you go.
yo don't see too many people buying DVD movies and trying to cram them into their VCRs, now do you? What about putting DVDs into CD players?
People know not to put Diesel into their gasoline-burning cars, and they should be swift enough to read the box on the software before they buy it and know what they had at home.
VHS movies had dropped in price well before DVD players were sold, much less mainstream.
VHS tapes dropped in price because people actually began desiring to buy them. Well, that and home VCRs and HBO meant lots of unsold $65-85 movies.
i don't expect that the lack of "competition" will drive up prices of DVD movies. besides, if you've watched both formats, you'd know already that there is no competition!
(don't say VCD or i'll have to smack you)

my question is this: what would you use when manipulating large amounts of text in and out of databases is exactly what you need?
In my experience, perl still does this very very well, and its usually living in some form on almost any *nix machine i end up at.
saying not everything is about text as an argument towards retiring perl is akin to saying that not everything is about web pages as an argument to retiring PHP.
that is the difference between maintaining a functional view of the world and trying to hold a literal view of thw world.
when you tell the functionalist he is insignificant in the world, he will ask: "does this change how i live?" and the answer is no. the functionalist then reasons. "Then what does it matter?"
the literalist thinks: "I mean nothing! nothing! I should end it now!"
just goes to show that literal thinking and determinisim do not mix!
Most college radio stations rotate formats often, and switch shows and/or DJ's around. I used to work for my local station, and could be industrial one semester could become reggae the next.
Granted, you'll usually not find a heavy dose of top 40, which is well and good, but i'd prefer not to substitute marley for ministry.
I would consider myself more or less enlightened, and I do enjoy a good headshot [think FPS, sicko] now and then.
As far as I know splattering the brains of my hapless victims all over the bathroom tiles does absolutely nothing to mar my standing as a citizen, nor to alter my appreciation for life and art.
though art would be cooler with more blood and stuff.
its not like a DVD player is something people can't already buy for $99.
If i were comparing the xbox and the gamecube (i'm not, i already have a ps2 and a cube) i'd be interested in nintendo's "it does games. nothing else. but it does games well" ad campaign.
if i want a dvd player, i'll buy the sweet phillips gamecube dvd from lik-sang.
Having been an administrator and a programmer for 6 years, i can say that you don't need college to get "in the door". (or didn't in 1996)
though, a degree can't really hurt, especially -after- you have experience. no one cares what school you went to or what your grades werre if you have 2+ years of experience. as for pay, your first few jobs may not pay well, but you are not obligated to tell future employers or headhunters how much you make ("not enough" has worked for me several times).
I went to school while i aquired my job experience, it took me almost 7 years to finish my undergrad. i got a psychology degree. i learned alot, i "broadened" myself, and i can spot a manipulating sonovagun a mile away.
oh, and interacting with the gender of your choice is always a plus. college is more of a melting pot than almost any other environment, why pass up the chance to be exposed to so many ideas and be able to discuss them in person?
ATARI didn't release their backwards compatible system until their other non-backwards compatibile system had been our for a few years, and they caught guff for not having the compatibility.
the 7600? 5200? was too late.
as for gamers changing, i don't think so. backwards compatibility is most importand during the introduction of the console, as i know i played a good deal of chrono cross and FFIX on my ps2, both excellent ps1 games.
PSOne compatibility is emulated, by the processor that handles alot of the PS2 I/O. The trick will be emulating the PS2 graphics hardware, though given a couple years it might not be that hard.
obviously, they will design a totally new system from scratch, as they did with the ps2, this isn't the same as the x86 legacy. (thank god)
did you read the FAQ? these users have no other choice, its 206Kbps or a 26Kbps modem.
Also, they plan on raising the bandwidth throttle after they have a better idea what their usage is/will be.

and various in-dash car units, and after comparing the two, i would recommend a handheld cd-mp3 player.
why? they new models are fast, light, and last upwards of 15 hours on batteries (my rio even spins down the CD while playing to save juice).
CDrs are cheap, and on the average outing 650-700MB of music will last you, even if its encoded at --alt-preset extreme!

Lack of planning on your part does not, nor will it ever, constitute an emergency on my part.
arse.
also: i develop more than i administrate, but i find your attitude ugly.

while they don't look as pretty as DVD , VCDs don't degrade like VHS tapes. I thought thinkgeek had a VCD recorder awhile back...
If you walk in to any major chain store and ask where they kept all the music that didn't suck they'd probably look at you the same way.
no.

no, the ps2 does not have a ps1 chip, it is modified.
As I understand it, the original psx was a multi-chip machine anyway, this one chip can handle all of what the old psx did.
your post makes complete sense.... except that the DC beat the PS2 out of the gate by what, a year?
and the PS2 soundly beat the tar out of it.
