Well, thanks for the warning. Highly unlikely, but if I'm ever in a position to do business w/ Charter Communications, now that I know they couldn't give a flying fuck about security, I'll be sure to stay the hell away.
This isn't new. It's how we're taking care of bidness in Bosnia, Columbia, etc. Alot of what we do there is illegal, so we give it to military contractors who aren't hampered by regulations or silly "sanctity of life" nonsense.
It ends up costing far less than what ethics-bound men in uniform would cost.
When those guys made the Rockbox for Archos Jukebox 6k, I was modded up for lambasting the poor quality of their software... And for good reason, v0.1 sucked cock, they shouldn't have released it in such a sorry state... BUT! You might want to go back and check it out again, it kicks serious butt.
If Archos dropped the Rockbox guys a copy of their new hardware, Archos wouldn't have to invest in a software dept... ^^;;
Anyone remember that episode of Andromeda where some evil dictator acquires weapons of mass destruction that can take out entire stars? Maybe that's what's going on there, they're just testing & stuff...
Am I the only one who read the story and immediately thought, "You know, next time they release a worm, they'll just make it check for updates from freenet or kazaa or something..."?
P.S. For the regexp challenged, the parent poster was showing how easy it would be to use a rexular expression search engine to harvest e-mail addresses which the Bad Guy could then send spam to.
I would imagine that this is proof that such a search engine already exists...
This would work out great for this chica... although she already seems to have a handle on technology so far, according to all the people trying to track her down.
If you're interested in Network Theory, there's a book called "Linked: the New Science of Networks" that covers six degrees of separation and a ton of other stuff too. It's very readable...
Every person who posted an angry reply to this story but who doesn't call up their congressman to voice opposition to Patriot II and similar legislation is as culpable for our oppressive government as Ashcroft is.
I sent an email to my TCP/IP professor asking if he could explain this RFC to us in class because I couldn't understand it, and he wrote back saying I just earned an F. ^^;;
I don't want to be a nagging bitch or anything, but I'm going to sound like one anyway.
And I'm going to add the disclaimer that Stargate SG-1 is my 'entertainment' (pretty broad classification right there) of all time, so thank you Allah for Kazaa.
My TV broke about a week ago; I have never been more productive. You're not gonna believe this, but I actually went to the fucking library and got a book and I read it! It's fucking awesome!
Last night I went out and got pasted with my friends. I wasn't thinking "damn, I missed Smackdown. damn, I missed the Daily Show. damn, I missed Adult Swim." I was thinking "mmmmmm, Bacardi Silver O3..."
Please, after the Farscape finale, just try putting the TV away for a week. You can bring it back out if you don't think a TV-less lifestyle is for you, but please, just try it. I can't even replace my TV because I don't have a job... but when I finally do get a job, I'm gonna skip buying a new one, because it's no longer needed.
Book in question is "Linked: the New Science of Networks" in case anyone was curious...

Look for "Highway of Death" or "Basra Kuwait Gulf War", you'll find plenty of stuff.
What you won't find is anyone claiming that the people being fired on were firing back or even capable of firing back.
Not only that, no calculators allowed until you are in university. Every time someone tries to change it, the luddites start screaming that use of calculators harms the students' powers of mental arithmetic and so on.
Quick question, which country is having all its jobs sucked out by which country? Quick hint: I'm in the country that's losing the jobs.
Using a dual celeron 466, a Matrox G550, and an Audigy Gamer, I can run Age of Mythology and Warcraft III. So in my silly mind, I'm ok for gaming. It's not Quake, but it's still gaming.
You know how I know these guys are keeping it real? Look at the author's video card: Matrox G550! (my card, w00t!) Reason he won't get a new card? He has no cash! No one's paying him to do reviews! He has no conflict of interest!
And that's why I might be inclined to take this seriously, if I could actually afford hardware made after 1999:(
There's this girl I like. I call her 'Pichu'. Whenever I'm programming, I have a tendency to name all my variables some variation of Pichu such as 'PichuPichu' or 'ilovepichu'. When someone looks at my code and asks me what this or that code means, I generally furrow my brow after five minutes of concentration and say, "I have no fucking clue."
Lesson? Don't give a bunch of unrelated shit the same goddamned name.

If they didn't have user strings, how did you know they were from MS?

Dear SCO,
I would like some of what you are smoking. Please hook a brother up. Thanks in advance.

DataScope uses WinNT embedded. There's another company I interviewed that uses Visual Basic to write the front ends to their equipment.
Don't look surprised, shit just happens.

That's a relief, now I don't have to buy Windows Server 2003.

I'm not saying, I'm just saying, ya know?
My Massively Multiplayer Hangman game isn't making any money so clearly I need government intervention to turn a profit.
I have dropped this thing at least a dozen times and it's been soaked in the rain a couple times... Still no problems!
