The only way of detecting it was a scam was that crypto was involved.

The whole thing was based on the most basic model of scams; "send us some money first and we'll send you even more in return!"

Nobody should ever fall for that type of scam, but some people do because they're blinded by their own greed and they overlook clues that should be painfully obvious.

Sure, we could go to three next, like the competition. That seems like the logical thing to do. .After all, one worked out pretty well and the competition went to two. Three is the next number after two. So let's play it safe. Why innovate when we can follow? Oh, I know why: Because we're a business, that's why!

DDT was only banned for agricultural use. It is still available for use in mosquito control in countries that need it.

The problem is that overuse of DDT allowed mosquitoes to develop a strong resistance to it. Here's a nice study on that topic, but since you won't bother reading it I will quote "We conducted standard insecticide susceptibility testing across western Kenya and found that the Anopheles gambiae mosquito has acquired high resistance to pyrethroids and DDT"

Put simply, DDT doesn't work well for controlling malaria carrying mosquitoes anymore, and that was not caused by media induced panics about DDT. If anything, the media exposure that lead to banning DDT for all other uses probably prolonged it's usefulness for controlling mosquitoes.

  20. ChromeOS isn't Android. It can run a virtualized version of Android to let you run Android apps, but the underlying OS isn't compatible with Android (a fact that became apparent when Google tried to implement native support for Android apps and failed).

Nobody actually bought into Google+ and nobody cares that it's going away.

The accounts that were created were the ones Google forced people to create to sign up for YouTube and other services that they actually did want and people dind't use them. Even Google admitted that 90% of all recent logins to Google+ last less than 5 seconds. At best, those are people who clicked the wrong icon in the Google menu, but it's more likely that it's just a bunch of bots.

Google hasn't forced anyone to buy Chromebooks to use YouTube, on the other hand, so the people who bought them did so willingly. They've sold surprisingly well despite the fact that you can buy a cheap laptop that does more for the same price. It's a profitable product line for Google they like their profits. They'll keep making them as long as people keep buying them in sufficient volume to keep the profits going.
