We have a P3 here that works as a headless file server, it is 900 Mhz with 256MB RAM and contains the "big" hard drive. It also serves as a testing bed for website scripts.
The thing was built out of parts from the "leaning tower of upgrades". We control it via Virtualmin/Webmin.
It ran fine with Debian Etch, went to Lenny last weekend and it still runs great.
My personal machines are P4, a Gateway laptop and a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop, and Ubuntu 8.04 likes them a lot.
Old machines work, very well in fact. They do everything now that they did then, and then they were just fine.
And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedest on to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it." Amen.
New UPS batteries and redundant backup generators sounds like the way to go. Even if your UPS only gives you 2 minutes, that should be enough time to fire up a generator.
I was going to post something along the lines of "Oh noes, EPIC FAIL, Intel gfx means I can't run Lucid Lynx!!!11"
Then I realized that, not having RTFA, it would be safer to post this disclaimed version of the same complaint in case it shipped with Ubuntu or something, so as not to look stupid.

C vs C++?
Just do a find-and-replace, d00d!!!@
With a hex editor!!1
You should check out the Ubuntu Studio theme, it is decent.
Only problem I had with it was the list colors in Filezilla were so light as to be almost unreadable. Fortunately, skins can be customized.

Oh wow.
I am tempted to fill out the form and send it in, for kicks.
Hmmm... who do I dislike enough to register them as a subversive?
Say to yourself, 10 times, really fast:
Alpha
Kenny
Body
It will change your whole outlook.
Yes it is.
Just unplug the fucking thing.
Totally secure, totally simple.
Regardless... I am in love.
Seriously.
This machine specs out like a lady at my parents' house, and a slut in the bedroom.
WRONG!
You should totally just go ahead and "Express Install(tm)" every patch or security fix or "feature" that MS wants to install on your machine.
Research. Blah. Research is for wimps.
Real men just click "Next".
IMO Canonical really lost it after 8.04
The newer distros are bug-riddled and klunky.
Hopefully 10.04.1 will be an actual step forward, instead of a big steaming pile of feature bloat.
Same here, except it was chemistry class.
I remember all the jokes that came afterward, too.
All about ashtrays and blue eyes.
I would like to offer my services as a freelance editor.
Wow.
Cockney slang is weird.
Not sure if it is a "good weird" or a "bad weird".
Chaotic neutral FTW. No retreat, no surrender, ethics not morals.
That was about the only alignment I ever played.
Sometimes neutral good for a ranger.
Of course that was first edition.
Uh... Netmeeting?
*ducks*
Wow, I am hung like a half-orc.
Solution:
Buy used DRM game.
Download same game via torrent and burn 2 "backup copies".
Install game.
Play game.
Which is why I use Joomla.

Did it work?
You had me at "vodka".
Sounds like they need to let it rest until the season is more favorable.
Let me have a go at it...
"The only pr0n the Mormons download is kiddie pr0n."
Thanks folks, I'll be here all week. Be sure to tip your waitress.
Slashdot's search app isn't called Sphinx, it is named Sphincter.
For less than $10 you can get a domain from Domainsite.com for 1 year.
Then you can set it up on Google Apps with a catchall and use whatever username you like in the email address.
