  1. Year of the sell out on OpenSolaris 2008.11 – Year of the Laptop? · · Score: 4, Insightful

I am interested to see more stories that are not advertising or shout outs develop on laptops reading slashdot. Down with the "Check out my favorite thing" posts.

  2. Jail: "Just A Series of Bars" on Ted "A Series of Tubes" Stevens Found Guilty · · Score: 5, Funny

I can forsee the senator saying that his jailtime will be much like living normal life, but behind a series of bars connected together. I look forward to his jailing, so I can enjoy more humorous remarks about the particular "Series of Bars" he is behind at any given time.

  3. Markup not included on Sub-$100 Laptops Have Finally Arrived · · Score: 1

Did anyone here consider the fact that the $98 dollar price point is the wholesale price?

You will not be buying it for $98, the distrubutor you buy it from will be paying $98 dollars for it, and selling it to you at a markup.

Just that this appears to be footage of a commonplace wholesaler trade show.

  4. Copy Protection Proposed... on RIAA Exec Moves Over To Gaming Industry · · Score: 1

If I am to understand his track record this will be high on his list

Now all Video Game discs will have a special magnesium and thermite backing. Should you read the entire disc in one sitting, the disc will ignite and destroy your gaming device. This will prevent all disc copying. It will also increase read error rates 50%, but we all brought it on ourselves.

Also all game systems and games will not be playable if not equipped with phone home technology. Existing games which are re-released as Game of the Year are to be retrofitted. Owners of games and game systems without internet access may purchase from the ESA, a phone home device utilizing Satellite technology for 1999.99 plus a $29.99 a month service fee.

Last but not least, all "obsolete" games without the built in protection will be illegal without a accompanying receipt. Punishable by fines from 100,000 to 1 Million per incident. I mean if you posses a game and do not have a receipt you must have stole it to copy and distrubute, right?

  5. New list of banned items on "War On Terror" Board Game Confiscated In UK · · Score: 2, Insightful

--Clothing dye (See above, you could conceal the identity of a garment)
--Sharpies and other markers (These could be used to conceal previously written statements)

--And as always, remember to firmly affix your ID barcode to your forehead before leaving home.

  6. Spore Movie? What about SimCity? on New Spore Details, Possible Movie Deal · · Score: 1

  7. Create more deserts? on A Hidden Loop In the Carbon Cycle Discovered · · Score: 1

So if I am reading this right, we could reduce global warming by creating more deserts around the world?
Now that just doesn't sound right at all.

  8. "We've Changed this Game" on Students Learn To Write Viruses · · Score: 4, Insightful

In response to AV vendors reply "We've changed the game, and viruses have changed in recent years because of the protection we're putting into place,"
Normally if something is going to succeed, it evolves to overcome natural or manmade barriers to its existence.
In a way, the fact that the malware and viruses evolve within days of AV updates says that the AV companies are nothing but an annoyance to the writers of the malware.

  9. Big Props to the Designer on Diablo III Designer Defends New Look and Feel · · Score: 4, Insightful

I'm going to have to go ahead and say regardless of anyones personal preference we have to give a lot of credit to the designer for taking the time to comment on their choices. Personally the only user created design change I like better is the last one...wow gayness.

  10. Murder suicide? on Spam King and Family Dead In Murder-Suicide · · Score: 1

I feel the case very well could have been someone tracking him down and trying to set a example for spammers worldwide by going after the family as well. I imagine even murderers and terrorists are peeved about getting spam, and they have the means to take justice into their own hands.

I for one would rather see our tax dollars spent on more worthwhile ventures than to support the furthering of the nanny state agenda. This is just another in a long line of tax dollar wastes.

I hear they are currently working hard to eliminate vowels from the vocabulary also on the grounds that they are found in numerous vulgar words and if the kids cannot use vowels it will severely limit their ability to cuss. Let's hope they do not convince Webster to remove the vowels.

I find if I have my AGEIA PhysX and my Creative Sound Blaster Ultimate Wallet Drainer 3000 hooked up and dual SLI that Rick Astleys right arm swings a little more violently while he dances. That is exactly the kind of experience I paid over $1000 in add on equipment for. And man can you beat the "Concert Hall" DSP for that one? Just joking...I have none of the above.

    How this would work
    ..1....2......3.......4......5 (Captcha image)
    Cat Cat Money Cat "Peaches"
Drop down choices (Housewive, Gutter, Salsa, Fruit, Cat)
    Answer: 1-(Image3-Money) 2-(Peaches) 3-(Cat)
Of course this would only be reasonable for something one time only like signing up for gmail.

  25. Apple Computer VS Local Orchard on Apple, New York City In Legal Dispute Over Logo · · Score: 1

I guess you all forgot about the landmark case in the 90's. When Jobs first got back on at apple he proceded to sue Sunny Valley Apple Orchard in Cupertino's suburbs. There's even a video of the court procedings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0 [youtube.com] I am not shocked in the least to see this from them, given their past behaviour. Towards the end of the video the orchard owner is asking "But what shall I call my fruit" to which Jobs said he could care less, just don't call them apples. That is how the grape flavored apples got started http://www.grapplefruits.com/ [grapplefruits.com]
