For Christ's sake, why the fuck are the fat media whores so intent on sticking it to every single man, women and child? American's are already the most debt-ridden culture in the world -- now Disney (& others) are lobbying OUR OWN GOVERNMENT to fuck over the very consumers who support them. Wake up and smell the irony! For fuck's sake this is getting out of control.
Ha, you act like this is a bad thing. Sure beats going through twelve installation screens and waiting for even more.dll's to be installed, none of which you will ever be able to remove from your machine without needing to reinstall Windows. Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac tech support.
Okay, the whole 'i'Products drive me nuts, and the original iMac was a POS, but you can't argue that they make a technically inferior product anymore. Most PC users still oogle over TiBooks.
It looks like the Hubble is giving the pharse "cold boot" a whole new meaning. I really hope that all goes well on this mission. The photos from Hubble are absolutely spectacular.
The best managers don't take the "by the book" route when solving problems. Innovation is at the core of the tech industry, and management is no different than engineering when it comes to cutting-edge methods for solving problems.
Geeks (sys admins, code warriors, techs, me, etc) are the hardest group of people to deal with in a corporation because we're SMARTER than everyone else. Yeah, lots of things seem obvious to you and me, but others struggle to grasp the problem itself, let alone provide some direction towards a solution. We all know the Alpha Geek type: amazing system/networking/coding skills, but is a lousy manager. Then there's the classic manager: sales/marketing/prod dev/factory management experience, but has never worked with people who are capable of working without supervision. This is the dichotomy that we all live with.
At first I thought it was a generation gap, but soon I began to realize that I had more in common with 50 year-old programmers (I'm 24) than many of the "drones" who were about my age. In short, a good tech manager knows what his/her people are capable of and lets them get the job done with minimal supervision. On occasion they offer advice towards producing a solution, but in general they provide support when the shit goes down. The idea manager doesn't route flack from upper mgt down, he/she takes it and turns to their team for a solution.
If you're going to drop 5 grand into a terrabyte RAID array, why the hell don't you spen an extra $80 and get a second drive to use as a mirror for your OS volume? I mean, duh! C'mon people...
Actually, next time you're in an airport and your flight in canceled remember that you could be online looking for the next flight out of there on ANY airline...
And the best part is, they (co. that canceled said flight) has to buy you the ticket!
Actually, it looks like M$ is trying to avoid the legal battle that is going down over "fair use" when it comes to recording (and ultimately editing) live TV. Given their track-record in lawsuits, this is surprising.
I thought about that after writing my initial post, but decided that E1 was a little bit of everything. They had CG and real characters in both completely real and completely CG environments. E1 was unique in that respect.
I was thinking of real people in a CG environment with CG characters. Kind of an optimal medium in many respects.
they never mentioned "Final Fantasy" when talking about big-time CGI films. Maybe I'm just a geek, but I thought the CG landscapes (and the whole film) were amazing. Certainly much more realistic than Shrek's cartoonish CG scapes.
I still live action actors, so maybe a combination (Roger Rabbit, Cool World, etc.) of CG and live action is on the horizon.
Here's a new poll for your marketing research. Would you pay for/. if...
-/. had more original news pieces
- Jon Katz wrote something worth reading
- Paying members could turn off all ThinkGeek ads (et. all)
- The moderators were fair [troll]
- Paying users could turn OFF the Cowboyneil option in polls
Is it my imagination, or has/. become the office link to all things Salon? Pretty redundant for those of us who read Salon on a regular basis to see all of their stories posted here too.
See you space cowboy.
Well, you and the spammers both seem to have one thing in common... wasting bandwidth.
Die spamers!

Geeks love LEGOs.
I pitty the fool!
For those who are interested, this is the place to go. Every 'community' like /. stated as one or two guys with an idea...
In other words, the site is kinda small right now.
It helps if you, like, smoke a lot of weed.
And the best part is, they (co. that canceled said flight) has to buy you the ticket!
Know your rights
Sucka!

Got troll?
If this is accurate, than somebody mod it up. Well explained. Sounds like /.ers will be downloading Netscape soon.

I'm not sure where it is on IRC. Anyone?
- /. had more original news pieces
- Jon Katz wrote something worth reading

IRC is still alive and well.
