and have a legion of Space Marines from the Iron Hand, with a leader called Ferrous Manus? What's next, is the leader of the first company called bigus dickus?
that worked like that. It wasn't fun at all, because the game wasn't about being a skilled racer, it was about playing the meta-game. If you drove as hard as you could, the game would make the computer racers so fast they were unbeatable. The only way to win, was to to time it so that you crossed the finish line WHILE the computer was ramping up its difficulty, if you went full throttle too soon, then the computer would reach unbeatable difficulty, retake the lead, and that was it. If you waited too long, you couldn't catch up.
Oblivion also had dynamic dificulty, that could easily be abused.
Some people romanticize the idle rich of the 1800s, who did nothing but travel around with an army of servants to carry their steamer trunks around, that were filled with clothes that they'd use to dress up and go to dinner parties. And the Titanic was the newest fanciest liner when it was built, and it had societies elite on board. Think of a disaster on a similar scale striking the Oscars, and how that would be covered in the news.
ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping costs, sales tax on the initial purchase of the PS3...
unless the seller is (over)charging $100 for shipping, they could have lost money on this sale.
Compared to the Wii, which is still going for $400+ It's still worth a professional ebay sellers time to snatch them up as soon as they go on sale, and flip them on ebay.
If they sell them now, an employee is going to have to spend his time keeping tabs on the Wii situation, for phone inqueries, people walking in the door, people camping out etc..
if they wait untill friday, they can just say NO, untill then.
And murphys law says that a customer will call on the phone from the other side of the mall, finds out that one Wii is in stock, and while the clerk on the phone has his back turned, clerk2 sells the Wii to a customer in the store. Customer one will come running in, and flip out, when their Wii isn't availible, and clerk 1 didn't even have time to ask clerk2 what happened to the last Wii.
in your posts you mention that it costs too much as a buyer, to buy things seperately. That means, that the seller is taking more of your money.
There are quite a few people who make a living buying lots, breaking them up, and flipping them on ebay. It's similar to buying a brand new car, vs. paying $200 for a washer fluid bottle, $80 for a badge, $50 for the mounting bracket for the badge, etc.. when the car is in an accident, and needs to be repaired.
Excessive shipping isn't just to decieve the buyer

it's because ebays fee structure, charges a percentage of the closing price, not the total bill (including shipping).
so if you sold an item for $100 with $5 shipping, ebay would bill you for their share of $100.
If you sold the same item for $1 with $104 shipping, ebay would bill you for their share of $1.
Buying electronics on ebay is more trouble than it's worth, because of this. The margins in that category are so slim, that the only people who can make any money, are the ones who have excessive shipping.
self checkout doesn't work well, because the system checks to see if you honest by weighing what's in your bag. Washers are so light, that it often doesn't recognize that they're there. So you have to see that it didn't work; read the screen to find out what happened, read the screen to see what to do...rescan, or pick the bag up and put it down on the pad again, read the screen to see if that worked,
wash rinse repeat
I don't buy washers from home depot, but I do buy a packet or two of screws, and this happens all the time.
I think that the cruise ship market would be perfect for this invention. As is, there's always a huge going away party on a cruise ship, after leaving port..and watching the sails go up, would just add to the atmosphere of going away to sea (regardless of how effective the sail actually was)
from the sound of it, it's only designed to be used when the ship is heading downwind, I can't imagine a 1000' long tanker trying to tack into the wind.
you can't use paypal to buy porn either. (it's part of their user agreement, there's an article online somewhere that claims, that this was a compromise with the govt. If paypal couldn't be used for 'morally offensive purposes' then the govt. wouldn't come down on paypal acting similar to a bank, but not following all the laws banks have to follow )
and last year, during the Xbox360 shortage, and people were postings 360 scams on ebay, left and right. Paypal was freezing first, asking questions later, for people selling 360s. Unfortunatly, the general public probably approves of this, judging by the number of people who paid $600 for an Xbox that never arrived, and were demanding more oversight from ebay.
since the post office says it was delivered, you're not going to get your money back from the post office. They'll just say that you're trying to defraud them. They consider insurance, another source of revenue, and boast about how low their payout rates are.
And media mail, 1st class, parcel post, and priority mail don't have built in delivery confirmation, it's an extra service ($.60 for buying it in store, or $.15 buying it online) Signature confirmation is an extra service also, and it costs something like $2 or $3. Signature confirmation is also required for anything over $250, or the seller automatically loses any dispute.
Reporting an item not recieved, to Paypal , is just the first step. There's a claims process you can go through, on ebay itself. (they refund purchase price -$25), you can also call up your credit card company, and dispute the transaction.
And from personal experience, I've won every dispute I've filed as a buyer, and lost every dispute filed against me as a seller, (including one where the buyer filed a complaint while the item was in transit, needless to say, he did not refuse delivery, and got the item and his money back)
I'm just repeating a comment that I heard here, but I think Homeworld has the potential to be turned into an awsome movie.
If you don't know, it's a space combat sim, but it has a very interesting backstory, about a civilization without a past, that is set up in the manual, and more is revealed throughout the game.
it's not a %9 increase based of the auction ending price in the US, it's a %9 increase of their current percentage. %2.75 to %3 in this case. Ebay has 3 levels of pricing, %5.something percent for the first $24, %3 for the next 25-999 of value, and around %2 for anything over $1000. The people who make a living bulk importing brand new things from China and re-selling them on ebay are NOT going to be happy about this.
And you can always set your searches to be US only.
the only person I know who regularly buys legos, is a girl, who's obsessed with Harry Potter. Even though she's 30, she still buys every single Harry Potter branded lego set. Before you reply to this..ask yourself how many hundreds of dollars you've spent on Legos in the past few months.
I'm only interested if the PvP component involves throwing the other engineers into said turbine.

oops, I died in Halo..time for more beer
oh look, I stuck a grenade to my teammate, and we both died...since the respawn time for suicides is extra long, I might as well finish off this beer.

I know it's a cliche, but before this article, I didn't know that there was another ferry that went across lake Michigan besides the Badger.

you need modelers, texture artists, riggers, animators, etc... to build a convincing character
90 days for a complaint someone files through their credit card company

when is DOAX2 going to be released?
he found a better deal the next day, or
it was a dummy account for a competitor, who was trying to tie up everyone elses 360 auctions, so they could sell their own, with less competition
