  3. Food for thought on Time To Discuss Drug Prohibition? · · Score: 1

I've always thought if certain drugs were legalized it would put a lot of criminal organizations out of business. Especially marijuana. Lots of wasted tax money processing marijuana abusers, holding them in jail, etc. I'm not sure about other drugs such as cocaine, herion, and meth. At some point we have to consider if legalizing addictive substances will hurt the common welfare. Amsterdam recently announced a cut back on marijuana cafes and prostitutes due to increased rate of crime within the red light district. I guess it's like Ron Paul said, people want to get high. We can't stop them, but we can certainly regulate it. For exmaple, if marijuana were legalized you can regulate laced substances and THC content restrictions, etc. Anyways, just wanted to share my thoughts =)

It can also be argued that DNA is nothing more than a program designed to preserve itself. Life has become more complex in the overwhelming sea of information and life, when organized into species, relies upon genes to be its memory system, so man is an individual only because of his intangible memoryâ¦and yet memory cannot be defined, but it defines mankind. The advent of computers and the subsequent accumulation of incalculable data has given rise to a new system of memory and thought parallel to your own. Humanity has underestimated to the consequences of computerization⦠And can you offer me proof of your existence? How can you, when neither modern science nor philosophy can explain what life is. 13. Google not serious about browser on Internet Explorer 8 Delayed Until 2009 · · Score: 5, Interesting

I suspect that google is not serious about chrome. Specifically, google does not see chrome as a long term product. They are simply chomping at microsoft's market share by introducing another browser into the market. The more browsers that are in the market, the more important standards become (ie's biggest weakness) and the less market share ie will have. If google really wanted to see their browser as a top dog, they would cut their 85 million dollar annual firefox donation. They are not playing to win, they are playing to have MS lose. Futhermore, if IE starts to decline, live services and ms advertising will also decline proportionally. In the end, google can care less about it's chrome, its just a UI slapped onto webkit anyways. The true agenda is to get people to question their browser and try different ones. With lower IE market share, they will see bigger ad revenues. That's more money to invent random stuff with hehe. If microsoft can keep up, then they win again, by creating a better standards complaint expirience. Standards are the opposite of vendor lock-ins ;). Oh google, you must be bored.

  14. Dont Get it on Google Chrome OEM Strategy To Take On IE · · Score: 3, Interesting

Big suprise. Lawyer wants more laws. I don't think this would happen under obama's watch who has clearly stated the preservation of an "open" internet and "net neutrality". Furthermore, he regularly seeks counsel from the EFF. See obama state his tech policy on this page. I understand that saying and doing are two complete different things. The article; however, is speculation and ignores the president's stated policy. I'm sure the EFF would have commented on this if they thought it was a concern. They havn't and I doubt they missed obama's speculated appointment.

Government should make use of sandboxes mandatory for all computing. Furthermore, I wonder if the millitary could get intel or amd to manufacture their processors with customized instruction sets? Seems like the most secure way to go. Then create a linux os on top of that with the new instruction set and customize gcc or something. That way all applications would need to be compiled for the "millitary" only processor. Just an idea :). Millitary stuff wouldnt run correctly on non millitary processors and viceversa.

My analogy did not make a legal reference. It was an emotional analogy that suggested how an onlooker may feel when an obviously corrupt business practice/owner gets taken down. If a judge smacked the RIAA down and gave it a huge fine for all its actions, how many people would truly feel sorry for the organization? My point was from a strictly emoitonal perspective. Next time, I'll use a car analogy.

Since I keep getting modded down, I feel compelled to provide userful information. I apologize for the way I stated my first comment, but the RIAA is the guardian of an industry so antiquated and oppressive that having sympathy for these guys is a little like feeling sorry for a Georgia slaveholder after watching Sherman's troops fire his mansion and scatter his livestock. Here's an industry so bloated with executives and middlemen, all of them greedily slurping up profit, that the people who actually write the songs and play the music -- the "talent" -- are getting royally screwed in the royalty department. It's been like that for years. Anyways, harvard has the court documents posted here for all to see.
