For many courses and standardized tests, only a few kinds of graphing calculators are allowed to be used. By allowing outside code to run on their calculators, TI risks losing their place on this list (and thus, sales) since those that administer these courses/tests might find out that TI's calculators allow outside programs to run that allow problems to be solved more easily.

  5. Then write about something else! on Dvorak Looks Back At 'Another Crappy Tech Year' · · Score: 1

Every article Dvorak writes is complaining about the tech industry, or some subset thereof. Why does he even bother with the tech industry, then? He seems miserable with the entire subject, so why doesn't he just find something else to do? I know the answer; he keeps doing it because of the money, plus the fact that his "popularity" (I use the term loosely) is due to his negative attitude. He doesn't really hate the industry, but is paid to.

What I don't understand is why people can't figure this out and stop giving him exposure. It's the same situation with that other guy that I refuse to name, you know, the anti-video game industry guy. The attention they receive only encourages them to do it again, and again, ad nauseam.

Please don't tell me that the attention he receives from article such as this on sites like /. does not matter because he writes for a magazine. PC Magazine hasn't been relevant for years. If you stop paying attention to them, trolls will go away.

  8. 3D Home Architect.... on Architecture / Home Design Software? · · Score: 2, Informative

I've tried Broderbund's 3D Home Architect, and I've found that the design is horrible. I tried making a simple floorplan for an apartment so I could see how/where furniture can fit in, and it was such a headache. The obvious thing a user would do is to draw the lenghts of the walls they measured, and then plug in the furniture. But when I did that, I found I was coming up a few inches short, even though I knew certain things would fit. That's because the damn software would draw the walls with the space between the exterior and exterior wall! WTF?!? There wasn't even an option I could use to turn it off. It was impossible (maybe a feature that wasn't documented in the help file) to draw a simple plan with dimensions that one measured to get a feel for a place.

So in response to your question, I have no idea, but I agree with you in that 3DHA is a nightmare to use.

Hell, I play much, much more of NesterDC on my Dreamcast, than I do the actual Dreamcast games. For instance, Baseball Stars just can't be beaten by any of today's baseball games. Too bad my original NES cart of Baseball Star's battery died and I lost all my old teams... =(

I exchanged it for a new one and have had no problems with it, but am waiting for it to burn out once the warrantee is up...

Casio has been very responsive about this issue and issued a new batch of units which do not have this problem. However, it just makes me wonder, do companies beta test their hardware any more? This sidelight burnt out on the defective batch usually within 14 days, under normal usage. Does this mean that they don't even beta test their products this long?
