It's not even rubble anymore. It took them a day to bulldoze it, and another two to cart the trash (i.e. the entire house). If you've ever seen one of these sad, fibreglass visions of the future, you will thank the powers that be they never caught on. I think the guy made a few bucks touting them to the tourists as something to see but, couldn't have been much.

Seems like some Microsoft managers need a prade of potential cadidates to be considered at the same time before they decide on anything else. So frustrating..

I'm in the Portland OR area and whenever Intel opens a position I will get calls from multiple recruiters within a couple of hours. (The record is 13 in 6 hours for the same position.) I blame Intel for this as they use so many recruiters and don't seem to have any internal recruiters. On top of that, if even one of these bloody recruiters submits me (with or without my permission), no one else can. I'm supposed to keep track of the job numbers so I can tell the recruiter I've been submitted to the 'Java Programmer-1192838' position but not the 'Java Programmer-48838299' position. Doh! Don't care why, just want it to stop. Had to disable all my online resumes at more sites than I can remember.

A person who would break into an occupied house is taking a risk. This burglar knows people have guns. I assume he is aware that to maintain his freedom, he may have to fight the occupant. Violence is inherent in the act of breaking and entering.

Robbing a house is no different from robbing a bank. If you rob believing that everyone would rather give up their property than hurt someone over material goods, you're in the wrong business. I won't risk my family on the assumption that a burglar is working within a code of ethics.

That's an easy one. I am a programmer, and one thing I've learned; while engineers need to create terms to describe new concepts, they should be watched closely. All too often they create bizzarre strings of terms just to make a silly acronym. Worse, they keep inventing new terms so they can claim to have invented a new idea when the idea should come before the name.

I'm over 40, have only 5 years as a coder, and after a long search, I found a good job at a reasonable salary. While it may seem obvious to say 'no one will pay for software when you can get it for free', it's simply not true. Most coders don't make, and never have made, shrinkwrap apps. The jobs lost in this area are negligable compared to what happens when the companies clamor for more IT people based on a ridiculously overhyped economy propped up by VC's looking to make the fast buck before the balloon pops. Even if you weren't paying attention, it was obvious that most of the tech companies would fall down, go boom. Anyway, old apps are getting upgraded, and new ones are on the horizon.

As an Old Coder myself, I can say I've no desire to become a manager. I like mentoring, though. I don't need to worry about it for a few years as I've only been coding for 5 years and can pass for 30 something (30? Old? Yeesh, grow up already). Perhaps I'll reach a threshold and want the different responsibility, but not now. When I decided to get out of construction, it never occurred to me that I would be considered old, yet there it is.
I had a long search for a permanent position in the last year. While some do not want older coders, even short time coders like me, for they are not as easy to BS and push into ridiculous hours, these are mostly younger MBA's looking for an 'edge'. I don't know what this means, it's just my experience.
