One good friend of mine started out volunteering in a politician's office 1 day a week, they just kept asking him to come in more and more, then started paying him, and now he's worked in the offices of and alongside some of Australia's top politicians. He's run for office (getting a phone call of support from our nation's 2nd highest politician), and he's now quite busy at state and federal levels of politics, all from a 1 day a week volunteer position. Another person in one of my Uni classes went from an internship to a full-time job in 6 months in a very good tech job. A short-time internship can be a great thing, or it can be a drudge, depending on what you put into it, whether it's right for you, and what the company offers you past make-work.
If it all comes together, you may well end up with a really good job doing something you enjoy, if not, learn from that and move on. An internship is like going on a few dates, it's how you figure out who you are, what you want, and what you're good at.
Perhaps the sentiment could better have been expressed as "this behaviour isn't isolated to IT workers, but it's easier to mess networks up remotely if you're good with IT, and getting physical access is probably harder"
"The real question is: what is going to get people off their butts so that they make the changes in their lives that keep our health care spending in check."
This is Slashdot, you really thing we're here to ask/answer hard questions?? We're not Engineers, Scientists, Policy Wonks, Programmers, or smart people! Wait...
Maybe hookers take a lot of Your money, but that doesn't mean that the average street-walker makes a bundle. Of course, there are classes of prostitute, just like there are classes of coder.
And if he's Really not shutting up, just hit him a few extra times to make sure he gets the message. We've seen quite a few cases where people had significant injuries, but it wasn't from one jolt, it was from several.
So, is it possible that America will actually be the first nation to fall from First World status to Developing Nation Status? It's kind of between First World and Third World afaik.
To have wireless to the home, you'd need a tower at the end of every street, because the spectrum just gets too crowded when Everyone logs in. Current Wireless doesn't scale to replace landlines in a medium to high-density residential area. Plus, it's not as secure. And wireless standards keep getting upgraded, requiring new hardware. Fibre probably won't need replacing for 50-100 years.
Excellent analogy, perhaps with a correlation. The better the poacher, the better the warden (one would imagine). A hacker who is actually able to pull off very complicated hacks probably has either immense talent or has a methodology.
it was never a simple invisibility charm, when I read The Hobbit it was quite clear that Gandalf orchestrated the entire trip so that Bilbo would encounter Smeagle and the ring, and ideally end up with the ring, allowing Gandalf to affect it's destiny. What other reason was there for the entire trip? Dragon horde? What does Gandalf want with dragon gold?
I think you owe it to yourself to at least give it a try. It's a cracker of a film, with varied pacing, intriguing what-if scenarios, beguilingly flawed characters, and some really strange and cool tech.
I disagree slightly on one point. District 9 was shot to look somewhat like a company documentary, so they may not have had to put as much effort into the special effects, it was supposed to look dirty and real.
Watchmen needed to be stylised, with comic-book size (city block/entire city) effects.
Having said that, it isn't necessary for All comic-book adaptions to be on that grand scale, but Watchmen probably did.
As one of the Parents stated, it's obvious that Beck is playing a persona, just when/before he started at Fox news, he referred to himself as a rodeo clown and said not to pay much attention to himself. Limbaugh has railed against pillpoppers, when he himself had to go into a drug clinic to treat his own addictions. What about Maddow? afaik, she's been pretty consistent with her positions, she doesn't rail wildly like the other two do. she's quite harsh and strong at times, but I don't see any of the overblown hyperbole like the other two mentioned. Now if you'd said Olbermann, I might have agreed with you.

Easy. Check out how hot the person is before you hack/steal their devices to see if there's any self-made amateur porn on it.

So Al Quida itself saying to OBL is dead isn't good enough for you? If Apple said that Steve Jobs was dead, would you demand photos?
No, just Really Really Super (he thanks you for asking)
Maybe the project lead is pissed that Branson is bogarting all the hot chicks for his airline (and his casting couch?)
No nation, Democratic or otherwise, has hands clean of blood (including mine, Australia).

Yahoo pulls out of Italy, another search engine moves in, buys up some political clout and gets immunity.

it's funny because it's painfully true
it is intriguing about the wait, perhaps they didn't care much until now for some reason? very interesting information you've contributed though

This! The sound of all the Whooshing is making my hair stand on end!

in the balls nothing, what happened to "I'm going to rip off your head and shit down your neck"???

Creepers I can deal with, it's those damn skeletons with their ranged bow attacks that cause me problems
It's funny because none of us Windows people really care about Ballmer, except aboput when he's going to leave.
