Hi,
I use Komodo Edit (like a lot of others here). The toolbox feature is kinda handy too, you can put commonly used commands in the toolbox and just double click them to run on the current script. Currently I've got a python script that automatically ftp's the file I'm working on to a specified directory and one that launches the current script into WinPDB which is quite simply the best debugger I've ever used. http://winpdb.org/
This is possibly being posted too late to be moderated but the back of the British Airways inflight magazines say Mobile phones are not allowed but Bluetooth is. The example they use is a bluetooth mouse being allowed. As with all electronics (on BA) they don't allow you to use during take off and landing
It was the episode where Homer tries to jump the canyon on a skateboard. They successfully manage to get him out to the top of the hill, ambulance drives away.... and he falls out the back bouncing all the way to the bottom. Classic.
Personally I object to things like not being able to mute the sound. You have a "right click" menu with settings. Why isn't "Disable sound" one of them? I don't want a full volume bleep noise every time an advert pops up to tell me it's there. Despite it being requested regularly (do a google search for Flash disable.sound) it still hasn't been included.
It just strikes of product that's had design compromises from a marketing department ("Look at the control you have over the users browser with Flash").
I understand the basics of this but wouldn't it be better done using gravel or bigger stones with more water? Surely having more water will make the effect either last longer or go cooler?
Another vote for Spire (http://www.spireusa.com/). There's a lot of design know how going into these, particularly the way the laptop is suspended (inside a padded bag) in the center of the backpack. Mines had a few drops with an Inspiron in it and it's still going strong.
Nope I've found the same with XP. You also have problems with applications not written for it if you increase the DPI (not able to view all of the screen components as everything is resized etc) and if you want to see the screen components it requires changing the DPI back and rebooting:(. Mozilla is super handy for this problem as you can increse the "Text zoom" accsibility feature to 300% and view everything normally. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to set this as the default and a new tab or new window reverts back to 100% fonts.
Yeah, my Gvim doesn't crash either although it does raise a question - have you got Cygwin installled? I found a lot of the functionality of vi depended on command line tools that were installed with Cygwin. Just a suggestion.
There's been a lot of comments along the lines of "why don't we try and find out what the file is before we download it". Nobodies pointed out that edonkey already does this. It uses hashes of the known files that are placed on sites such as sharereactor to identify the files. The forum even has an area where you can post hashes of fake files.
Does anyone know how the GeForce4Go (the laptop graphics card) is likely to fare in Doom III? I know it's not quite as stripped as the Geforce4MX but it's also not quite as feature rich as the full Geforce4's. Basically I'm thinking about getting a Dell with the Geforce4Go and want to know how well it's likely to run Doom III eventually.
Could this be a good way to avoid a slashdotting? Straight text and it seems to have no problem serving it. Might be an idea for the future if you've no need for images and your posting a story.
I'm working in Switzerland and saw the Xbox advertised for 399CHF today in a shop called X-point (in Zurich). That's about 160 GBP, which I thought was even pretty cheap for a DVD player. Don't know if it's a special offer or an across the board price reduction though.
As to what distributed computing client I use. Personally I use the UD agent for the fight against cancer and as this is really important to me I'd resent (very strongly ) anyone running anything else on my PC. Bastards.

Nope, FoxIt pdf's started "advertising" it's pro version quite heavily in recent versions.
For a fast ad free pdf viewer try Sumatra:

Not to be pedantic but he actually lives across the street.
Hmmm, why is it when somebody wants to do something on here they start with "Not to..."
Thank god I'm not incontinent. :)

The same as the average slashdotter would do to their girlfriend?

Lack of a remote - try ATI's remote Wonder. RF so it even works through walls if you want the PC "quiet".
Hmmm, link seems to be screwed: http://www.signum-data.de/english/index_eng.htm
